Bajamar

La costa queda a unos 10 kilómetros del casco y es donde La Laguna tiene su pequeño pero atractivo tramo de mar: las localidades de Bajamar y Punta del Hidalgo, en las que puedes aprovechar y darte un baño en sus piscinas naturales. Saldrás como nuevo. Si aún tienes ganas de más, no te muevas de la costa. El sol ha hecho especial amistad con esta cara de la Isla y la puesta de sol es descaradamente bella. Lo mejor, sentarse en algunas de las terrazas de los restaurantes que hay en la zona y degustar un buen pescado fresco al atardecer. No debes perderte una visita a los miradores que hay en el Monte de las Mercedes. Tienen las mejores vistas de la ciudad.

Solo un consejo antes de que la visites: La Laguna es una de las ciudades más frescas de Tenerife, incluso en verano. Lleva siempre un jersey. Especialmente recomendable es el sendero que, dentro del monteverde baja desde Cruz del Carmen, (donde se encuentra el centro de visitantes y el mirador), hasta Punta del Hidalgo Joya ecológica

Como zarpas de un gigante dormido. Así se extienden los grandes acantilados del macizo montañoso que alberga el Parque Rural de Anaga y al que se llega por la carretera TF-12. En este espacio natural vive uno de los tesoros más valiosos de toda Europa, el bosque de laurisilva de la época terciaria. Una vegetación virgen que se empapa del mar de nubes que reposa en ella casi los 365 días del año. Puedes adentrarte en el bosque del Terciario por alguno de los senderos que lo recorren, y parar en alguno de los restaurantes de la zona. Sirven una carne de cabra y un puchero canario deliciosos. No olvides pedir vino del país.

Taganana

Si sigues la serpenteante carretera llegarás a la costa, donde encontrarás varios pueblitos aislados, como Taganana. El encanto de este lugar está en su atractiva playa, el abrupto paisaje que la rodea y los pequeños restaurantes que allí se concentran, donde se pueden comer los mejores platos de la cocina canaria. Te recomendamos que pidas pescado, lo cocinan muy bien.

Punta del Hidalgo

The coast is about 10 km (6.2 miles) outside the city itself and houses La Laguna’s small but stunning seaside areas: Bajamar and Punta del Hidalgo, where you are welcome to take a dip in their natural pools. A good soak will leave you feeling good as new. And if you’re looking for what to do next, stay right there! The sun has a special bond with this side of the Island, creating outrageously beautiful sunsets. The best thing to do is take a seat at one of the area’s restaurant terraces and tuck into some fresh fish while watching the sun drop into the sea. And don’t miss the view from the lookout points on Monte de las Mercedes. The sight of the city below is a real treat.

Before visiting La Laguna, we have one piece of advice: It is one of Tenerife’s coolest cities, in every sense of the word. Make sure you take a jumper, even in summer.

We especially recommend you take the trail which, surrounded by laurel forest, takes you from Cruz del Carmen (where you will find the visitors centre and lookout point) down to Punta del Hidalgo.

An ecological jewel

Like the claws of a sleeping giant. This is a simile you might use to describe the great cliffs of the mountain range that houses Anaga Country Park, which you can drive to on the TF12. This natural area is home to one of Europe’s most valuable treasures: a laurel forest that dates back to the Tertiary period. Its untouched vegetation is bathed in a blanket of clouds practically all year round. The forest has been christened El Terciario in honour of the era it belongs to. You can venture into its depths along one of many trails and call in at a nearby restaurant. They serve fantastic goat’s meat and a delicious Canarian stew. Don’t forget to order some local wine to wash it down.

Taganana

If you follow the meandering road down, you will reach the coast and its various secluded villages, including Taganana. The charm of this village lies in its fabulous beach, steep sloping landscapes and small restaurants, where you can savour some of the Canary Islands’ finest dishes. We recommend their beautifully cooked fish.

Sus calles adoquinadas invitan a explorar el corazón del pueblo, sus iglesias y construcciones históricas. Garachico rompe clichés: ¿quién dijo que alguien no puede resurgir de sus cenizas? La erupción del volcán de Trevejo, que lo devastó casi por completo en 1706, solo sirvió para reconstruirlo aún más bello y encantador que antes. Garachico está ubicado en el noroeste de la isla de Tenerife, donde ocupa 29,28 km2 dentro de la comarca de Icod-Daute-Isla Baja. Más de la mitad de su territorio está cubierto por pino canario, paisaje volcánico y un antiguo acantilado que separa el casco histórico de las medianías. Garachico posee un rico patrimonio arquitectónico de los siglos XVI y XVII muy bien conservado, por lo que fue declarado Bien de Interés Cultural en 1994. Además, posee el título de Villa y Puerto, concedido por el rey Alfonso XIII en 1916. En la zona

de costa de este municipio se encuentran fincas extensas dedicadas al cultivo del plátano, mientras que en medianías se encuentra una agricultura de autoconsumo con pequeñas propiedades. Cuenta, además, con un puerto deportivo de reciente construcción junto al casco histórico, que convive con playas de callaos y arena negra y pequeños acantilados. Cabe destacar las piscinas naturales de El Caletón, una de las zonas de baño más populares, y el imponente roque que se alza frente a su costa. Tras la conquista de Tenerife, Garachico se convirtió en el principal puerto pesquero y comercial de la isla hasta que una erupción volcánica lo destruyó. Esta época dorada atrajo a numerosas familias de gran influencia, lo que se vio reflejado en el trazado de sus calles y en la arquitectura de sus edificios.

