February is Black History Month! We have brought you Black History Month editorial every week throughout the month of February. This week journalist Hazel Smith presents the history of the Black Press. Harlem Community Newspapers, Inc. is a proud member of NNPA (organization of 200+ Black newspaper publishers in the US). The Black press has been an essential communication source for our community with information about the Pandemic safety precautions, tests, vaccine, as well as “Black Lives Matter” events as we record events pertinent to the Black Community every week. Weekly we continue to record “Black History.” (see page 17) My first cousin, Sandra Cruz, is still in the hospital on a respirator as we go to press and her 2 sons also are suffering from COVID. Please pray for my family. I have received my second shot of the Pfizer vaccine last week and I am happy to report I had no side affects and feeling a sense of security. Please get your vaccine when it is your turn. Remember to continue to shop with local businesses. When you shop with local small businesses it is more likely that money will continue to circulate within your community. Many of our small business owners are raising their family in the community.
