The saying goes ‘never judge a book by its cover’ but those who are honest will agree that we all do it from time to time. We are all guilty of forming opinions on people and products before we’ve given them a fighting chance to prove themselves. When I was told we were testing the new Husqvarna TE449 I wasn’t overwhelmed with enthusiasm; in my mind all we were testing was a rebranded BMW which had been slated by the UK media since its launch in 2008. Husqvarna claimed they had solved the many issues which had plagued the G450X but the proof would be in the pudding, and it would have to be something special to impress me and the buying public. Finn The opening round of the 2011 Indoor Enduro World Championship held in Genoa, Italy was a starstudded event with the likes of Taddy Blazusiak, Ivan Cervantes, Antoine Meo and Joakim Ljunggren in attendance, but it was E2 World Champion Mika Ahola who stole the show.

Despite riding his new oversized 450cc Honda, the flying Finn won one of the three finals and kept a cool head to take the overall victory.

What does the future hold for dirt bikes? With manufacturers struggling to produce machines that meet the strict emissions regulations whilst still keeping punters happy, the future is uncertain for petrol powered machines as we know them. Then again, does the answer lie with electricity? In recent times technology has moved on light years, but have we finally reached a point where bolts and volts can be compared against each other? Some people on the other hand are more conservative; they want to know what to expect in a race situation and are put off from competing because although they are capable they are afraid of the unknown. VIVA LA FRANCE Consisting of past and current world champions, the French Trophy team dominated the 85th ISDE from start to finish, eventually winning by over ten minutes. 2009 E2 World Champion Johnny Aubert, current E1 World Champion Antoine Meo and last year’s overall ISDE winner Christophe Nambotin all featured in the team and ensured that France were once again crowned victorious. Unfortunately the final day of competition was cancelled due to heightened security threats, denying France the perfect end to a stunning week.
