This is a STEMM education building aiming to provide a researching field that responds to a critical issue nowadays.

Meanwhile, the relationship with academic and public shall also be taken into consideration.

to provide a large scale and flexible environmental simulation field where testing elements and criteria can easily be adjusted. The intention is to decrease the experiment limitation and raised the outcome precision.

After research, one of the present challenges is how to achieve FOOD SECURITY for a population anticipated to exceed nine billion by 2050. Unfortunately, food crises can be aggravated due to the expected increase in the frequency and intensity of extreme environmental events such as floods, drought and thermal shock in the foreseeable future. For example, wheat yields are estimated to drop by up to 50% if the global temperature rise 4°C.

With this field, the institute has two goals: (Research) The first one is to create agriculture catalogue and guidelines for future reference. (Public) The second one is to shorten the distance between public and food resilience issue. Interactive and less formal channel is the way this project approaches the general audience.

Currently, most of the researches linking environmental changes and food are relatively constrained due to inadequate ways to test and evaluate new agriculture practice or breeds. The relevance and scope of food resilience research is insufficient. Responding to this problem, The Institute of Food Resilience, is going

One of the channel is the Tasting Labs.

They are experimental dining space that invite audiences to taste new foods at the ingredients' growing condition. For instance, a kind of lettuce might only be able to grow in super-hot condition. The tasting lab for it will then be set up to be matching the heat. The goal is to raise the awareness of the relationship between food and our surrounding, but in a more interactive and direct way.

The project's program organisation follows the process to create food resilience in terms of environmental changes. As so, environmental simulation field is the core value of our project with various labs supporting it.

As shown in the diagram above, successful experiments will be documented into the Future Food & Environment Handbook (FF&E) for future guidance. At the same time, the outcome will be introduced to the public through series of experiential workshops to raise awareness of the relationship between food and our environment.

A channel will be connecting the natural elements (Water, soil, and sky), and the simulation field. The link is then pull vertically to create interaction channel that run through three groups of occupants. The slope of the channel is responding to the layer of intimacy, determining the way of connection. The lower part, where the slope is gental, is a physical connection for the public; The upper part of the channel, where the slope is almost vertical, is the visual guidance for the public. As for the researchers in this building, the voice, light, and the view of the sky embraced by the channel is meant to break the enclosure of science conversation and emphasize the relationship between real-world and the research happening here.

This is a project questioning the initial intention of heritage preservation. What are we actually trying to preserve? The objects? Or the place?

From object to place, the metamorphosis is a gradual accumulation fertilized by Relationship weaving and interaction.

Through the process, these fragmented parts can regain their value as ‘Place’ in new fields. Acting as the link between the present and the past, but also as the physical connectivity supporting the new.

‘PLACE’ can be considered as a field that contains multi-sets of relationships. These sets of links are relative connections allowing people as the medium, to flow and weave the ‘Local Fabric.’

JOBWAREHOUSE as one of the participants of “THE PLACE,” doesn’t stand alone in the context. However, for any restoration, preserving the integral value of a heritage is an illusion. The project believes that once the relationship a heritage once rooted is broke, changed, or displaced, its value as 'the Place' is no longer the same.

When its integrity is lost, its preserved parts are back to the status of object while symbolising the past.

The project questions the importance of heritages' tangible appearance; Explores the way audiences interact with the past; Articulates the volume preserved, and defines the role of connectivity within place formation. The goal is to open a discussion among heritage preservation while providing a mix-used building that contains gallery, offices, microbrewery, and commercial activities. A place where the old and new can be fulfilling each other, with same tangible elements, but intangibly difference.

Looking beyond the tangible elements of JOB, a survey and interview is conducted. The intention is to find the connection between locals surrounding this building. By overlaying them, it creates a 'Local Fabric,' a web of community attachment, which is weaved by the motion of people.

Usually, he will go to Pellegrini twice a day for coffee, Morning and after lunch A3. Because there is no toilet in the bookshop, he has to barrow it from Pellegrini. However, instead of the main front entrance, he will enter the cafe through the back, where staffs usually smokes

Anthony the Wanderer C1. Anthony usually comes to this area because there is free food at the Salvation Army across the street C2. Anthony likes to go through the bins to find any useful resources C3. He tends to occupy one of the tree in front the paperback bookshop as a temporary shelter. The tree as the base point, he kinds of wander along the street

For instance, cracks on the wall, cluster of bins, ornament, and the peeling-off-paint. The tilted old roof structure is forming the in-between commuting area shared by two offices. The old elements act as the necessary connection across the new built. Responding to the role of ‘connectivity‘ within the transformation from object to place. An sharing area linking two occupants, embracing the old, the context, and the new function

TECTONIC PYSICAL MODEL The in-active part of the heritage building are casted with resin externally, Internalizing how people used to remember this building. For instance, the cracks, the peeling-off paint, the graphic carved on the wall, become the protruding part of the new wall. Creating tactile impression and atmospheric texture for visitors to experience. Meanwhile, because of the transparent material, and the contrast between protruding and decreasing part of the wall, during the night, with internal light, it creates a ghostly image of the past. This transparent fantan of the memory is supported by the skeleton-liked structure externally, which extended and infused into the new built as the structure of the stair and handrails. This is a move questioning the tangible appearance of heritages.

