PRESIDENTIAL VISION & LETTERS OF SUPPORT As a candidate for the nomination of the President EACMFS for the period 2022-2024, it is a big honor for me to express my vision for the Presidency of the Association.

The European Association for Cranio-Maxillo-Facial Surgery is rapidly moving towards its 50th Anniversary Celebration, and today it acts as a global leader in Europe in the promotion and advancement of knowledge, training and innovation within the scope of Cranio-Maxillo-Facial Surgery.

It has become the most prominent and highly respected professional group for the Specialty in Europe and has a high profile in other parts of the World in coordinating the development of OMF & CMF at European and National level in order to advance the standards of care through improved education and training.

I feel that my knowledge and experience gained by my active involvement within the European Association, since 2002, would undoubtedly stand in me in good stead for the responsibilities that would lay ahead in the position of President of the EACMFS. Over many years I dedicated enormous efforts and time to promote many initiatives in favour of the European Association first at the side of our Past President Prof. Luigi Clauser, during my term as EACMFS Executive Advisor and currently as EACMFS Education & Training Officer.

Even if the role of the EACMFS President has been frequently associated with the organization of the European Congress, which must be one of the key objectives, I feel the President should also endeavor to develop, supervise and support EACMFS educational ventures.

The success of the Association is the result of consistent and purposeful commitment by those who are willing to drive the Association forwards.

The other key role for the President, is chairing the Executive Committee in cooperation with the Secretariat and supervising EACMFS worldwide activities.

Oral and Cranio-Maxillo-Facial Surgery (OMF & CMF) has a rich history and its evolution has been dramatic.

Today, the Specialty takes the lead amongst the related disciplines in a fully integrated interdisciplinary patient care system.

Currently the role of the Scientific Societies is of paramount importance if we consider our profession not only from the clinical perspective but also as being deeply involved in the organizational changes in management.

If I was fortunate enough to be appointed I would strongly support the following future plans: • contribution to the upcoming certifying processes for a global certification process in OMS profession; • providing new ideas to use Foundation monies;

• to support EACMFS Trainees (i.e.: grants, prizes, awards, fellowship, new educational and surgical activities in developing countries); • strong cooperation with the Trainees and the Councillors to develop new ways of communication ( i.e.: social media, streaming live video education); • expand representation of the EACMFS at international events in order to establish and fortify links with other associations.

I believe the Association would benefit from working closely with the National Meetings through Europe and worldwide in terms of active participation and spread of knowledge; • strong support for educational activities in Eastern Europe and, in particular, the underdeveloped countries; • continuing the work for harmonization of qualifications and training through the UEMS and the EBOMFS. EACMFS has made important changes to its constitution, re-enforcing the need for medical and dental qualifications, but recognising the desirability of shortened second degree courses which eliminate unnecessary duplication of prior learning; • review the areas of cooperation between the UEMS and European Scientific Societies (EES) and to explore new ways to develop common projects; • support the development of sub-specialty subgroups; • reinforcing and promoting the European Spirit of the Specialty in all the EACMFS activities and international relationships.

It would also be a pleasure to welcome all participants in the XXVII EACMFS Congress to Italy and in Rome.

Italy has been the cradle of many European cultures, such as the Etruscans and the Romans, later it was the birthplace of the University and of the Renaissance, that began in Tuscany and spread all over Europe.

Italy’s capital, Rome, was for centuries the center of western civilization.

Rome will provide an unforgettable setting for this important event and I strongly believe Rome represents the ideal venue for the European Congress in 2024.

Bearing in mind that education is the core business of every scientific association, the role of the President is by far the most important one requiring a high level of responsibility which I believe I am qualified to accept.

The Host City Welcome to Rome Traditionally founded in 753 BC by Romulus and Remus, Rome began its great development beginning from the 10 century BC till it became first a Republic and then the centre of a great empire, the Roman Empire.

The Eternal City was Caput Mundi (Head of the World) in the Roman era, and from its law and liberal arts and sciences radiated to the confines of the vast Empire, which covered the whole of the known western world. After its fall, in 476 AC, the city underwent a slow decline and was invaded by barbarians.

In this century, Rome restored its role of the first importance in European history. Seat of the Italian government, seat of the Christianity for the presence of the Vatican, and one of the most important cultural and artistic centre of the world, the city attracts every year millions of tourists with its imposing rests of the past and some of the greatest works of art

of the Renaissance and the Baroque.

Located in the centre of Italy with its two airports, Rome is at easy reach for travellers from Europe, Asia and America.

