I have created a series of artworks dedicated to the history and evolution of Tabby cats. My interest in this breed began when I adopted a stray mackerel tabby as my pet. Despite being commonly found cats, Tabby cats possess a unique charm due to their diverse colors and patterns. I was intrigued by their domestication and origins and thus researched their history, ranging from their name, Attabi, and Tabis, to their varied DNA and anatomy. I aimed to showcase the development of this beautiful and familiar cat through informative artwork utilizing hierarchy, space, scale, and figure/ground to guide the viewer on a compositional exploration of the Tabby cat. This project is student work; all images used were licensed or free. The cover page is a digital drawing I created using Photoshop from an original photograph of my cat. The back cover was produced using a licensed image as a base, and I digitally painted by hand in Photoshop different iterations based on that image.
