The dolphins Dolphins do not play in the waves as people believe.

Dolphins fall sleep while descending to the seabed.

What do they seek? I don’t know.

When they reach the bottom they wake up abruptly and swim back up because the sea is very deep and when going up, what do they seek? I don’t know.

And they see the sky and get sleepy again and descend to the seabed, and touch the bottom and wake up and swim back up So are our dreams.

Los delfines Los delfines no juegan en las olas como la gente cree.

Los delfines se duermen bajando hasta el fondo del mar. ¿Qué buscan? No sé.

Cuando tocan el fin del agua despiertan bruscamente y vuelven a subir porque el mar es muy profundo y cuando suben ¿qué buscan? No sé.

Y ven el cielo y les vuelve a dar sueño y vuelven a bajar dormidos, y vuelven a tocar el fondo del mar y se despiertan y vuelven a subir.

Así son nuestros sueños.

CAPÍTULO I Los espantapájaros Proclamados vigilantes de la soberanía orgánica, nacieron para ser interventores. Es sabido que con ese pulcro talento se nace, como un pura sangre.

No son suficientes el oficio y el entrenamiento, hacen falta ese brillo frío en los ojos del cerebro y ninguna duda en la racionalidad del pulso, relojeriles capacidades vedadas a la mayoría de los mortales.

Pero ellos son definitivamente diferentes.

CHAPTER I The Scarecrows Self-proclaimed vigilantes of organic sovereignty, they were born to intervene. It is known that such precise talent one can only be born with, like a blueblood. Neither dexterity nor training is enough.

It requires having that cold spark in your mind’s eye and confidence in the rationality of your pulse – clockworklike skills only bestowed upon a few mortals. But they are definitely different.

CAPÍTULO II El rey francés Ángela siente que el brillo de sus ojos se apaga como lo hace la llama cuando abandona al pabilo. Los últimos destellos huyen de la terapia intensiva y ella queda a merced de la oscuridad monárquica.

Todas las tiranías se parecen tanto.

CHAPTER II The French King Ángela feels the light in her eyes dimming like a flame running out of candlewick. The last sparks flee from the intensive therapy and she is now at the mercy of the monarchic darkness. All tyrannies are so alike.

CAPÍTULO III El desmonte Según lo consignan las teorías y las prácticas desarrolladas por aquellos que los precedieron en el camino del conocimiento, los espantapájaros delimitan el territorio insurrecto en la geografía de Ángela. Sobre ese campo anómalo dirigirán todo el arsenal autorizado por la ley (científica). “La promiscuidad de estos tejidos es un ejemplo de las manifestaciones orgánicas que debemos reprimir”, dice el Espantapájaros Mayor.

CHAPTER III The Felling According to the theories and practices developed by those who preceded them in the path of knowledge, the scarecrows delineate the insurrect territory of Angela’s geography. All arsenal authorized by scientific law shall be deployed to that anomalous field. “The promiscuity of these tissues is an example of the organic manifestations we must suppress,” said the elder scarecrow.

CAPÍTULO IV La caja Las paredes de la terapia intensiva están interminablemente vacías de cuadros y el cielorraso respira su humedad sobre la frente de los pacientes.

El encierro y el dolor perturban la percepción de Ángela: ¿es una niña atormentada o una mujer a quien se le ha robado la dignidad?

CHAPTER IV The box The walls of Intensive Care are endlessly devoid of paintings and the ceiling breathes its moisture onto the patients’ foreheads. The confinement and pain disturb Angela’s perceptions: A tormented girl?

Or a woman who has been robbed of dignity?

CAPÍTULO V Miradas A medida que pasan las semanas, el miedo segregado por las glándulas de Ángela es vertido puro, potentemente corrosivo, en el lumen de sus venas.

El único bálsamo que opaca tanto dolor dura apenas unos minutos cada día.

CHAPTER V Stares As the weeks pass, the fear secreted by Angela’s glands is poured pure, potent and corrosive into the lumen of her veins. The only balm that lessens the pain lasts just a few minutes each day.

CAPÍTULO VI La foto Los pacientes reclaman sus pertenencias, aquellas pequeñas cosas que aun los vinculan con el mundo exterior. Unas prendas de vestir, una foto.

