Attwater develops versatile new peel ply See Attwater Group on Stand D196 Attwater has found a new use for peel ply to facilitate easier bonding with phenolic cotton laminates. The new development extends an existing product category of peel ply on epoxy glass to include phenolic-based laminates. The aim is to create a product with a top layer which can be easily peeled off to reveal a rough surface, making for better bonding than an as-pressed surface.

The design and development of the PulsR microlight aircraft, including its use of carbon epoxy sandwich production using resin infusion technology, will additionally be discussed by P&M Aviation’s Technical Director and Test Pilot Bill Brooks.

High performance resins and additives at UK Advanced Engineering Show See Hubron Speciality Ltd. on Stand F160 Hubron will showcase CVC’s high performance resins and additives for the first time at the UK Advanced Engineering Show. Representatives from Hubron, CVC’s distributor in the UK, will be on-hand to discuss CVC’s innovative materials, and the performance features these materials can bring to the most demanding composite, structural adhesives and coatings applications.

GapGun gets the measure of A350 See GOM UK Limited on Stand H71 Third Dimension, has been chosen by EADS, the European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company to deliver fully integrated feature measurement systems into European Airbus facilities. The agreement also includes support and management as well as plans to upgrade existing systems within Airbus to the latest technology. Airbus plans to use the GapGun MX+ across a variety of challenging and diverse features on the A350 XWB.

Produced by their advanced Thermo Compression Moulding technique, Foamotive parts are primarily used for medium to high volume components in the Automotive field, such as Wing Mirror gaskets and NVH gasket and seals. The PowerMILL Robot Interface can be used for the programming of robots for a variety of multi-axis machining operations, including patternmaking, modelmaking, trimming and drilling of composite components, and deburring and polishing of metal parts.

A dual purpose fastener designed for the automotive industry See Gesipa Blind Riveting Systems Ltd on Stand F88 GESIPA® Blind Riveting Systems Ltd was approached by an automotive OEM supplier to fulfil a standard fastening requirement. The original need was for a fastener to assemble an aluminium extrusion to the vehicle. The firm’s traditional market for 25 years was almost entirely Automotive based. However, increasing use of carbon composites and aluminium in Aerospace and other industrial processes has led to it diversifying in to higher tech manufacturing sectors where fine dust is a problem.

MecWash measures up to Renishaw’s requirements See MecWash on Stand C55 In July 2013, precision engineering company, Renishaw plc, turned to MecWash to provide a comprehensive aqueous component cleaning system for its new production facility in Miskin, South Wales, following the success of similar installations at its other sites in New Mills and Stonehouse. The company specified a MecWash Midi as part of the manufacturing facility that officially opened in October 2012.

Non-destructive in focus British Institute of NonDestructive Testing (BINDT) to host one hour 12th Nov. session on importance of NDT in advanced engineering.

Next generation zero emission vehicle from Microcab See Coventry University on Stand G18 Coventry-based Microcab’s latest machine – the next-generation H2EV – brings together technical expertise from the automotive and motorsport industries, incorporating a chassis designed by Microcab and Delta Motorsport and engineered by Lotus. The H2EV is powered by a state-of-the-art 3kW fuel cell, combining hydrogen from the pump with oxygen from the air to create electricity in a reaction known as ‘reverse electrolysis’

Contributing organisations include Polymer Composites Research Group, University of Nottingham, Cranfield University, University of Manchester and University of Bristol.

Temperature Controlled Storage Case Study at the NCC Whilst undertaking a major piece of work earlier this year, The National Composites Centre (NCC) needed to keep pre-cured components at a steady specific sub-zero temperature but were short of refrigerated storage capacity. A call was made to refrigeration experts Team Refrigeration and a 20ft aluminium refrigerated container was delivered which was kept on site for 10 months until the project was completed.
