Filming Technique
By Maisha Rahman
Over the Shoulder Shot: Is filmed just above the persons shoulder and shows the person they are opposite to. It is commonly used in one-to-one conversations between two people. 2 thirds of the main characters shoulder/back in the camera shot and the other person only 1 third. This helps the audience be aware of what the person is looking at, the characters point of view, connecting the audience and creating a clear understanding of what is happening. The audience is able to see the other characters facial expression an body language to what the main character is saying or doing. This strongly connects to the 180 degree rule because this is also used as one of the shots to represent continuity. Combining both these techniques helped me film, so that I am able to capture the shot accurately for the scene.
