AN UPBRINGING
Bevy Cat Café is General Santos City's first cat café The café serves coffee and snacks while providing a space for visitors to interact with cats It is situated at Pendatun Ave fronting Police Station 1 & Fire Station, near Oval Plaza, Brgy North, General Santos City The café’s primary customers include students, young professionals, and families
Initially, the café struggled with low visibility due to its location To improve, its owners Ma'am Darlen and her friend slash business partner decided the café to be moved to a location near schools and downtown, capitalizing on the foot traffic and proximity to a student-heavy population. This change helped attract more customers, especially students looking for a study spot a space to relax.

At Bevy Cat Café, visitors are welcomed to a cozy place with various activities In an interview we had, the owner, Darlen Joy Morales, shared that they keep updating the café to meet guests’ needs Since it’s close to schools, many students visit to study, relax, or spend time with friends The café offers board games, K-pop albums, books, and charging ports for those who need them Ma'am Darlen also mentioned that they add new food items and small changes often to keep the café fun and fresh for everyone.
The café initially offered a Korean-inspired menu but later added Filipino options based on customer demand “Pinoy tayo e,” as said by the owner This mix of Korean and Filipino flavors provides choices suited to the customers’ tastes
As General Santos City’s first cat café, Bevy Cat Café established a position for itself, offering a unique experience for visitors It's a must-visit destination for anyone seeking a unique café experience in the city

"ENTREPRENEUR IS SOMEONE NA MAIDENTIFY MO YUNG NEED AND THEN ANG OPPORTUNITY AND THEN IKAW YUNG MAG TAKE RISK TO CREATE A BUSINESS TO MEET THAT NEED AND THEN MANAGES ALL ASPECTS NG ISANG [BUSINESS] “
Long before she opened the doors to Bevy Cat Cafe, Ma'am Darlen Joy Morales knew she wanted to create something special. Reflecting on her entrepreneurial journey, she recalls, “High school pa naisip ko na maging entrepreneur,” and that she always aspired to own a restaurant, never envisioning herself as an employee. In high school, tasked with baking and selling baked goods, she found motivation along with her friends to continue baking and selling for a cause “Binebenta namin siya actually for a cause

Meron kaming kaklase na hindi nakakapasok lagi because walang pamasahe,” she shares. Their sales went toward helping a classmate who faced financial struggles with transportation costs, a simple yet heartfelt gesture that planted the seed for a purpose-driven career
As she grew older, her passion only deepened. Her journey in the entrepreneurial world began immediately after she graduated. She started a baking business, initially without an official name,

then worked and launched another venture, this time officially named SheBrews. With a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management, she gained first-hand experience as a barista, a cake shop manager, and, eventually, a business counselor for the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). Working in these roles, Darlen mastered the ins and outs of the industry, from coffee brewing and customer service to marketing and operations.
For Darlen, though, entrepreneurship is more than just creating a business; it’s about recognizing a need and taking the risks necessary to fulfill it. “For me kasi entrepreneur is someone na maidentify mo yung need and then ang opportunity and then ikaw yung mag take risk to create a business to meet that need and then manage all aspects ng isang business,” she explains. Inspired by this philosophy, her love for coffee, and her fondness for cats, she saw an opportunity to bring something new to Gensan’s market with Bevy Cat Cafe. Her cafe became a warm, unique space where people can unwind in the company of feline friends, embodying her vision of a business that offers both comfort and connection. Through Bevy Cat Cafe, Ma'am Darlen embodies the concept of entrepreneurship as a meaningful endeavor that centers around community.
