Hollerich venue Exit07 celebrates “vakanz doheem” with a series of concerts, exhibitions and events throughout August.
T
he fourth edition of Exit07’s Congés annulés programme features an exciting line-up of live music as well as other events. “We will try to include as much as possible during the week from Wednesday to Sunday,” says programmer Marc Hauser. “We will have concerts, showcases, screenings, a record fair and different types of activities.” The season works really well and Hauser is always pleased to see new faces coming to the venue – inside the CarréRotondes cultural complex – for the first time. “People discover the venue during the summer and then they come back later in the year. If people want to see live music in August, they basically have to come to Exit07. I mean den Atelier puts on three or four gigs but most of the other venues are on holiday.” The cancelled holiday season begins on Friday 2 August with a concert by young British group Blaenavon, about whom Hauser is particularly excited. gests), are all very young and the band has existed for less than two years. Yet they are garnering some excellent reviews for singles such as ‘Into The Night’ with comparisons being drawn with Wild Beasts and their ilk. The following evening Exit07 welcomes US band Moon Duo, whose “chemically treated krautrocking” (Pitchfork) is a real delight. Featuring dreamy organ and fuzzy guitar riffs, the duo of guitarist Ripley Johnson (from Wooden Shijps) and keyboard player Sanae Yamada have received some justifiably great reviews for albums Mazes and last year’s Circles which NME described as “a full-blown Death Star”. Also on the bill is Canadian band Austra, fronted by the charismatic Katie Austra Stelmanis, formerly of Galaxy and a guest singer on Death In Vegas’s Trans-Love Energies album. Stelmanis has a striking voice that has been described as “theatrical” and it is the perfect instrument to top the “warm,