Its cobbled streets invite visitors to explore the heart of the town, its churches and its historic buildings. Garachico is a living legend: who said it’s impossible to be reborn from the ashes? When the Trevejo volcano erupted in 1706 it destroyed almost the entire town, but what that meant was an opportunity to rebuild it even more beautiful and charming than before.

Garachico lies in the north-west of Tenerife in the region of Icod-Daute-Isla Baja, covering 29.28 km2 (11.3 sq miles). At least half of that area is covered with Canarian pine trees, volcanic scenery and an ancient cliff that separates the historic quarter from the hills.

Garachico has a wealth of architectural heritage from the 16th and 17th century which has been kept in won-

derful condition, leading it to be declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in 1994. It was also granted the status of “Villa” (which is roughly equivalent to the British status of Borough) and Port by King Alfonso XIII in 1916. On the coast of the municipality there are several vast estates with banana groves, whilst the farmland on the hillsides was mainly used to supply the families who farmed it. The town also has a recently built marina by the historic quarter, as well as a series of beaches made of pebbles and black sand, and various cliff faces. Special mention should be made of the natural swimming pools of El Caletón, one of the most popular bathing areas, as well as the impressive rock formation rising from the sea in front of them.

Barranco del Infierno

El Sendero.

Esta excursión de senderismo nos llevará aproximadamente unas tres horas y media, entre la ida y la vuelta, y el recorrido total será de 6500 metros aproximadamente. Con una dificultad media-baja, es recomendable para el trayecto disponer de calzado adecuado para terrenos resbaladizos y pedregosos.

Flora y Fauna en una reserva natural especial. Entre la fauna vertebrada podemos contar con más de 40 especies localizadas. El grupo de las rapaces que se pueden observar sobrevolando el lugar está representado por el cernícalo común, el aguililla, el cuervo y el gavilán entre las aves diurnas y de las nocturnas cabe destacar al búho chico que aprovecha las oquedades del terreno para establecer sus nidos.

The trail.

We will start from the higher part of Calle de los Molinos, following the old pastoral trail. We´ll pass a series of viewpoints, some hives and an old mill and as we move forward we´ll walk along the riverbed of the ravine which will narrow towards the inside until its vertical walls will seem to close above the walker.

Flora and Fauna in a special nature reserve.The vertebrate fauna consists in over 40 established species. The predatory group that can be seen overflying this place is represented by the common hawk, the eagle, the raven and the sparrow hawk among the diurnal birds and among the nocturnal ones the small owl stands out, it takes advantage of the hollows in this place to build its nest.

That’s when I fell in love with wellness, I started this path creating from the advice of a Spa, to the management and operation of it. Lo que más disfrutas de tu trabajo.

Los clientes y el ver en su rostro esa tranquilidad que transmiten cuando acaban sus tratamientos o salen del circuito de nuestros spas. También disfruto con mi gran equipo, son personas entregadas y apasionadas como yo y eso hace que el trabajo conjunto sea aún más satisfactorio. Has obtenido recientemente varios premios. ¿cuáles han sido? ¿Cómo te has sentido al recibirlos por tu labor?

Los premios obtenidos últimamente son:

● World Luxury Spa Awards a nivel mundial para nuestros spas Roca Nivariay Best Tenerife.

● Los Gánigos a través del cipsur.

Ambos premios los hemos recibido hace poco, esos son unos de los muchos premios que hemos obtenido a lo largo de nuestra trayectoria, de la cual estamos muy orgullosos y con la que deseamos seguir avanzando y obtener muchos más, ya que eso significa que estamos haciendo las cosas muy bien y que vamos en la dirección correcta. Me siento muy orgullosay agradecida por ello.

I love being with the clients who visit us, advising them and teaching them the benefits of all our personalized treatments. We have recently received both awards, these are some of the many awards that we have obtained throughout our career, of which we are very proud and with which we wish to continue advancing and obtain many more, since that means that we are doing things very well and that we are going in the right direction. I feel very proud and grateful for it.

En la actualidad alrededor de 12 spas y creciendo. Recientemente, hemos inaugurado dos nuevos spas, en diciembre el Tabaiba Princess, ubicado en Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Maspalomasy en febrero de este año en Lanzarote el Spa Asana Mynd Yaiza

How many spas do you currently have?

Currently about 12 spas and growing. We have recently inaugurated two new spas, in December the Tabaiba Princess, located in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Maspalomas, and in February of this year the Asana Mynd Yaiza Spa in Lanzarote.

