Merryn Corcoran returned to Christchurch to launch her third book, The Peacock Room at Sammezzano Castle, at the inner city Crossing. The evening included fine wines, a reading by her daughter Emily (producer of the Stolen movie), as well as documentary of the Castle in Tuscany, Italy.

The Christchurch Business Club held a special Melbourne Cup event at the Canterbury Club. The members were all decked out to try and win the best dressed competition, which was judged by leading fashion guru, Denyse Saunders, with Jim Thorpe winning for the men and Sharla Hill for the women.
