Growing up in Hagerman Valley P 4, 8
“THE WINTER MOON OVER HAGERMAN VALLEY”
The Moon illuminated the night sky and lit up the white powder covering the ground. Snow came once in a while staying on the Hagerman Landscape. As a young girl about 14 years old the white wonderland on the ranch was memorizing. One night, not being able to sleep and looking out our big picture window in the family farmhouse living room, the moonglow showcased a beautiful scene.
Whimsically putting on warm socks and boots and a few layers of clothes, topped with a wool hat and pulling on mittens, I quietly opened the front door to be met by frosty air, hoping that my family would not awaken. Our black cockapoo named "Freeder" slipped out the door following me into the night. This was an adventure for one who lived on the safe side of life. Our farmhouse sat on the top of a hill and on one side the road sloped distinctly downhill. The full moon beckoned me on down the hill toward Billingsly Creek winding below. The crunch of the snow beneath my boots and the silent scene was one of fairytales. Freeder's paw prints softly skimmed the snow as my little pooch companion seemed to relish the out door nighttime play time. She seemed to communicate this is something new!
As we wound down the sloped road past the haystack tipped with frost, I spotted off to the left the lambing sheds with steam rising from the pot belly stove fire keeping the little wooley ones warm. My mind was filled with wonder. The creek sparkled as the moon seemed to dance on it's surface. A hoot owl occasionally called out from the row of poplar trees edging

the other side of the creek. The canyon wall ahead was an eery yet majestic backdrop for the shimmery moon to reveal.
My imagination took on a life of its own as the clear night sky revealed what seemed like a million stars. What road would unfold for me as my life would travel beyond this place? The winter night sky and the full moon seemed to shine into my heart hope for things to come. As the cold air did not escape my nose and cheeks, this walk was short lived yet exhilerating.
Soon softly opening the farmhouse door with my little dog companion scrabbling in beside me to get warm, we were safely inside. Snuggling back into my warm bed she staked out her favorite warm spot in the family room.
With all of the family still fast asleep, the winter moon watched over the Hagerman Valley and the ranch that I loved. This scene would remain in my mind and heart forever.
Years later this memory inspired me to write the following poem called:
“Winter Moon” by Cheryl Sandy (2001)
Winter sets in with a chill
The night is perfectly still.

With the New Year upon us, and as we are making our New Year’s Resolutions, we can make changes in our handwriting to improve our lives. By changing your handwriting, you can retrain your brain.
Examples:
If you are having trouble concentrating, write smaller. Try it! As you write smaller, you will feel yourself concentrating. Do it consistently — and there you go!
If you are feeling insecure and unsure of yourself, make your T-bars higher on the stem and firmer. This will give you more confidence to carry through and get the job done.
And, if you are feeling depressed, your handwriting is probably slanting in a downward direction. And some of your letters are falling over. To put yourself in a better frame of mind, stay focused on writing straight across the paper. And, keep your letters straight, not falling over.
For more info on handwriting analysis, I recommend Bart Baggett, a world reknown handwriting expert, a questioned document and forensic document examiner. And he also teaches classes on becoming a graphologist. Write on! www.Bartbaggett.com
And may your New Year be rich with Blessings.
Change your handwriting, change your life...

Jerome County Commissioners: Idaho’s Current Water Laws Are the Path Forward.
Water has long been a defining feature of life in Idaho. Jerome County is known for its agriculture industry and dairy processing, so that need for a reliable water supply is always at the forefront of our and our constituents’ minds. But this valuable natural resource is so critical to all that it is the center of an ongoing and contentious debate.
Since this spring, Idaho has been thrust into the national headlines and daily local reports over the pitting of senior water right holders against junior water right holders. Arguments have ensued over our water reserve, primarily the Eastern Snake Plain Aquifer, and who has the right to how much of it.
As representatives for both surface water and groundwater users, we have found ourselves shifting through the rhetoric, listening to both sides’needswhile analyzing the data and science. And while both groups have legitimate concerns regarding agriculture requirements and the longevity of the Aquifer, we find ourselves aligning with the principle that guides us all – the rules and laws of the land
We believe we must look to our state Constitution to find a positive and collective path forward for all Idaho water users.
Idaho’s prior appropriation doctrine is a tried-and-truepolicy that has guided our great state for centuries. Our very first water rights go all the way back to around the 1860’s when Idaho was just a territory, when the first to ask for the water was the one to receive it. By statehood, water allocation was enshrined to be “first in time, first in right”. This helped every farmer, rancher, and agriculture producer know in what order they would receive their waterfrom the Eastern Snake River Plain Aquifer (ESPA).
Fast forward 100 years and technology has changed how we get that water. The invention of the water pump created a new method to retrieve the resource. Here in modern day Idaho, we are experiencing significant growth, leading to an increased demand for water across the board. Prolonged droughts, weather variability, and changing precipitation have further strained both surface and groundwater resources as water levels drop to near historic lows in the ESPA. This had resulted in rising tensions between these two groups of water users.
For those of us on the periphery, we need to understand the conflict between these two stakeholder groups is actually bornfrom the same issues. Surface water users fear diminishing flows, while the groundwater users are concerned about restrictions at the pump.
All water usersare essentially worrying about the future –each is concerned about their share of thewater resource and how to maintain their livelihoods; how to ensure their future generations have something to inherit, a resource to rely on.
This time, we believe the best path forward is not the road less traveled; rather, it is via the path we’ve always been on. Idaho’s current law lays out how water is best conjunctively allocated, in a way that ensures... More online: https://wp.me/pecT8b-WH