Due to the many LOW-COST COMPANIES and HIGH-SPEED TRAINS that have connections to Rome, costs are mostly affordable. Rome offers a wide range of prices for lodging and food: a great advantage for young scientists and emerging scholars from developing Countries.

The city transport system is cheap and well developed.

Colosseum However, most of the places are conveniently located at walking distance. Yet, Rome is full of historic and artistic treasures easily accessible to anyone at any time by simply strolling around. Many Museums in Rome are free of charge.

There will be no language-related issues, since Rome has always been a very important centre of tourist attraction and people are used to speak with visitors in English, German, Spanish and French.

To understand the complexity and beauty of the work, images are not enough. For this reason, the Rome Convention Group allows the representatives of the international meeting industry to visit the location, on request.

The Rome Convention Center La Nuvola is a work of extraordinary artistic value, characterized by innovative solutions, an eco-compatible approach and technologically advanced materials. The project is based on the interaction of three elements: the case, the Cloud and the hotel.

The Cloud is undoubtedly the most characteristic architectural element: the structure, with its extraordinary visual effect, floats in a 40-meter-high steel and glass case, 70 and 175 long. The whole complex is designed to be highly flexible, able to host events with very different characteristics and with a total capacity of almost 8,000 seats. It is one of the main European airports as it is connected with about 150 cities on a daily basis and over 100 international airlines operate at the international Rome Fiumicino Leonardo da Vinci Airport.

Leonardo Express: a non-stop service exclusively for airport passengers to/from Rome Termini railway station leaving every 30 minutes (every 15 minutes at peak times). Trains depart every half hour from 6:23 to 23:23, and the trip takes 32 minutes. The cost of one way ticket is 14,00 e per person.

Regional FL1 trains: to/from other stations in Rome, including Rome Tiburtina, with departures every 15 minutes on weekdays and every 30 minutes on weekends and holidays.

Frecciargento: four high-speed trains, two arriving and two leaving, connect Leonardo da Vinci Airport with the cities of Rome, Florence, Bologna, Padua and Venice on a daily basis, without having to change trains. PUBLIC TRANSPORT The public transport service in Rome offers the widest network in Italy.

The Wi MOve Project is carried out through a collaboration between the Municipality of Rome and Italian Prime Minister Offices.

Atac SpA has implemented this service and the solutions for “Roma Capitale�, whose goals are: improving mobile information services and experimenting new services; building a free WiFi network that allows free access to information services on transport and tourism and unlimited free internet access; developing new services aimed at the integration of information on tourist attractions and public transport; experimenting new distribution channels for public information.

All services will be available on all ground transportation services.

A wide range of transport service tickets is available, enabling delegates to easily reach the main areas of interest.

Roma Pass has been specifically designed to have access to the ground transportation network, with special fares to visit museums and monuments.

For children tickets on public transport are free as soon as 10 years old.

The city has a widespread museum network and hundreds of sites of archaeological and cultural interest.

The most visited include the Villa Borghese Museum, the Vatican Museums, Castel Sant’Angelo, the National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art, Palazzo Venezia and the National Gallery of Ancient Art in Palazzo Barberini.

In addition to these Rome has the World’s oldest museum open to the public, the Musei Capitolini, commissioned in 1471 by Pope Sixtus IV. These national treasures were visited by over 432,000 people in 2016.

ARCHITECTURE AND ARCHAEOLOGY Rome offers the excitement of a glorious past. Its archaeological sites are a fascinating and constant reminder of the city’s glorious history.

Spectacular symbols of the Roman Empire range from the largest amphitheatre in the world to the Pantheon.

The Colosseum is a piece of eternity towering over the Imperial Forums.

There are architectural masterpieces such as the Roman Forum and the Palatino, to the Baths of Caracalla and Circo Massimo. Not forgetting the Domus Aurea and the Domus Romane in Palazzo Valentini.

A visit to the most famous squares which include Piazza di Spagna, Piazza Venezia, Piazza Navona, Campo de’ Fiori, Piazza San Pietro in the Vatican and Piazza del Popolo, is a must.

Then there are the fountains and the villas, the parks, gardens and terraces. So many have breathtaking views.

THE CHALLENGE OF MODERNITY: CONTEMPORARY ROME Rome is not only the cradle of antiquity and past art, it is also the home of new ideas and works that are constantly evolving. In recent years some of the most prestigious names in the field of urban planning, architecture and art have designed the contemporary face of the Italian capital.

