Top wedding trends of the season

Weddings are entering a new era: one where tradition meets individuality. For fall and winter 2025–2026, couples are less concerned with following rules and more focused on curating experiences that reflect who they are. From moody color palettes and sculptural florals to intimate elopements and playful nostalgia, this season’s trends prove that there is no single way to say “I do.”

1. Moody and earthy luxe color palettes

Deep, grounding tones are in. Think olive, terracotta, slate blue, deep plum, jewel

tones like emerald and sapphire, and rich rusts.

2. Editorial-style candids

Wedding photography is moving further into documen-

3. Eco-conscious celebrations

Sustainability isn’t just a buzzword — it’s a wedding essential in 2025. From digital invitations and “Save The Dates” to locally-sourced florals and thrifted attire, couples are making ecofriendly choices that reduce waste without sacrificing style or breaking the bank.

4. Non-traditional venues

Instead of churches and ballrooms, couples are booking art galleries, rooftop gardens, national parks and

tary-meets-editorial territory. Think cinematic movement over stiff posing. Photographers are embracing film, slow-motion reels and emotionally rich shots that feel lifted from a magazine spread. It’s less ‘shot list’ and more story.

even industrial warehouses. These unique spaces lend themselves to one-of-a-kind aesthetics and unforgettable guest experiences.

5. Micro-weddings and elopements

Less is more. The trend toward intimate gatherings continues, with couples opting for micro-weddings (under 50 guests) or romantic elopements. Whether it’s to keep their big day more affordable or decrease its stress, these smaller celebrations allow for more personalized touches and meaningful moments with loved ones.

6. Introverted “I Dos”

Not every couple wants to take center stage — and in 2026, they don’t have to.

More introverted pairs are reshaping traditional wedding moments to feel more private and personal. Instead of grand entrances or dramatic send-offs, they’re opting for quieter alternatives: private vows before the ceremony, unannounced cake cuttings, secluded dinners before the reception or inviting all guests to join the floor during their first dance to deflect attention.

7. Multi-look weddings

One dress just isn’t enough. More and more brides are choosing multiple outfits — a bold dress for the ceremony, a shorter one to make dancing at the reception easier and maybe even a third for the after-party. It’s a chance for the couple to show off different aspects of their style throughout the day.

Brides are also embracing detachable overskirts, capes, jackets, lace overlays and multiple-piece gowns. This gives them dramatic reveals and flexibility across cold-towarm moments.

8. Interactive guest experiences and hyperpersonalization

Couples are turning

weddings into immersive experiences that reflect their personalities at every turn. Interactive elements, like cocktail bars, live portrait artists and audio guestbooks, invite guests to participate rather than just watch. Lawn games, body-painting stations, and cigar or whiskey lounges add moments of play

Hyper-personalization goes further, with signature menus inspired by a first date or playlists built from guest-submitted memories. Every detail feels intentional and distinctly theirs, making the celebration truly one-ofa-kind.

9. The ‘minus oneyear’ celebration

A new pre-wedding ritual is emerging: the minus-oneyear anniversary. Exactly twelve months out, couples are celebrating their anniversary before the wedding. They celebrate by having a romantic dinner at home (or at the wedding venue) with a custom menu inspired by their wedding flavors, exchanging handwritten notes about future vows or hopes

for married life and even getting a cake with “-1” on it.

10. Throwback guest entertainment

Nostalgia is stepping into the reception. Couples are embracing vintage-inspired guest experiences with ‘90s and early 2000s flair. Think retro arcade games, claw machines stocked with plush prizes or custom sticker dispensers as favors. These playful touches offer builtin icebreakers and remind guests that weddings can be fun, not just formal.

11. The elongated stem bouquet

Bouquets are stretching into new territory — literally. Minimalist, elongated-stem arrangements are taking over, featuring calla lilies, “stemmy” tulips and trailing

greenery. The look is clean, sculptural and inspired by organic form. Rather than tightly bound blooms, these bouquets embrace negative space and graceful lines, turning florals into modern art.

12. Cozy lounge zones and hygge details

To counter the chill, creating warm, intimate moments is key: lounge seating, throws or blankets, fire pits, candlelight, soft textures. These touches make outdoor or tented spaces feel welcoming.

This year, it’s clear that couples are choosing meaning over spectacle, atmosphere over agenda and personality over protocol.

Whether that means hosting 30 guests at a candlelit dinner or dancing in three different outfits under vintage neon lights, today’s celebrations are as varied as the love stories behind them.

From bridal boutique to ‘Marry Me’: Michele Musto finds purpose in officiating love stories

Michele Musto never planned on becoming a wedding officiant. In 2017, she was working at a bridal boutique in Northfield, surrounded by lace gowns and excited bridesto-be. What stayed with her were not the dresses, but the stories — how couples met, the milestones that led to engagement and the anticipation of marriage.

