CLIENT CASE STUDY #1 FACTORY 3D POINT CLOUD CAPTURE
CLIENT:
Superglass, a glass wool insulation manufacturer in Stirling, Scotland, planned a major facility upgrade to enhance production capacity.Superglass redeveloped its plant, installing a 187tonne furnace, curing ovens, and modernised equipment to double output to 60,000 tonnes annually.
CHALLENGES:
The project required precise surveying of an operational factory without disrupting production. Key challenges included mapping existing structures to assess the impact of new installations.
SOLUTIONS:
Malcolm Hughes used laser scanning and a Trimble S6 Total Station to capture 1,300 internal and external scans. The data was processed into a 3D point cloud and detailed 2D plans, enabling engineers to design structural reinforcements. By providing accurate surveys, Malcolm Hughes supported Superglass’s seamless expansion, demonstrating the vital role of our geospatial expertise in industrial redevelopment.
CLIENT CASE STUDY #2 FLOOR FLATNESS
CLIENT:
Capital Park Retail-Smyths
CHALLENGES:
The project required a survey to determine floor flatness and levelness, to detect any irregularities, crucial for ensuring safe and efficient material handling equipment, proper fit - out and building structural integrity, and to comply with the relevant standards.
SOLUTIONS:
Malcolm Hughes used laser scanners to capture data and form a detailed point cloud, which they then analysed to create the report highlighting the areas where the floor deviated from required flatness and the flatness tolerance. A visual heatmap was created to demonstrate this data to the client.