1:200 BUILDING PYSICAL MODEL The fragmented objects from the past are now forming the necessary connection across the building, maximising the frequency people interact with it. By displacing the parts that have been remembered by casting, they become the symbolization of the past, supporting the formation of the new place. Also, redeveloping itself in the new context. It is a move challenging the tangible integrity of a heritage and the role of connectivity within place formation. A channel which starts from the ground floor, where these old parts are originated and ends at the rooftop (gallery), takes audience through the gradient of the fragmentation, in which the old parts eventually become too fractured to be nurtured back to be a place again. It becomes the artifacts being contained in the gallery.

This is a healthcare and community centre that sits within a micro and slightly isolated forest that supports nurturing and self-re-engagement. It also aims to implant a healthy lifestyle into the community. As so, one of the reverse briefs, aquaponic farm is introduced.

The building, which is partially embedded into the landscape, is protected from the disturbance of the busy Boundary Road by the protruding part acting as a buffer. Meanwhile, decreasing part is acting as a container for green, activities and potential flood.

The aquaponic farm which consumes less water, will be promoting ‘Eating Healthy.’ It is a response to existing community farm and Australia’s water limitation. It not only plays a major part of the water circulation on site but also creates an image and additional income for the community.

Three main concept principles will be informing this project: Nurturing Journey, Green Intervention, Water and Light Interaction. Meanwhile, the vision of a ‘Valley’ is formed by the relationship

The building is orientated and shaped to embrace sun and wind. One of the measures is welcoming the sunlight from the rooftop reflects it into the treatment room with the water channel supporting the aquaponic farm. In this way, dancing and vital light can be created in the treatment rooms that shall remain private.

After all, this is a healthcare project that aims to cure and promote health while embracing nature.

In this project, the central decreasing surface (the nourishing valley), along with the main building, aim to create a positive relationship between the community and this center. It’s a community healthcare center that values both maintaining wellbeings & curing sickness.

As global warming continue to worsen, sea level is predicted to rise, affecting 1/10 of the global population and about 600 million people' safety. According to research, it only take a 50 cm increase in sea level to gain the force to demolish o u r c u r r e n t e m b a n k m e n t sy s t e m .

Unfortunately, Taipei is a city that cannot avoid this emerging issue. In foreseeable future, they might be forced to confront the flood that used to happen only once every hundreds of years.

The new gateway Combines current transportation and landscape and makes the best value of Taipei's location. In an effort to take this transformation gradually step by step, the project learns from the Mangrove forest along the river in our site.

After studying them, the way the project is going to be constructed are going to be a series of procedures linked with the rising-sea-level stages, taking factors such as time, activities and landscape-change into consideration. The project hope to develop a location, having the capacity to act as a receptacle of water under a safe condition, while embracing the concept of co-watered urban system. Water, instead of being segregated, it becomes the crucial character, which activates and stimulates our future city.

Flood can be tariffing. However, it can also be the key to the project. By twisting the controversial relationship between water and city, the volume of water allows Taipei, the capital city of Taiwan, to have the opportunity to welcome foreign economy.

Embankment deglaciation and water force embracement is crucial to this project.

NEW TAIPEI GATEWAY OVERALL MASTER PLAN The water circulation in this project takes advantage of the natural landscape and the possibility of rising sea level to create a system that will elevate the living quality while facing unpredictable flood.

T h e c u r re nt i s s u e o f G u a n d u area can be solved by the flexible connection of current stream and indeterminate water intrusion.

The power of water can accumulate when it is blocked out of our city.

By introducing it into the mainland, the explosive breaking can be decreased. Moreover, in Guandu, embankment will no longer be the only thing we can see when we search for the river.

OUTDOOR IMPLEMENTATION WITH DRIFTWOODS: MONDRIAN'S TREE DESIGNER / DRIFTWOOD FETCHER / BUILDER This is a project for an exhibition beside the Hsincheng River held by the government of Yilan County. There are two main requirements: Utilising the local driftwood as the main material and connecting the river with the project.

Mondrian's tree is a concept playing with the contrast between the organic shape (Driftwood) and the artificial line. It is a project that faced lots of the construction challenge since none of the driftwood is identical. Different wood provided us distinct beauty along with problems that need to be deal with. Eventually, we were able to take visitors close to the river but at a certain height. Reminding people that no matter how clever we are, there is always a line where we should not challenge.
