POLICE BEAT

COPS FIND LAUNDRY BAGS FILLED WITH 10 POUNDS OF MARIJUANA AT REGO PARK APARTMENT Talk about pot luck. Officers responding to a domestic dispute at a Rego Park apartment building on Saturday night wound up seizing more than 10 pounds of marijuana discovered at the residence. The trouble began at about 10:40 p.m. on the night of Oct. 22, when officers assigned to the 112th Precinct arrived at an apartment house on Queens Boulevard near 65th Road after receiving a 911 call about an assault in one of the apartments. According to the criminal complaint provided by the Queens District

Attorney’s office, Police Officer Nicole Atkinson arrived at the location and heard a man and woman arguing inside an apartment. The officer knocked on the door and identified herself as police, but the man inside the residence refused to open the door. Officer Atkinson then went an apartment one floor above the residence and climbed onto the fire escape, walking down to the unit where the argument was taking place. She found on the fire escape two large laundry bags and observed the arguing man — Richard Perreira, 27 — reach out the window and pull one of the bags inside. Law enforcement sources said the officer then observed Perreira as he walked to another

window in the apartment and threw the bag out of it. The bag landed on the street near where Police Officer Kurt Anderson stood. Officer Anderson opened the bag and found several vacuum-sealed packs of marijuana and marijuana residue inside of it. Police recovered the second laundry bag, which also contained vacuum-sealed marijuana packs. In total, the marijuana seized had a street value of about $48,000. The 112th Precinct displayed the seized marijuana in a post on its Twitter account on Sunday night: Following questioning, Perreira was arrested on charges of criminal possession of marijuana; he was subsequently released on $5,000 cash bail, according to court records.

TEENAGER KILLED, ANOTHER INJURED AFTER BEING STRUCK BY CAR IN OZONE PARK Two teenage girls were struck by a car at an Ozone Park intersection on Monday morning, and one of them has died of her injuries, according to police. Authorities said the incident occurred at 6:42 a.m. at the corner of Cross Bay Boulevard and 149th Avenue, a short distance from J.H.S. 202. Law enforcement sources said Jazmine Marin, 13, of 107th Avenue in Richmond Hill and another 13-year-old girl were crossing the boulevard eastbound about 20 feet south of 149th Avenue when they were hit by a green Chevrolet sedan operated by a 65-year-old man traveling southbound on Cross Bay Boulevard. The driver stopped his vehicle and remained at the scene following the incident.

Officers from the 106th Precinct and EMS units rushed to the location. Both girls were taken to Jamaica Hospital; Marin, who suffered severe head trauma, was pronounced dead on arrival. The other teenager sustained a leg injury and is listed in stable condition.

No charges have been filed against the driver, and an investigation is ongoing.