IDAHO
REPRESENTATIVES 4 Districts: 24, 25, 26, 27
Our 15 Idaho State and Federal electeds, can freely share their information with the Magic Valley as they see fit. Each article starts here and continues on the MagicValleyNews.org
US SENATOR MICHAEL CRAPO: IDAHO’S SPIRIT OF FREEDOM. Idaho, home to more than 119,000 veterans, is brimming with a sense of duty to our country and a deep respect for those who have backed our freedoms with their lives. Every November since 2002, I have had the great opportunity to honor some remarkable Idaho veterans and volunteers for their outstanding service to our country and its veterans with the Spirit of Freedom: Idaho Veterans Service Award. The 15 veterans and volunteersrecognized this year with the Spirit of Freedom Award are yet another reminder of the Idahoans, many unrecognized, who ensure our country’s spirit of freedom is never dimmed.
Those awarded this year range from a World War II Veteran, who served as reinforcements for troops fighting during the Battle of the Bulge and earned honors for his outstanding service that include the Bronze Star, to a U.S. Navy-commissioned medical student who was instrumental in making a hangout at an Idaho veterans home “safe and fun” for veteran residents. The honorees include a Vietnam War Veteran who after experiencing how the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., helped him cope with the trauma of the war worked to bring a replica of the Wall to the Treasure Valley to provide that opportunity to local veterans and their families.
Another awardee is a restaurant owner who serves veterans through providing second chance employment opportunities at his restaurant. And a veteran who served decades in the U.S. Air Force, including in the highest enlisted rank attainable at an Air Force Base, has been a staunch advocate for veterans, including his co-founding of the Idaho Veterans Olympics. A complete list of the 15 recipients of the 2024 Spirit of Freedom Award follows, and summaries of their service and the service of past Spirit of Freedom Award recipients are posted on my official website, www.crapo.senate.gov/about/spiritof-freedom
Veterans organizations across Idaho nominate the awardees, and I thank them for taking the time to bring these goodworks to our attention. This year, those organizations include American Legion Post 113; Bannock County Veteran Services; Idaho Army National Guard Chaplain Corps; Idaho Veterans Assistance League; Idaho State Veterans Homes in Boise and Lewiston; Mission43; a Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Past District 5 Commander; VFW Post 4000; andVeteran Readiness & Employment. If interested in submitting nominations for the 2025 Spirit of Freedom Service Award, please contact Courtney Lehosit in my Boise office, (208) 334-1776.
We can be immensely proud of the commitment to serving others that is a point of unity across our great State. Over the years, I have noticed that many of the those nominated for Spirit of Freedom Awards are veterans who continue to serve fellow veterans, military families and countless others in their communities. Other awardees come from military families, where commitment to country and service were instilled at young ages. Others simply want the opportunity to spend time with and help those who have put our country before themselves. When the actions of those serving others in our country are witnessed by others, this spirit of freedom grows, and we are beyond fortunate.
Veterans: Dan Gandy, Pocatello; Dave Howerton, Boise; Donald (Don) Lawrence, Lewiston; John M. Martinez, Twin Falls; Benjamin McDonald, Kuna; Chad Rohr, Boise; Ed Samuel, Boise; Spencer Sawyer, Meridian; Bobby Doyle Tettleton, New Plymouth;
Volunteers: Earl Coffman, Pocatello; Mike (MJ) Jennings, Boise; Tammy Sue Mikan, Boise; Travis Polek, Asotin, WA; Tom Ressler, Meridian; and Kevin Urlaub, Boise.
