bienvenue a Maison Venu

Welcome to the home of Maison Venu, conceived by Olivia Bienvenu Massie. We believe that textiles have the power to transcend memory. Maison Venu weaves together heritage craft, family roots, and modern design. Loosely translated from French – “maison” meaning house and “venu” from the weclome greeting bienvenue and our founder’s middle name – our name represents the stories our patterns bring to life. We create pieces that start conversations, infuse personality, and offer sanctuary in the home.

Abstract botanicals, envelope-pushing color combinations, and the celebration of traditional hand craftsmanship abound in our 2024 design additions.

Leaning into the use of ancient textile techniques and pairing them with original motifs and designs is a practice I will continue to prioritize this year. Building off of our Marseille embroidery, we will introduce new techniques to interpret botanicals, geometrics and intriguing design details. Screen printing, block printing, crewel work and loop embroidery will also be leveraged across the new collection of designs. I am passionate about paying homage to timeless textiles of ages past and will utilize traditional handcrafting techniques to interpret modern design sensibilities.

trade program details

Launching a Fabric By The Yard component of Maison Venu was part of the plan from the beginning. Olivia spent the 7 years before launching Maison Venu as a mill designer, designing upholstery and decorative woven fabrics for decorative brands like Schumacher and Kravet lines, manufacturers such as Lee Industries and Highland House, and retailers such as Serena & Lily and Restoration Hardware.

Olivia’s emphasis as a textile designer has revolved around designing original wovens, prints, and embroideries. With this experience, the collection is thoughtfully designed for the design trade’s use, keeping repeat, scale, and color at top of mind.

our roots

At Maison Venu our mission is to reimagine art. We are collaborators, creators and storytellers. Marrying interiors and fine art, we design and produce thoughtfully curated textile pieces that add interest and character to any space, particularly the home.

We follow a custom fabrication process working closely and directly with specialized artisans from all backgrounds. At every step from conception to completion, we create truly unique and artful textiles.

The intentionality of our products stems from our process. Every step is carefully executed by hand: the designs are hand drawn, the yarn is hand spun, the loom is set up by hand, the base cloth is hand woven, the dye is hand mixed, the pattern is hand printed, the quilt is hand stitched, and the cloth is hand embroidered and stitched. Our process eliminates corporate interference between designer and consumer while glorifying the concept of slow-manufacturing. We believe good things take time –and we are designing something special that will last.

Design is personal. In a market where design feels increasingly detached, Maison Venu aspires to connect artists and buyers. We create products that tell a story and are meant to transcend generations.

meet Olivia, founder & creative director

Maison Venu founder Olivia Massie conceived the brand from a love of textiles, print craft, and a deep rooted personal connection to fabric. After completing her degree in textile design at the University of Georgia, Olivia moved to Jaipur, India, to pursue her interest in the history and creation of textiles and to gain a better understanding of the artisan techniques and processes behind the work.

In 2018 Olivia joined the design team at a textile mill and converter in New York City. With five years of experience working across teams with luxury textile and furnishings brands, Olivia started laying the groundwork for what is now Maison Venu.

For Olivia, patterns and textiles are the backdrop of her most powerful childhood memories. These special recollections along with her experience in textiles and relationships built in India weave together to create an inherently personal, passionfilled brand. Through Maison Venu, Olivia seeks to celebrate traditional artisan techniques with modern design sensibilities. She offers her audience a luxury product that can be a conversation starter, the backdrop to life’s memories, and a beautiful design layer to one’s home.

fabric by the yard

Inspired by real and imagined flora and fauna found across India’s landscapes and woven within vintage textiles, Olivia focused her attention on building a range of patterns and colorways that are sophisticated yet whimsical, bold yet with layering capabilities, and a collection at large that resonates with the Maison Venu brand identity. The launch of Fabric by the Yard and the patterns within this first collection – Marguerite, Bahti, Leyla, and Tuileries – celebrate Maison Venu’s commitment to producing fabrics that are joyful not only in their color and pattern but also in the visible care taken in their production seen and felt in person, interacting with the finished material.

Bahti is a large-scale floral pattern inspired by Olivia’s love of historic Batik motifs. Batik is both a term used to describe a type of fabric and a historical manufacturing technique culturally oriented to Indonesia, the Middle East, and India. Defining characteristics of Batik fabrics are pale patterns featuring tropical flora and fauna on a colorfully dyed substrate. Maison Venu’s Bahti is an eye-catching large-scale floral pattern that features a sweeping all-over design of leaves and flowers articulated through artful lines and bold color combinations.

A sophisticated large-scale botanical stripe, Tuileries is reminiscent of lush European gardens in springtime. A beloved pattern of the brand since inception — first launching in January 2023 in the form of finished pillows and napkins — Tuileries has transcended the Maison Venu brand across tabletop and decorative product offerings. Available in 7 colorways with the option of adding embroidery, Tuileries is a hand screen-printed design.

Margueritte is a block-printed botanical vine pattern available in eight colorways. The imagined leaf-like floral blooming across the undulating vine was inspired by arid gardens in southern India. Margueritte is a mid-scale whimsical pattern that was designed to be leveraged as a visual focal point or a layer easily paired with other patterns and textures across an interior.