For example, The Ara Pacis Museum, designed by Richard Meier, is a transparent diaphragm between the city and the Tiber River. The building was designed to safeguard and protect the first century BC Augustan altar. It is mainly used as an exhibition space and is an ideal venue for events and conferences.

The MAXXI (Museum of 21st Century Art and Architecture) was designed by Iraqi Zaha Hadid and was opened in May 2012. The space is par excellence in Roma for contemporary art and architecture.

The Ponte della Musica was opened in 2011 and was designed by Kit Powell-Williams Architects.

The key to its success is the constant interaction with the urban fabric in to which it is inserted. The outer space was conceived as a piazza, in which to encourage the movement of people, tourists and families.

The Parco della Musica Auditorium designed by Renzo Piano is the leading space dedicated to music in Europe and fifth in the world. Concerts, outdoor activities and spectacular events take place here. It consists of three large zones for the concert halls and is encased in a living garden.

The MACRO (Museum of Contemporary Art in Rome) was opened in 2010. It is an early 20th-century industrial building that has been converted and expanded into an exhibition space with the design of Odile Decq.

The French architect has “sewn� together sections of several pre-existing buildings to create new exhibition rooms. There is a raised terrace that offers a spectacular view of Rome.

ACCESSIBLE ROME Rome awaits you!

For its all its history, it is not easy to get about in Rome’s streets, churches and archaeological sites. However the Eternal City is changing all that and striving to ensure that the magnificent spectacle of its historical and artistic treasures can be enjoyed by absolutely everyone.

Which is exactly why the City Council Plan envisages a series of important steps aimed at reducing the problems in getting around the city.

This plan, which is set to become “one hundred percent operative by the end of the year”, is giving top priority to wheelchairs and the disabled in general in queues for monuments and museums; all of which is being made possible thanks to the tourist card Roma Pass, especially fitted buses stopping as close as possible to monuments, to the creation of special itineraries as well as to guides in Braille.

Time off in Rome & Surroundings Castelli romani From a geographical point of view, the territory commonly known as the “Castelli Romani” corresponds to the volcanic complex of the Colli Albani (Alban Hills), located a few kilometres southeast of Rome, with 17 towns referred to precisely as the Castelli Romani.

A favourite holiday resort or simply a retreat for the nobility and wealthy ever since the days of the Roman Empire, today’s Romans still head straight here during the sweltering summer heat.

An absolute “must” is a visit to Frascati, dominated by the imposing sixteenth century Villa Aldobrandini, whose splendid façade, with its Italian gardens, aristocratically stands out above the entire village.

If you prefer a more medieval style, then you should make for nearby Grottaferrata, which is largely identified with the Monastery of Saint Nilus The Younger and founded by Basilian monks from Bizantine Calabria.

However the Castelli are also renowned for the small towns nestling around its volcanic lakes such as Castel Gandolfo, the Pope’s summer residence overlooking Lake Albano. Weather permitting, it is well worth going for a refreshing swim or relaxing in one of the many lake-side cafés.

For a wonderful panorama of the lavish countryside and inviting blue waters, you could do no better than drop into Nemi. This small town overlooks the lake of the same name on whose banks we find the Museum of Roman Ships (Museo delle Navi Romane), built by Fascist Dictator Benito Mussolini to house two ships constructed on the orders of Roman Emperor Caligula which were salvaged between 1927 and 1932 on Mussolini ordering the lowering of the lake.

Moving further on, we come across even more fascinating ruins and breathtaking views. However the Castelli Romani zone is also well-known for its cuisine and locally-produced white wine. Where better though to relax and enjoy all this than in one of the local “Fraschette”, taverns only to be found in this zone. More often than not located in revamped cellars, there is no finer place to savour the olives, cheeses, porchetta (a savory and

moist boneless pork roast) and a whole array of typical Roman dishes. Ariccia may be the “Fraschette” capital, but the other towns certainly do not fall short of the mark: Monte Porzio Catone, Montecompatri, Rocca Priora, Colonna, Rocca di Papa, Marino, Albano Laziale and Genzano… the truth of the matter is that one is just spoilt for choice!

THERMAL BATHS Relax Like a Roman In ancient Roman times, natural thermal baths served as a center for social gathering, places of well-being, and leisure centers. One of the famous being the Baths of Caracalla. Though no longer functioning as a bathhouse, this ancient Roman structure - and now tourist attraction - once housed up to 1,600 bathers and operated as a sanitation, leisure and networking waterhole for all Romans alike.

