Dear Readers,
South Asian weddings are vibrant, emotional, and deeply rooted in tradition. They are moments where generations gather, rituals unfold, and love is celebrated in all its grandeur. I’ve always loved how our weddings honor connection — but I also believe it’s time we reexamine what they say about us as women.
For centuries, rituals like kanyadan — the “giving away” of the bride — have been seen as sacred. Yet, when we pause to reflect, the notion that a woman’s worth or identity transfers to her husband is not just outdated, it’s disempowering. We are not gifts to be given, or possessions to be passed on. We are individuals with our own dreams, voices, and power.

Some love stories begin with sparks—others with shared textbooks and late-night study sessions. For Cynthia & David, it all started on the first day of law school. “David was one of the first people I met,” Cynthia shares. “We quickly became friends, and halfway through that first year, we started dating. Eight years later, here we are.”
There wasn’t a single “aha” moment for Cynthia— it was a series of small, meaningful gestures that built a solid foundation. “He’d surprise me with coffee during finals,” she recalls, “and he met all thirteen of my ‘immediate’ family members just a few months in.”
True to their low-key and heartfelt style, the proposal was private and deeply personal. A few days before Christmas, they took their dog to a holiday light show drive-thru and sipped hot chocolate as they admired the displays. Afterward, David pulled over at a quiet beach and popped the question. “It was simple, sweet, and so us.”
When planning their destination wedding, Cynthia knew finding the right planner would be key. After meeting with several, she and David connected with Jennyfer of Beloved Planners. “She just got it,” Cynthia says. “She took our inspiration photos and sometimes vague ideas and created a truly beautiful event.”
For her bridal look, Cynthia stayed true to tradition. “I always pictured myself in red,” she says. “Growing up, that’s what I associated with being a bride.” Her red lengha was both meaningful and timeless.
Their wedding ceremony was a heartfelt fusion of cultures, held beneath an elegant mandap overlooking the ocean—a perfect reflection of their shared journey and blended traditions.
One of the biggest hits of the celebration? The music. With a fusion wedding that brought together two cultural backgrounds, Cynthia and David wanted everyone to feel at home on the dance floor. “Our DJ nailed it,” she says. “The energy was incredible—everyone danced all night.”

Daytona Beach, FL
Nirali & Darshak met in September 2021, the modern way—on the Indian dating app Mirchi. She had just moved to Dallas, and he lived in Detroit, but their long-distance connection felt anything but distant. “It was effortless,” Nirali recalls. “We shared the same values, loved travel and food, and he consistently showed up for me.”
Darshak planned the perfect proposal in Dubai, one of Nirali’s favorite cities. With the Burj Khalifa glowing at sunset, Bollywood songs playing, and a private rooftop dinner, he got down on one knee.
“It felt like a Yash Chopra movie,” she says. “It was the Bollywood proposal of my dreams.”
The couple originally planned a five-event wedding weekend in October 2024 at the Hilton Daytona Beach Oceanfront Resort. But just two days before celebrations began, Hurricane Milton struck, forcing a full cancellation. “It was heartbreaking,” Nirali says. “But our friends, family, and vendor team were incredible.” They rescheduled for May 2025, and the dream wedding came to life with even more love and gratitude.
Nirali’s bridal look was rooted in tradition. “I always wanted to wear red,” she says. During a shopping trip to India, she found her lengha—the very first one she tried on. “I knew it was the one when I saw my family’s reaction.”
Of all the wedding memories, the first look stands out. “I was above him, quietly walking to our photo spot. When I tapped him on the shoulder and he turned around—it was a moment I’ll never forget.”
Her advice for future brides? “Stay true to what feels right for you and your partner. It’s easy to get overwhelmed, but focus on what really matters— celebrating your love.”

