volunteers started the Maidstone River Festival to celebrate the River Medway and the part it has played in Maidstone’s commercial success and county town status. Industries like brewing and papermaking thrived from the river’s position and the waters provided power to keep them going. Today the riverfront is often referred to as the ‘Jewel of Maidstone’ for its leisure and historical value and it has recently been ‘getting a polish’. Now, more than ever, it needs to be shown off! River Festival day focuses on the boats, raft centre of town. This year Lockmeadow town square has been restored and there will be performances on a stage there all day and into the evening, and food and drink aplenty at Love Food.
Take a stroll along the river banks and enjoy the entertainment the businesses will be putting on, looked at the dressed up boats and chat to the boat owners. We raise funds for Heart of Kent Hospice through the Raft Race and have chosen two fabulous local charities, Making a Difference to Maidstone (MADM) and Young Lives Foundation (YLF) as our charities on the day. activities on our website www.maidstoneriverfestival.com and on our social media with more details.
