“With our wide range of plans and custombuilt solutions, we have a building to suit your requirements in material and style that will do the job, look the part and last for decades,” he says.

These sheds are ideal as utility sheds or barns but are also well suited to being customised to housing standards to make beautiful homes. They offer a lot of space through the addition of an extra floor or mezzanine level.

“When comparing our products and service with our competitors, bear in mind our company has been around since 1965 and we know our way around a shed.” AT

Customers who choose board and batten sheds want a building that is different to standard housing, resulting in many unique homes being built throughout Northland.

Rod Douglas Construction started out making half round sheds, although demand for these sheds has dropped off and have been replaced by the board and batten sheds. “It’s quite a niche market. We mainly do timber sheds and they can be modified and adapted in many different ways. We do lots of different sizes and styles, different pitched roofs and we can do weatherboards on them as well,” Ivan says. “They’re all dressed and tantalised timber. We make them so they stand up to the test of time. We’ve been here for a long time and we like our customers to keep coming back to us to buy another one.”

A unique business premises Rod Douglas Construction recently built a board and battern building with wooden gables for a client to use as a premise for her antique business. “It was modified to suit her needs,” says Ivan. “It features French windows imported from a chateau and some old barn doors that have been refurbished. We catered to the customer’s specific needs and they’re very happy.”

Ivan’s three sons have all worked in the business at times, and helped Ivan build a company that provides clients with products they can be proud of. Ivan is heavily focused on ensuring every building his company builds is built to the highest quality standard, overseeing each job closely.