Payal & Elvis’s love story is full of heartfelt moments and surprises, culminating in a vibrant Indian wedding set against the stunning backdrop of Punta Cana’s turquoise beaches.
The journey began in 2014 when they started dating, and from early on, Aruba held a special place in their hearts. On their first Christmas together, Elvis gifted Payal plane tickets to Aruba—turning their dream vacation into a cherished memory. Fast forward eight years, and Elvis planned the ultimate surprise: a proposal at the very same romantic beachside restaurant where their first vacation began. On June 22, 2022—exactly eight years after they first dated—Elvis got down on one knee as a photographer “captured” the moment, with the Caribbean sunset lighting their path toward forever.
Planning a destination wedding was a natural fit for the couple, especially with Payal’s experience as a wedding coordinator. The team they chose made every detail seamless, from their travel agent’s expert guidance to their wedding planner, Luisa’s flawless execution at Dreams Macao Beach Punta Cana. Payal’s hair and makeup artist kept her glowing despite the Caribbean heat, and the DJ flawlessly curated the soundtrack for every event, blending cultural beats with island vibes.
When it came to her bridal look, Payal surprised herself by embracing red—a traditional wedding color she hadn’t worn before. A friend’s discovery of a stunning lengha from India sealed the decision, and Payal radiated elegance in a look that was both traditional and true to her.
What truly stood out to guests was the immersive cultural experience. For many of Elvis’s family, it was their first Indian and destination wedding. Over three days, guests enjoyed vibrant ceremonies, lively dancing, and a delicious fusion of Indian and Caribbean flavors. Payal and Elvis crafted an atmosphere where everyone felt like they were on a joyous vacation rather than just attending a wedding.
One moment forever etched in Payal’s heart was her walk down the aisle, carrying a framed photo of her late father. As a prayer was said in his honor, a sudden Caribbean rain shower felt like a beautiful, spiritual blessing—turning a bittersweet moment into one filled with love and presence.

When Umbar & Yash first crossed paths as 18-year-old freshmen at the University of Florida, their shared passion for dance quickly sparked a connection. As co-captains of the GatoRaas dance team, their bond deepened, but their journey toward marriage wasn’t without challenges. With Indian, Pakistani, and Panamanian roots intertwining, they navigated complex family dynamics over ten years, patiently earning blessings from both sides.
Their decade-long journey culminated in a magical proposal in August 2023. Yash led Umbar on a serene hike to an intimate cave where sunlight poured in, just so illuminating the moment as he asked for her hand. Weeks later, surrounded by family, they celebrated their nikkah ceremony, marking the official beginning of their life together.
After just eleven months of planning, Umbar and Yash brought their vision to life with a breathtaking four-day fusion wedding in colonial Antigua, Guatemala. The festivities began with “Infinite Blessings,” a baraat on a hilltop overlooking the city, where Guatemalan drummers set the rhythm and the couple exchanged pheras against a backdrop of ancient volcanoes.
Day two, “Party in Pana,” whisked 120 guests to Lake Atitlán. A “love boat” cruise offered explorations of local villages, coffee and chocolate tastings, and a lakeside sunset dinner before returning to Antigua’s vibrant streets. The highlight was “Dancing in the Moonlight”—a sangeet held at the historic amphitheater La Ermita de Santa Cruz. Over 200 guests danced under the stars to electrifying beats, capped by a surprise fireworks show perfectly choreographed to John Summit’s “Shiver.”
The grand finale, “Happy Ending,” featured a heartfelt civil ceremony at Convento Capuchinas, followed by a lively parade through Antigua’s cobblestone streets with drummers and saxophonists leading the way. The reception at La Casa de la Ruina Santa Rosa dazzled guests with surprise dance performances, emotional speeches, and a wild “Hora Loca” celebration complete with playful props and bobblehead cameos of Bad Bunny and Lionel Messi. A golden sparkler exit sent the newlyweds into an after-party that lasted until dawn.
Not quite ready to end their adventure, Umbar & Yash capped their celebration by conquering Volcán Acatenango, a symbolic summit to their decade-long climb to matrimony—proving that the most breathtaking views come after the hardest climbs.