Rome, city of Events The famous expression “all roads lead to Rome” still echoes today, but in new and more colourful ways. Rome was the first great metropolis that humanity ever knew. It is European tourists’ favourite city and one of the top 10 most beloved worldwide. It is one of the most-visited destination and the number one in Italy. It is a melting pot that connects continents, cultures and people. Some of whom have already made their mark in history and some who are set to shape our future.

However, being unique is not enough. Rome wishes to reign in the field of tourism. and most especially in the particular type of tourism that is known as the “Meeting Industry”.

That is why Rome, with its portfolio of culinary, natural, archaeological and historical excellence, is going to reinvigorate the entire region starting with its move into the Roma and Lazio Convention Bureau.

This path has given way to the consolidation of a new form of public-private partnership that has already been tested in 2014 with the Convention Bureau Italia. Roma and the Lazio Region on the one hand and the operators of the region’s Meeting Industry on the other, have succeeded in working in harmony.

The shared goal was to give impetus to the economy by acting on the region’s most productive tourism sector.

The Meeting Industry stands out for its average daily expenditure level per participant and this is far higher than the average per capita daily expenditure of other tourism sectors.

After years of plans and initiatives, Roma and Lazio Convention Bureau has been established and we salute the pragmatic approach that has marked the final stages of its creation.

In the first few months 86 members (now are 116) and partners joined the Convention Bureau. Hosts of the most internationally prestigious congress centres including La Nuvola; trade fairs such as the Fiera di Roma; strategic players such as the airport system; more than 30 business-oriented hotels with 5, 4 and 3 stars; more than ten PCO, DMC and Incentive House companies, including internationally experienced operators; and finally, 40 Service providers to complete the entire supply chain, all joined to make this happen.

There was an enthusiastic response from the promoting associations, operator representatives and institutions when the proposal was addressed to all at the Meeting Industry stakeholders meeting in May 2017.

This is a hugely important initial step that has resulted in the immediate co-ordination between operators and institutions, creating a Convention Bureau System.

The goal is to go back to being leaders in the Serie A of the global Meeting Industry Championship.

It is fundamental to work with great commitment in order to meet the international demand that does not tolerate inadequate facilities, infrastructures or services. It is an initiative that will bring the Rome that is dreamed of by millions of people worldwide, in to reality.

The operation will make use of a great joint effort. It is fundamental to the economy and to the people who experience our wonderful region every day.

Social program PALAZZO SACCHETTI Dinner & Party for 300/500 trainees (finger buffet) Palazzo Sacchetti is a late Renaissance building among the most beautiful of Rome. Its construction was carried out in 1542 on a project of Sangallo, the architect of Palazzo Farnese and coadjutor of Raffaello in the construction of St. Peter’s Basilica. Sangallo built it for himself, dedicating the last years of his life to make it the “perfect building”. In 1608, it was bought by the Archbishop of Naples, who built the chapel frescoed by Agostino Ciampelli. Visa Consideration PASSPORT AND VISA REQUIREMENTS FROM EU COUNTRY You do not need to show your passport when you are travelling to Italy from one border-free Schengen EU country.

Even if you don’t need a passport for border checks within the Schengen area, it is still always highly recommended to take a passport or ID card with you, so you can prove your identity if needed.

You must still show a valid ID card or passport when travelling to or from Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Ireland, Romania and the United Kingdom. Though part of the EU, these countries do not belong to the border-free Schengen area.

Business plan INTRODUCTION Considering the need, at this stage, to draft a business plan for an event to be held in 2024 and without the exact knowledge of how the market will evolve in the field of events organization (in this case related to the compliance and industry regulation by EFPIA-Pharma- and EUCOMED -Tech Devices-), the applicant would like to assure EACMFS ExCom that Rome complies with all financial requirements to host an EACMFS Congress without any risk for the European Association, moreover driving a benefit for the EACMFS.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Considering that the EACMFS Congress hosts a minimum of 1,300/1,500 attendees, which in a venue like Rome could clearly be higher, and it is likely to achieve an expected income between 1.000.000,00 and 1.300.000,00 â‚Ź (registrations, exhibitions, sponsorship) we have been very careful in choosing the Congress Venue and decrease even more its rental fee and onsite external services, which are, at the end the day, the highest fixed costs.

VENUE Rental fee The rental fee by La Nuvola (venue) is of 250.000,00 â‚Ź - to be confirmed.

Food & Beverage Italy is known for its food quality but also for the prices of food-related services. The rates are lower than what is offered all over Europe by the most important Congress Halls for the same kind of services.