When a friend asked her to officiate a ceremony, she

agreed, not yet realizing that a single “yes” would lead to a new calling.

After performing that first ceremony, Musto discovered a profound connection to the role, and later, through talking with the owner of the bridal boutique, she was convinced to start a business as a wedding officiant.

“After I performed my friend’s wedding, I felt like I was almost addicted. It was so fun, so meaningful. I enjoyed the whole process of getting to know my friend in a different way,” Musto

Christine's Italian

said. “We were diving deep into her love story with her fiancé and it just made me view marriage in more of a partnership, in a head and heart connection of the two people, rather than just being a celebration.”

She said crafting meaningful vows and guiding couples through one of the most significant moments of their lives offered a fulfillment unlike anything she had experienced.

Musto soon became ordained through American Marriage Ministries, ensuring she could legally officiate in New Jersey, where state law requires officiants to be ministers or connected to a recognized religious or governmental body.

She then founded Marry Me, a small, non-denominational officiant service she now runs with her daughter.

Although she works as an officiant part-time, Musto

pours thoughtful attention into each ceremony, treating it as more than a traditional formality.

She became known for personalizing each service, taking time to learn the couple’s journey and framing marriage as an intentional partnership.

“I feel really lucky when couples ask me to be part of their big day. It’s something that’s really meaningful. It’s like you’re throwing the biggest party with all your family and friends. And most of the time, you’re marrying your best friend. So for me, it’s something that I take really seriously,” Musto said.

Over the years, she expanded beyond formal weddings to include vow renewals and love commitments — non-legal celebrations for couples who wish to honor their relationship with heartfelt promises witnessed by family and friends.

To date, Musto has officiated nearly 100 ceremonies across multiple states, including New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, Delaware and Florida.

Despite her passion for officiating, Musto continues to balance her work with her day job as a volunteer coordinator and external marketing assistant at The Shores, an assisted living community in Ocean City.

Musto emphasizes the importance of prioritizing the wedding ceremony itself — an aspect she believes is sometimes overshadowed by reception planning and trends.

For her, the ceremony is the foundation of the day, setting the tone for everything that follows. She encourages couples to design a service that reflects their values, personalities and promises, rather than following expectations or imitating others.

“Now there’s so many wedding trends that go on in the ceremony and reception.

And I kind of think, ‘Why wait for the reception to have fun? Why not have fun right from the beginning?’,” Musto said.

For couples seeking a customized, heartfelt cer-

emony, Musto remains accessible through social media rather than a formal website. Find her on Instagram at: marryme_nj and Facebook: Marry Me.

Putting more of ‘You’ in your wedding

Awedding day is one of life’s most meaningful celebrations — a reflection of two people, their story, and their future together. While traditions provide structure and symbolism, today’s couples are reimagining what it means to say “I do” by adding touches that are personal, playful, and uniquely their own. From the ceremony to the send-off, the most memorable weddings are those that feel authentic — not just beautiful, but deeply “you.”

Making meaning your own

The roots of many wedding rituals stretch back centuries. The white dress, the exchange of rings, the first dance — each tradition

carries symbolism and sentiment. But personalization doesn’t mean abandoning those customs. It’s about in-

fusing them with your shared story.

Maybe you write your own vows that include a few inside jokes. Maybe you walk down the aisle to a song that reminds you of your first road trip together. Or perhaps you choose to marry in a place that has emotional meaning — a favorite beach, family backyard, or the local amusement pier where you shared your first date.

For some couples, personalization means integrating their cultural heritage or family traditions in creative ways — a unity candle alongside a sand ceremony, or a reading that blends two faiths. For others, it’s about

simplicity — stripping away what feels performative and focusing on what truly matters: love, connection, and the people who’ve supported your journey.

Setting the tone with music and mood

Music is one of the most powerful ways to express personality. Instead of sticking to standard wedding playlists, couples today are curating soundtracks that tell their story — from the processional to the after-party.

A live acoustic set during cocktail hour, a DJ spinning your favorite old-school hits, or a surprise performance by a local band can completely transform the energy of the day. Even the ceremony music can set a tone — maybe you opt for a string quartet playing Coldplay or a ukulele version of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.”

Lighting and décor also set the stage. Think beyond color palettes and centerpieces — how do you want guests to feel when they walk into the room? Warm and cozy? Glamorous and elegant? Beachy and relaxed? Every design choice, from candles and signage to seating arrangements, contributes to the atmosphere and the memory you create.

Adding a personal touch

Personalization can be simple and affordable. One couple displayed framed photos from their parents’ and grandparents’ weddings, honoring generations of love. Another served dessert from their favorite local bakery — the one they visit every Satur-

day morning. A third replaced table numbers with names of meaningful places from their relationship: “Cape May,” “Boardwalk,” “The Point.”

