I think that we are experiencing an historic moment in the history of Guerlain. It is one of the great changes I have brought since I arrived in 2002 and I hope I can continue to be proud of it. W hat w ill you remember about these 18 0 years of history? 'These 18 0 years are really summed up by the expression 'the roots and the w ings'. We know where we came from, who we are and at the same time we have to fly even further and to continue to look ahead. We must never be prisoners of our past. Picasso worked in the same w ay: he spent a long time looking at the old masters, copying them, observing them , to then create his own painting. We are driven by the same principle. This company is rich w ith great expertise and is also capable of taking great risks. Risk has always been part of the history of the company and w e encourage audacity. The very competitive environm ent of perfume and cosmetics doesn't allow us to rest on our past successes. There's not point moaning about a situation that has noth ing to do anymore w ith the reality of the market. We must be the best and stand out w ith our creations. We must also accept new habits and customs such as the difficulty of developing the loyalty clients who are today very inclined to ‘move around'. We try to work in an innovative way and excel in anti-ageing and moisturizing care w ith products like L'Orchidée impériale which is in line w ith the history of our work with natural products, of our high level