Para descubrir la magia de La Laguna hay que andarla. Aparca el coche y camínala. Sin quererlo, los pasos te llevarán al centro, a su conjunto histórico, declarado Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la UNESCO en 1999. Todo un orgullo para los laguneros. Desde aquí puedes empezar visitando su imponente catedral, que acaba de ser reabierta tras un largo proceso de rehabilitación que la ha dejado preciosa. Otro de los emblemas de La Laguna es la torre de la Iglesia de la Concepción, hasta donde puedes subir para divisar unas de las vistas más especiales de la ciudad. En la oficina de información turística de la calle de la Carrera te darán toda la información que necesites. Desde ella parten las vías más populares: las de la Carrera y Herradores. Si quieres conocer de cerca cómo es la arquitectura colonial que inspiró a muchas ciudades latinoamericanas, pasea por ellas. Puedes hacer un alto en alguna de las cafeterías y tascas que hay por

todo el centro y picar algo. Es lo mejor para reponer fuerzas. Paradas obligadas en su visita son el remozado y coqueto Teatro Leal, el Instituto Cabrera Pinto, la Casa Lercaro, el convento de Santa Catalina o el Museo de Historia de Tenerife, en el que podrás conocer de primera mano la historia de la Isla y que junto a otros muchos edificios, conforman un reducto cultural que imprime a La Laguna un aire erudito y elegante. Si lo deseas, en la oficina de información turística ofrecen visitas guiadas por el casco histórico. Puedes elegir entre varios itinerarios temáticos que recorren los edificios más emblemáticos. Pero aún hay más. El punto vanguardista lo ponen cada año los miles de jóvenes que viven en esta ciudad, también universitaria. La zona del cuadrilátero, junto a la Universidad, es su lugar de encuentro. Calles plagadas de pubs y cafeterías para no salir hasta que echen el candado.

To discover the magic of La Laguna, you have to be on foot. Park up your car and get ready to walk. Your steps will inevitably lead you to the historic quarter in the city centre, which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999. This is a source of great pride for the locals. Why not start by visiting the majestic cathedral, which was recently reopened after a long refurbishment process that has left it in sparkling condition.

Another symbol of La Laguna is the Iglesia de la Concepción tower, which you can climb to the top of to get fantastic views of the city. You will find all the information you need at the tourist information office on Calle de la Carrera. This is one of the most popular streets in the city, together with the adjacent Calle Herradores. Take a leisurely stroll down these two picturesque streets to get a taste of colonial architecture close-up. You can stop at any of the cafés or restaurants dotted about the city centre for a drink or a bite to eat. You will need to recharge your batteries to keep on exploring.

Other unmissable attractions include the refurbished and quaint Leal Theatre, the Cabrera Pinto Institute, the Casa Lercaro, the Santa Catalina convent and the Tenerife History Museum, where you will learn all about the Island's past. The museum, together with a whole host of other buildings, make up the city's cultural wealth andconfer it with an erudite and elegant air.

Guided tours of the historic quarter are available from the tourist information office if you are interested. There are a number of themed options to choose from that will take you around the various emblematic buildings. But that's not all! This university city is filled with youngsters every year, giving La Laguna a youthful, vibrant feel. Their favourite meeting place is the area known as El Cuadrilátero, right by the university. Its streets are lined with bars and cafés that are buzzing until closing time.

El Museo Municipal de Bellas Artes cuenta con catorce salas que albergan obras datadas desde el siglo XVI hasta el siglo XX. El edificio es clasicista y fue construido a comienzos de 1929 por el arquitecto Eladio Laredo.

El exterior está decorado con 10 bustos de tinerfeños ilustres, entre los que destacan Teobaldo Power (músico y compositor), Ángel Guimerá (poeta y dramaturgo), Juan de Iriarte (gramático y literario), Antonio de Viana (poeta), Villalba Hervás (historiador), Bethencourt y Molina (ingeniero) y Valentín Sanz (pintor).

Los primeros objetos resguardados y conservados fueron las banderas ganadas en 1797 en la batalla contra Nelson. En 1840 el Ayuntamiento mandó realizar sendos cajones para conservarlas. Esta iniciativa fue el origen del museo. En 1933 comienza la rehabilitación del actual edificio, hasta entonces los fondos artísticos del municipio fueron expuestos en el salón de sesiones del Ayuntamiento. Algunas de las obras más nota bles que se pueden encontrar en este museo son el “Tríptico de Nava y Grimón” del pintor flamenco Pieter Coecke; “San Andrés” de José de Rivera; “Orfeo” de Bueghel; un retrato de la Reina Isabel II de Federico de Madrazo y de Fernando Viscaí, de Joaquín Sorolla, entre otros. También se concentra una importante representación de artistas canarios como Gaspar de Quevedo, Cristóbal Hernández de Quintana, Juan de Miranda y González Méndez. Entre sus actividades destacan las visitas guiadas al propio museo y al patrimonio de la ciudad (Santa Cruz Monumental, Plazas y Alamedas), presentaciones de libros, ciclos de conferencias y audiciones musicales.

Museum located of the metropolitan area of Tenerife. The “Museo Municipal de Bellas Artes” (Fine Art Museum) contains fourteen exhibition rooms, which hold works dating from the 16th to the 20th century. The building has a classic design and was built at the beginning of 1929 by the architect Eladio Laredo.
