ope that your 2015 has started well and that those new year resolutions have not fallen by the wayside!

Going with a wedding theme this month we have a lovely editorial for you introducing two brides, mother and daughter Joanne and Linda, who got married in 2011 and 1975 respectively, it was really interesting to meet them both and hear their stories!

We have some fabulous ideas for you on hen / stag and suggestions for putting together your big day, and a listing of wedding fayres coming up in the next couple of months. As always a tasty recipe for you to follow from Dominic at Belleau Kitchen (who recently made an appearance on the Mel and Sue show!) and VL meets Angela at the Caravan and Horsebox company who offer a unique and very fabulous photobooth facilities to your special day!

We are a friendly group of cricket enthusiasts that play in (this season) Div 4 of the mid Sussex league on Saturday’s, but also hold loftier ambitions.

TWO WEDDINGS

Mother & Daughter 1974 & 2010

M

other and Daughter Joanne Weller and Linda Moses both born and bred in Shoreham West Sussex got married forty years apart… I was interested to see how their experiences differ and what advice they would give to all future brides to be.

Joanne an administrator for Brighton College, met Jonathan a pilot for British Airways through mutual friends in August 2010 and got married in March 2011. They were married at Farbridge Barn in Chichester. Joanne sourced caterers, photographer, music and general help through her venue, and bought her dress locally, with her sister Natasha as maid of honour. She thoroughly enjoyed the whole planning experience, from the invitations to February 2015 • Village Living

choosing the wine which they turned into a family affair. I particularly loved the fact that they bought their wine from a local supplier held wine tasting nights with the family to choose the best wine for their big day, by covering the labels and getting everyone involved in choosing their favourite, sounds like fun! Sharing the decision making is a great way of including everyone and taking a bit of the load off! Joanne had her hen do in London with a dance class, fabulous meal and drinks with friends, and followed her big day with a two week honey moon in Mauritius.

Joanne and Jonathan have recently had their second child, Darcy, and have a son Bailey.

Linda met Ivor in the early 1970’s at the bus stop love blossomed on the number 5! Married in Feb 1975 at St Nicholas in Portslade and are now coming up for their Fortieth wedding anniversary. . Linda followed the traditional saying “Something old something new something borrowed something blue!” She borrowed her dress from her friend, and the bridesmaids dresses she made herself, very much in keeping with 70’s fashion, for her sister in law to be and friend.

Linda doubts that anything has changed since her day when planning a great girls night out before taking the big step, her hen was a meal and a good night with girlfriends in Sherrys of Brighton! After the ceremony they had a good knees up and home catered buffet at their local pub followed by one night in a local hotel. Things were generally more traditional in the early

seventies, society was slightly different and people didn’t necessarily live together before getting married so the wedding night really was something special! Honeymoons were not such a big thing in the seventies and money was generally put towards first home buying which is exactly what Linda and Ivor did. They have had many happy holidays together since and have two beautiful grown up daughters, Joanne and her sister Natasha. To celebrate their forty happy years they are having a fabulous family meal in London and have just booked a holiday in Malaysia.

I asked Joanne if she would change anything about planning her wedding, or if she has any advice to give future brides , she wouldn’t change a thing but would advise any bride to relax and enjoy the whole experience including the planning of the wedding and the day itself! “It’s so very easy to get caught up in detail and miss the fun parts” Linda wouldn’t change a thing, but when asked for the secret to her successful marriage Linda’s advice for the longevity of a happy marriage is “ Patience, friendship, keep up the banter, do your own thing but always make time to do things together, oh and a lil bit of luck! “ Very good advice then and now!

Congratulations to Linda and Ivor on their Fortieth Wedding Anniversary and wishing Joanne and Jonathan many happy years together. Village Living would like to thank them both for sharing their lovely stories.

The first of its kind in the South East, our vintage Rice Horse Box is available to look beautiful at your wedding while also entertaining your guests with a unique photobooth opportunity! What could be cooler?

Both stunning vintage props which create fantastic unique memories of your day. Perfect for country, rustic, or barn weddings, indeed any weddings with an outdoors feel, our Horse Box Photo Booth is an incredible and stunning talking point. With all the same features as Rosie, and with an automated photobooth inside and instant prints, a truly unique photo booth, an incredible back drop to your wedding or indeed any outdoor event. Traditionally, photo booths are stuck in a dark corner but we think an outdoor photo booth can really add a unique buzz and excitement to any event. Our Horse Box Photo Booth is going to cause a real stir during 2015 – a classic Retro Vintage Rice Horse Box – over 30 years old! Painted in a classic Landrover colour, Marine Blue, our horse box is an excellent example of a ‘Rice Beaufort Double’.

Touch-screen photo booth technology – we have installed all the latest, up to the minute, touch screen photo booth equipment and software for a fabulous user experience!

Run by pro-photographers – Gary & Angela Hector have been professional photographers for 12 years, so bring all that knowledge of equipment and lighting and pride themselves on the high quality images captured.

Large interior for big groups – due to its size we can accommodate larger groups than inside our Caravan Photo Booth, possibly up to 10 people at a time!

Collection of dressing up props – regularly updated and refreshed we will provide a wide selection of hats, glasses, signs, moustaches and all things photo booth and silly!

Duplicate photostrips for guest book – we allow you to create a stunning and hilarious guest book by offering your guests duplicate photostrips so they can take one home and add the other to your book with their message to you.

Upload of photostrips to Facebook – so all your friends can tag and share their pictures the morning after the wedding, keeping that buzz going for longer.

A CD of all images taken in hi-res – we will send you a CD of all the hi-res images taken on the night, that is each individual image which could be around 400 in total!

An attendant to ensure smooth running – you won’t just be left alone, we will have an attendant with the booth while it is running to make sure everything is going just fine and you don’t have to.

Smoked Haddock & Sweetcorn Chowder And so to start and also prove that diets don’t have to be boring I’m making this rich, thick and creamy soup, inspired by my visit to San Francisco... to reduce the carbs i’m using cauliflower instead of potatoes to thicken but essentially the recipe is the same as a classic clam chowder although it has a little twist as I can’t get hold of any clams... I’ve also made a very simple veggie version by eliminating the fish but following exactly the same process in every other way...

1 medium onion - finely chopped, 1 medium cauliflower - finely chopped, 2 small leeks - finely chopped, 1 stick of celery - finely chopped, 1 cup of frozen sweetcorn kernels, 450g smoked haddock, 1 pint of vegetable stock, 1 pint of skimmed milk, salt and pepper, fresh thyme Place the haddock in a large saucepan, cover with the milk and fresh thyme and let it gently simmer for 2 or three minutes Let it cool then remove the fish, reserving the liquid. Using the same pan (sans fish and milk) add a nob of butter and a little olive oil and gently saute the onions and garlic until soft, then add the leeks, cauliflower and celery, place a lid on a sweat until all the veg are soft. Add half the cup of sweetcorn, the milk from the fish and a little stock until the veg are covered and let it simmer for 10-15 minutes then blend with a hand-whizzer thingy until just blended. Add the flaked fish, stir with a little more olive oil and let it cool slightly before serving. Eat and of course enjoy!
