About the Kirby Collection
The Making Music Kirby Collection of printed music was created in 2011 thanks to a generous legacy from our first Chairman Alan Kirby, who was a leading figure in choral singing in Surrey in the mid-20th century. Alan and his wife Ethel were keen to ensure the continued success of choral singing in Surrey and the Making Music Board decided
in 2009 to use their legacy to purchase a collection of printed music. This is now kept at the Surrey Performing Arts Library for the use of choirs in Surrey and the rest of the UK. This extensive collection offers a wide range of contemporary and standard repertoire, including many choral favourites as well as some more unusual pieces.
