Prime Minister Netanyahu: Acceptance into OECD is a Great Day for the Country
US President Barack Obama announced the nomination in of a Jewish woman to the Supreme Court. he nomination of Solicitor General Elena Kagan would position the court to have three female justices for the first time. The source spoke Sunday night on condition of anonymity because Obama's decision on who should replace retiring Justice John Paul Stevens had not been made public. The president was expected to announce his choice at 10 a.m. local time Monday in the East Room of the White House. Kagan must be confirmed by the Senate, which is dominated by Democrats. With 59 votes, they have more than enough to confirm her, but are one shy of being able to halt any Republican stalling effort. The power to nominate Supreme Court justices is one of the most important roles that presidents have. The nine-member court wields enormous power over the daily life of Americans, and any justice can cast the deciding vote on matters of life and death, individual freedoms and government power. Presidents serve four-year terms, while justices have tenure for life. Supreme Court confirmation hearings are often highly partisan exercises, and although Republicans have shown no signs in advance they would try to prevent a vote on Kagan, they are certain to grill her in confirmation hearings over her experience

This is the third time in recent years that a group of rabbis gathered to visit the Temple Mount, and the event has become a tradition since the 40th anniversary of Jerusalem’s liberation. The rabbis visited the site after davening Shacharit at the Kotel. Earlier, the rabbis immersed themselves in a mikveh, and were careful to walk only in areas permitted by halacha on the Temple Mount. The El Har Hamor organization and the Temple Mount Heritage Fund, which organized the event, explained its purpose: “An expression of the deep bond with the holy site.” The organizers added, “It is also of significance in terms of public awareness. The presence of rabbis visiting the site together

“This is a great day for Israel and for the economy”, Netanyahu said after the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) unanimously accepted the Jewish State as a member. The Palestinian Authority suffered a rare political loss in its unsuccessful bid to thwart Israel’s bid. srael had been concerned that Norway and Sweden, which strongly support Palestinian Authority demands for becoming a new Arab state within Israel’s borders, might try to block the Jewish State’s bid, but they sided with other member nations in favor of its entry. The OECD stated, “Israel’s scientific and technological policies have produced outstanding outcomes on a world scale.” Israel’s acceptance is another feather in the Prime Minister’s “economic hat” that he has been wearing since being Finance Minister in the Sharon government. He won wide praise for bringing the country out of the economic doldrums and into a
