The Vital Movement is a weekly open mic in Atlanta’s Little Five Points that has quickly become a cornerstone of the city’s independent creative scene. Founded in early 2024 by conscious rapper and Mimber Megaciph, the event was created to provide a consistent and welcoming space for artists to perform, connect, and grow. After launching, he partnered with venue owner America, who provided the space to bring the vision to life.
Early in its development, Megaciph brought on creative director JointDexter and filmmaker Sonia Mathews of Crushed Velvet Films as key partners. Their involvement helped elevate the event’s experience and visual identity. As it grew, fellow Mimbers Cliff Icon and Dude Dynamik joined the team, having first participated as regular performers.
From the beginning, Megaciph leveraged his Mimbership, cross-promoting the event through the Makin’ It Kickback. That synergy at-
tracted strong support from the Makin’ It community, with many Mimbers becoming frequent performers and contributors.
Held every Wednesday from 7–10 PM, The Vital Movement evolved into more than an open mic—it became a home for creative fellowship and opportunity. Known for its supportive atmosphere, genre-spanning performances, and real-world opportunities, it provided many artists with their first paid gigs through booked feature slots.
The event’s growing success transformed The Vital Movement into a full-fledged brand, attracting partnerships with Dope Coffee, CampN Trip ATL, and other collaborations in the works. Fueled by purpose and powered by community, it continues to thrive as a platform where culture, artistry, and vision converge.

At Makin’ It Magazine, we’ve always believed in the power of relationships and real industry connections. That’s why we launched the Makin’ It Tastemaker Program—a one-ofa-kind initiative designed to bridge the gap between independent artists and the people who move the culture forward.
Our Tastemakers are DJs, playlist curators, media outlets, show promoters, bloggers, influencers, and content creators who play an active role in discovering and supporting new talent. Rather than charging these gatekeepers, we partner with them—offering free promotion for their brands and platforms across our network in exchange for providing real opportunities to deserving artists.
Through the Tastemaker Program, Mimbers gain access to a trusted
network of professionals who help amplify their music via playlist placements, blog features, show bookings, social media posts, podcast interviews, and more. These aren’t passive contacts—they’re hands-on creatives passionate about supporting what’s next.
In return, Tastemakers receive exposure through our social channels, newsletter, print magazine, and events. We also collaborate with them on curated experiences like showcases, reviews, interviews, and meet-and-greets, helping grow their platforms while empowering independent voices.
