MIFID

KPMG: keeping a finger on the pulse On 7 February 2006, KPMG hosted a MIFID Conference at the Philharmonie, Luxembourg, with special guest speakers from the EU Commission and the CESR. Photos: David Laurent

Key industry players from banking, finance, and investment funds attended KPMG’s MIFID (Market in Financial Instruments Directive) Conference at the Philharmonie. KPMG took the initiative to raise awareness by inviting the public plus members of the CESR (Committee of European Securities Regulators) and the E.U. Commission to kick-start working towards a concrete application of the new Lamfalussy Directive II of February 6. “MIFID is more than a compliance issue. It offers opportunities,” said Nathalie Dogniez, KPMG Partner. “It will have a significant impact on the way the market functions.” “MIFID is harmonizing investor regulations in the E.U.,” said Vincent Heymans, also a KPMG Partner. “It offers increased investor protection and liberalisation. Capital markets will have greater transparency, a more harmonised execution and be more efficient.” This will increase the competitiveness of the European Economy. “We have set up an international working group on MIFID. Regulations take time and resources and can be costly to implement. The market recognizes the quality of our support. This conference represents our role as having our finger on the pulse.” || M. C.
