LAST NIGHT OF THE PROMS

Join us for the third annual ‘Last Night of The Proms’ show, produced in-house by the Majestic Theatre team. Featuring the Northern Musical Theatre Orchestra live on stage, along with some special guest singers showcasing both professional performers and the best of local talent.

The first half will feature a varied programme, including a 1940s celebration, a tribute to His Majesty the King’s coronation, and a new Film Music section.

The second half will feature a Songs from the Shows section before the rousing ‘Proms’ finale, taking you through all the classics, including ‘Land of Hope and Glory’, ‘Rule, Britannia!’, ‘Jerusalem’ and more – make sure you’ve got your flags and song sheets at the ready to join in!

This is a fundraising production – all profits will go to the Majestic Theatre to maintain this wonderful venue for generations to come.

THE CARPENTERS EXPERIENCE

When we were young, we’d listen to the radio, waiting for our favourite songs. Now they’re back again, like a long-lost friend, all the song we loved so well.

The UK’s leading Carpenters show, featuring the amazing voice of Maggie Nestor and eight top-class musicians, captures the sights and sounds of the amazing talents of Richard and Karen Carpenter.

Karen’s silky contralto is combined with Richard’s delightful piano and seamless harmonies in this big production that brings Close To You, We’ve Only Just Begun, Top of the World, Rainy Days and Mondays, Solitaire, Goodbye to Love, Please Mr Postman, For All We Know, Only Yesterday and dozens more classic songs to the stage.

HERITAGE DAY

The Majestic Theatre was opened on 17th October 1927 as a Cine-Variety Theatre (housing both plays and moving picture films). It has survived over 95 years and many threats, including being bulldozed to make way for a new Car Park!

Come along and learn more about the history of this wonderful building in the heart of Retford, this Heritage Day.

Our wonderful team of volunteers would be delighted to welcome you, for you to go on

a tour, look through our extensive archive of theatre history and maybe even see some live performances on stage.

The Majestic is very proud to support Heritage Day, and we hope that you will join us to see why we are proud to be Retford’s jewel in the crown!

JIVE TALKIN

Renowned as the original and very best Bee Gees tribute show, and THE ONLY Bee Gees tribute show that has actually performed with the original Bee Gees! In 1997 Gary & Darren from Jive Talkin performed LIVE on HEART FM with THE BEE GEES and received great compliments from both Maurice and Barry Gibb. As with the original Bee Gees, Jive Talkin is very much a family affair, with brothers Gary and Darren Simmons taking the roles of Barry and Maurice Gibb, with Darren’s son Jack joining the group in 2014 and taking on the role of Robin Gibb. The guys are supported musically by a four piece band with Lead Guitar, Violin, Cello and Drums, to ensure that every note in every song is just right!

TOTALLY TINA

Come shake a tail feather with the UK’s supreme Tina – Justine Riddoch – and her talented cast.

This breathtaking recreation of a live Tina Turner concert celebrates the golden anniversary of the Queen of Rock ’n’ Roll’s signature tune Proud Mary. Tina’s noholds-barred take on the song established a reputation for fearsome live performances –and those never-ending legs!

Early hits, including River Deep - Mountain High and Nutbush City Limits, were just a taste of what was to come. We Don’t Need Another Hero, Simply the Best, What’s Love Got to Do With It, I Don’t Wanna Lose You and When the Heartache is Over propelled Tina to stadium concert stardom.

Supported by her dazzling dancing girls in sequins, feathers and diamonds, Justine recreates those famed live performances for one night only.

TWIST & SHOUT

who are now (or soon will be) performing on the international stage.

Gift Vouchers

Our Theatre Gift Vouchers are now available in £10, £20 or £50 and have proved very popular since we introduced them. So why not treat a friend or relative to a voucher for that special occasion?

Licensed Bar

We have a licensed bar in the Circle foyer for the use of our Patrons, where drinks are served prior to a show and in the interval. We do run an ‘Interval drinks order’ scheme for you to order your drinks before each show.

Disabled Access

Wheelchair and disabled access to the theatre is available from street level. This access leads straight into the main auditorium.

How to find us

Many visitors have a little difficulty in finding us due to the pedestrianisation of the town centre. We have published a map showing exactly where we are, and hope this will help, but landmarks in our vicinity are Kings Park, ‘The Old Police Station’ Bar & Restaurant/Kings Park Hotel and Asda Superstore, should you have any difficulty. There are signs directing visitors to the Theatre on the main roads into Retford. The car park at the rear of Wilkinson’s is very accessible from Arlington Way (town bypass). It is only about 300 yards to the Theatre. The Postcode for the theatre is DN22 6DX..

The Majestic is indebted to all the work undertaken by our Volunteers, who organise and run every aspect of the theatre. Without their total commitment our Theatre could not continue. If you would like to help, in any small way, helping with numerous tasks, stage work, electrical and sound, box office, bar, cleaning, front of house etc. we are always pleased for any help, however small. Car Parking

We very much regret that there is very little car parking space available in Coronation Street, although there is a little for the Disabled. There are car parks in Chancery Lane (DN22 6EU), West Street (DN22 6ES) and New Street (DN22 6EG), which are quite near the Theatre.