In a world of apps and swipes, Neha met her groom, Darshak, the old-fashioned way—through a matchmaker. “It felt like talking to a trusted friend,” Neha says. “It made the whole experience feel safe, intentional, and exciting.” By their third date—an idyllic hike in New England complete with chutney sandwiches—she knew he was someone special. And after their first international trip together, exploring Hungary and Portugal, she was sure: this was it.
The proposal, true to their story, was thoughtful and surprising. On a rainy day in Boston, Darshak lured Neha out with a clever fake brunch “bet.” As they strolled through a park, he began reflecting on their favorite memories—despite the threat of frizz. Then she spotted the photographer, and the moment became unforgettable. “Right there, in the drizzle, he dropped to one knee,” she smiles. “It was perfect.”
For their wedding, the couple chose Cancun—a location that offered ocean views, rich colors, and strong support for South Asian celebrations. With the help of their planner, they handpicked vendors via Instagram, piecing together an unforgettable multi-day destination wedding. Their ceremony was held under a tropical mandap by the sea, with the ocean breeze and crashing waves creating a cinematic backdrop for their vows.
Neha wore a bridal lengha with deep family roots—first worn by her mother over 45 years ago and passed down to her sister. “It’s a piece of our family history,” she says. “It felt right to honor that.”
From Holi on the beach with all ages joyfully playing in color, to a pastel-themed reception that felt like “walking into heaven,” every detail reflected their personalities and cultures. The sangeet, designed with a sunrise color palette, featured energetic dances lovingly choreographed by friends and family. And thanks to DJ USA and DJ Shaarad, each event had its own musical heartbeat.
For Neha, the best part? “Realizing what a great team we make. Planning this together taught us so much about each other.”

For Divya & Neal, planning a destination wedding meant more than just stunning views—it was about creating an unforgettable experience for their closest friends and family. Set in the heart of Mexico City, their wedding was a vibrant fusion of tradition, color, and community, set against the rustic charm of a historic hacienda.
The couple wanted a venue that was as unique as their story—something spacious enough for all events in one location, while still feeling intimate and full of character. Their planners introduced them to a colorful, open-air hacienda just outside the city, and it was love at first sight.
The proposal, true to Neal’s creative spirit, unfolded over their shared ritual of chai and New York Times crossword puzzles. He spent months coding a custom puzzle shaped like a question mark, hiding the words “Marry Me” diagonally across the grid. On a rainy Saturday in Brooklyn, he handed Divya the puzzle, and by the time she solved it, Neal was down on one knee. Back at his apartment, friends and family waited to celebrate the moment.
Their wedding in Mexico City was a joyful fourday adventure steeped in love and spontaneity. The ceremony was a riot of color—vibrant florals, natural wood textures, and a yellow hacienda backdrop. Neal led a lively baraat, beaming at the sight of loved ones dancing behind him, while Divya’s entrance was equally heartwarming, filled with waves and joyful greetings. They even exchanged personal vows, adding an intimate twist to their Hindu ceremony. The evening reception glowed in green and gold, elevated but relaxed. Specialty cocktails, an incredible DJ set, and non-stop dancing set the tone. The night ended with a hilarious twist—without a cake knife, Divya used a cocktail stirrer to cut the cake, and guests eventually dove in hands-first. One of their favorite photos? Their sisters were eating cake straight from the platter.
From Sangeet dance parties to handwritten vows, every detail was infused with intention, joy, and just the right amount of chaos. Divya’s advice to future destination brides: “Be great hosts, expect the unexpected, and don’t take anything too seriously.”

Set against the historic beauty of the Arizona Biltmore in Phoenix, AZ, Kritika Dubey and Neil Majmundar’s wedding was a masterclass in elegance, personal touches, and pure joy. The couple’s celebrations spanned an unforgettable weekend — beginning with a lively karaoke party and poolside drinks on October 24, a vibrant sangeet on October 25, and culminating in their ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception on October 26, 2024.
Kritika and Neil’s love story began as a friendship, blossoming into something undeniable. The proposal was intimate and meaningful, a perfect reflection of their bond. From the start, Kritika knew she wanted her wedding to feel like “them” — elegant, timeless, yet uniquely personal. With her mother and sister guiding her, she chose a classic red lengha for the ceremony and a navy blue reception gown for a modern twist. Every detail, from décor to music, was crafted thoughtfully, resulting in a weekend that felt cohesive and celebratory.
“The most enjoyable part of planning was making it our own,” Kritika shared. Guests couldn’t get enough of the joyful energy, from heartfelt ceremony moments to hours of dancing on the reception floor. Two moments stand out for Kritika: exchanging letters with Neil on the morning of the wedding before their first look, and the electric atmosphere of the reception dance floor — pure joy in motion.
