Right now, my 1.5 year old son. Kids are a combination of innocence and doing whatever they want. If he doesn’t like something for dinner...he stares in my eyes and without blinking throws it on the floor. The number of times i metaphorically want to do that in life is insane.
WHAT’S ONE ICONIC BEAUTY RITUAL OR PRACTICE YOU SWEAR BY?
I would say sleep because I believe that’s it, but for me that isn’t happening atm. I swear by colonics and fasting. I am a big fan of We Care Spa’s practices as well as my Colon Therapist Shannon at Your Organic Edge.

I GOT A RED LIGHT THERAPY TREATMENT AT MAJESTY’S PLEASURE — BUT HOW DOES RED LIGHT EVEN WORK?

I have tried almost every beauty tool imaginable. Kansa wand? Yep. A tool that literally prints foundation onto your dark spots? Yes. Even an at-home laser that costs significantly more than any shoe I own? Check. While I absolutely love all my tools in their own special way, the one I keep running back to as if I’m in a soap opera is my red light LED mask. It’s easy to use, has a host of skin benefits, and can even penetrate through my makeup, meaning I can wear it while answering emails. When I heard that Majesty’s Pleasure was offering a new red light therapy facial at its Flatiron location, I jumped at the opportunity to test it out. Here’s how it went.
Before I jump to the facial, I just want to make sure on the same page re: red light therapy. If you’re even remotely into skincare or wellness, there’s a very good chance that you’ve heard all about the benefits of red light therapy (RLT). If you haven’t, here’s a quick refresher. In short, RLT uses low-level red and near-infrared light to penetrate the skin and stimulate cellular energy production. To get super scientific, red light works to help enhance mitochondrial function, leading to increased ATP (which is basically the energy currency of cells) and a boost in cellular repair and regeneration.
So, what does this mean for your self-care routine? Since RLT helps to improve cell activity, it’s often praised for helping smooth wrinkles, promoting collagen production, and speeding up wound healing. In terms of the rest of your body, athletes often use it to ease muscle recovery and joint pain. There are even some studies that suggest it may help with mood and sleep by regulating circadian rhythms.
But back to the facial. The Majesty’s Pleasure team has seen firsthand the benefits of using RLT on the skin, so when it came time to craft a facial for its NYC space, the team knew they had to include the iconic treatment.
The Lounge Signature LED and Nanodermabrasion Facial uses the Advanced LED System by The Light Salon, the UK’s first LED facial bar. The science is all in the wavelengths, which reaches the deeper layers of the skin where cellular rejuvenation can take place. This device simultaneously delivers Red (633nm) and Near Infrared (830nm) wavelengths to focus light into the cell membrane. It creates a process called cell photoactivation that enhances cell function and activity, with compromised cells being up to 200% more active after treatment. But before red light even touches your face, a Majesty’s Pleasure aesthetician first makes sure that your skin is prepped and polished—literally. The initial part of the facial focuses on deep exfoliation, first using a double cleanse full of PHAs, fruit enzymes, and hydrating extracts to gently lift dead skin cells.
Then, the aesthetician uses a nanodermabrasion pen, which is more precise than a microdermabrasion pen without the pain. Seriously, where a microdermabrasion pen can feel like thousands of little crystals shooting at your face, the nanodermabrasion pen feels painless since it buffs the skin with a flat surface — all you feel is the vibration of the device itself.
After that, the aesthetician then applies an enzymatic mask to make sure your skin is free from any lingering dead skin cells that may get in the way of treatment. This was one of my favorite parts — while the mask worked its charm on my skin, my aesthetician gave me a sublime scalp massage that I still think about even as I write this.
Here’s where the red light comes into play. After applying a Light Salon Boost Hydrogel Face Mask (this is to boost the effects of the red light), your aesthetician will place you under the Advanced LED System for exactly 17 minutes and 40 seconds. According to Majesty’s Pleasure’s Director of Training & Development, Alex Kynigos, it’s the sweet spot that delivers just the right amount of red light for optimal skin results.
During your time under the lamp, you can expect a nice hand and arm massage (or opt out of it if you’re not into that). Afterwards, your aesthetician protects your face with hydrating and moisturizing products, before applying SPF to prep you for the NYC elements.
So, what do the results look like? The Lounge Signature LED and Nanodermabrasion Facial at Majesty’s Pleasure left my skin super soft, radiant, and pretty sculpted, too, since there’s so much facial massaging involved. Immediately after the facial, I did experience a bit of redness, but that’s just because the nanodermabrasion device oxygenates the skin — the redness went down in under an hour, which is record time for my sensitive skin.
Throughout the course of the day, the effects seemed to seep in more and more, leaving me with a glowing complexion that looked flawless. In fact, my skin was so dewy that I didn’t even use my typical glowy primer before doing my makeup for dinner — and I still got compliments on my skin. All in all, it’s a short 50 minute procedure that’s relaxing, glowinducing, and has zero downtime — it’s my new favorite facial to turn to for everything from a mid-week pick-me-up to prepping for special events.