You can also bring “you” into the details: handwritten notes to guests, signature cocktails inspired by your pets, or a custom cake topper that reflects your personalities. Personalized favors are trending away from trinkets and toward experiences — think mini succulents, homemade jams, or donations made in guests’ names to a favorite charity.

And for couples who don’t take themselves too seriously, whimsy is always welcome. Wedding parties have made grand entrances on bicycles, skateboards, or even electric scooters. It’s those unplanned, lighthearted moments that guests talk about for years.

Rethinking the rules

There are no longer “right” or “wrong” ways to celebrate your marriage. Some couples skip the big party altogether and host an intimate dinner

to their hearts by working with vendors who give back or by requesting donations to a favorite nonprofit in lieu of gifts.

Food and drink offer endless opportunities for personalization. A Jersey Shore couple recently served a late-night snack of boardwalk fries and funnel cake — a nod to where they met. Another couple set up a Frosty Fusion cart for guests to enjoy ice cream and Italian ice, creating nostalgic, joyful moments between dances.

under the stars. Others throw a weekend-long festival with food trucks, live music, and lawn games.

What’s constant is the desire for connection. After all, your wedding isn’t just a performance — it’s a celebration of the community that has shaped and supported you. Inviting friends to participate — by reading a poem, playing an instrument, or officiating — makes the day even more meaningful.

Photography and video are another way to capture authenticity. Instead of overly posed portraits, many couples now opt for documentary-style storytelling that captures laughter, tears, and spontaneous joy. The goal isn’t perfection — it’s preservation of the feeling.

A celebration that reflects you

Couples are also using weddings to reflect shared values. Some choose sustainable celebrations with local flowers, reusable décor, and farm-to-table menus. Others highlight causes close

Even the attire can tell a story. Some brides wear vintage gowns passed down through generations, while others choose bold colors, sneakers, or beachy barefoot looks. Grooms are stepping beyond black tuxes, opting for linen suits, bowties, or even tropical shirts that fit their wedding vibe.

The heart of the day

At the end of the day, personalization isn’t about trends — it’s about heart. Your wedding should feel like you from start to finish. Whether that means a barefoot ceremony in the sand, a ballroom bash, or a cozy gathering in your own backyard, the best weddings are the ones where guests walk away saying, “That was so them.”

So as you plan your big day, remember: you don’t have to do it all, and you certainly don’t have to do it like everyone else. Focus on what brings you joy, tells your story, and celebrates your love. Because when you put more of you into your wedding, you create something timeless — not just a perfect day, but a perfect reflection of the life you’re beginning together.

Planning the Perfect Honeymoon

After months of wedding planning, it’s finally time to focus on something just for the two of you — your honeymoon. Whether you’re dreaming of tropical beaches, snow-capped mountains, or a cozy bed-and-breakfast close to home, a little planning goes a long way in creating a trip that feels both relaxing and memorable.

Set priorities together

Before you start browsing flights or resorts, sit down together and talk about what kind of experience you both want. Are you craving adventure or pure relaxation? Do you want to explore new cultures, hike through nature, or simply unwind by the ocean? Defining your shared vision will help narrow the options and prevent stress later on.

Create a realistic budget

Your honeymoon doesn’t have to break the bank. Decide on a budget early and allocate funds for the most important elements — like accommodations, dining, and special excursions. Consider setting aside a little extra for unexpected expenses or spontaneous splurges. Many couples now use honeymoon registries, allowing guests to contribute to travel experiences instead of traditional gifts.

Timing is everything

While it’s traditional to

leave right after the wedding, that’s not a rule. Some couples find it more enjoyable to wait a few weeks or even months to decompress, save up, or travel during a better season. A “mini-moon” — a shorter getaway right after the wedding — can be a perfect option until you take your longer trip.

Choose meaningful experiences

The best honeymoons aren’t about luxury alone; they’re about connection. Take a sunset sail, share a cooking class, or explore a hidden trail together. Incorporate moments that reflect your personalities as a couple — whether that’s

ziplining through the rainforest or sipping wine by the fire.

Don’t

overplan

It’s tempting to pack your itinerary full, but leave room to slow down. Build in downtime for lazy mornings, spontaneous adventures, and quiet moments together. Sometimes, the best memories come from the unplanned parts of the journey.

Capture the memories

Take plenty of photos, but don’t forget to be present. A few journal notes, ticket stubs, or souvenirs can help you remember not just where you went, but how you felt. Your honeymoon marks the first chapter of married life — a celebration of love, adventure, and shared dreams. With thoughtful planning and a focus on each other, it can be the perfect start to your forever.
