Composite moulders are under pressure to lower volatile emissions, reduce cycle times and offer alternative recyclability, while utilising the same fundamental combination of fibre reinforcement within a polymer matrix.

The solution is to create a thermoplastic surfacing veil by combining a nonwoven and a thermoplastic surface layer into one product. The veil is added as a surface layer to the carbon or glass fibre thermoplastic and thermally bonded.

The project, funded through the National Aerospace Technology Exploitation Programme and managed by the North West Aerospace Alliance, will improve visibility of customer demand and shop floor loading to provide real-time decision support for surface engineering companies.