Pero las imágenes de los seres queridos parecen ser succionadas por las sondas y drenajes que extraen fluidos de los cuerpos. Los recuerdos son secuestrados junto con la sangre.

CHAPTER VI The photo The patients claim their belongings – even the little things that link them to the outside world; some clothing, a photo – but the images of loved ones seem to have been sucked into the tubes and drains that extracted fluids from their bodies. Memories are sequestered along with the blood.

CAPÍTULO VII Las vacas Los cuerpos de los pacientes deben supeditarse a las unívocas especificaciones del formato normalizado.

La consigna de los espantapájaros es intervenir hasta dejar los órganos libres de irregularidades. Todos los métodos y procedimientos que apuntan a lograr el disciplinamiento orgánico son permitidos.

CHAPTER VII The cows The patients’ bodies shall be subjected to the unambiguous specifications of the standard formats.

The mission of the scarecrow is to intervene until the bodies are free of irregularities. Any method and procedure utilized to achieve organic discipline shall be allowed.

CAPÍTULO VIII Cabeza Al nuevo sólo se le ve la cabeza. Quizás sea apenas una cabeza y cuando salga de la terapia intensiva lo haga rodando. Cabecita rodante para hacer viajes.

Práctica cabeza que se acopla al auto para huir.

CHAPTER VIII Head You can only see the new one’s head. Maybe it’s just a head and will simply roll out of Intensive Care: rolling head for trips; practical head that attaches to the car to flee.

CAPÍTULO IX Las calles Hay una vida allá afuera pero los bisturíes y sondas de los espantapájaros trastocan las fronteras de Ángela al punto de convertirla en una inmigrante ilegal de sí misma.

CHAPTER IX The streets There is a life out there, but the scarecrows’ scalpels and probes disturb Angela’s borders to the point of making her an illegal immigrant.

CAPĂ?TULO X Justicia ÂżExiste una especie de limbo para los pacientes impacientes? Tal vez sea un lugar hacia el que los despachan vaciados de pertenencias internas, pĂĄlidos y con menos peso, tan livianos como no tener documentos y no ser nadie.

CHAPTER X Justice Is there a special kind of limbo for impatient patients?

Maybe there is a place to which they get dispatched, removed of internal belongings, pale and emaciated, so light as to not have documents; to be nobody.

Carina Maguregui - guión / script Licenciada en Ciencias Biológicas de la Universidad de Buenos Aires. En 2010 obtuvo una Diplomatura Superior en Educación, Imágenes y Medios de FLACSO. Ganó premios y menciones en concursos nacionales de ensayo, dramaturgia e historieta. Su obra de teatro “Tumbada blanca en blanco” recibió una Mención Honorífica en el Concurso Nacional de Argentores: Primera Obra, 2006; y fue puesta en escena en 2007 con subsidio de ProTeatro y auspicio del Ministerio de Cultura del Gobierno de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires.

Degree in Biology from the University of Buenos Aires. In 2010 obtained a Higher Diploma in Education, and Media Images FLACSO. She won prizes in national competitions of essay, comic and drama. Muriel Frega - ilustraciones / illustrations Egresada de las escuelas de Bellas Artes Manuel Belgrano y Prilidiano Pueyrred贸n como Profesora de Grabado y Dibujo. Participa de exhibiciones y salones de grabado, dibujo y ex-libris obteniendo premios y menciones. Desde 1999 trabaja como ilustradora independiente para varias editoriales y empresas, entre ellas: Santillana, Edelvives, Macmillan, VyR Editoras, AGEA SA, HSM Group, WMB, Shinseken Ltd., Ed.Perfil, Revista N贸mada.

Graduate from Manuel Belgrano and Prilidiano Pueyrred贸n Fine Arts Schools. Has participated in exhibitions and salons of drawing, engraving and bookplates getting awards and mentions. Since 1999 works as a freelance illustrator for various publishers and companies including: Santillana, Edelvives, Macmillan, VyR Editors, AGEA SA, HSM Group, WMB, Shinseken Ltd., Ed.Perfil, N贸mada Magazine.
