Sareska 5 0 a ñ o s / 5 0 y e a r s o ld De madre cubana y padre zamorano, esta habanera de sonrisa perenne canta nanas cuando habla. Junto a sus hermanos, Sareska dejó su Cuba natal con tanta pena como esperanza por labrarse un futuro mejor. Y aquí fue a encontrar ese futuro en otro trocito de tierra cálido bañado por el Atlántico. “Al principio no sabes bien qué te vas a encontrar”, explica. “Pero después de 14 años aquí sólo te puedo decir que me encanta esta isla. Ver el mar hace que la nostalgia sea más llevadera. El Malecón de las Palmas me hace recordar al de la Habana. Me da energía, oxígeno, se me quitan los males”. Esta licenciada en Historia del Arte reconoce que la adaptación fue más sencilla gracias a las muchas similitudes entre las dos culturas. “El canario, como el cubano, es sociable y muy generoso. Igual que el habanero. Además está este clima fantástico y un ritmo de vida muuuuuuy tranquilo”.
Born of a Cuban mother and a Zamoran father, this Havanera with a permanent smile sings lullabies when she speaks. Sareska was sad to leave her native Cuba with her brothers, albeit with the hope of building a brighter future, a future she was to find in another place with a warm climate and bathed by the Atlantic. “At first you don’t know what you’re going to find,” she explains. “But after 14 years here, the only thing I can say is that I love the island. Being by the sea makes the nostalgia easier to bear. The esplanade of palm trees reminds me of Havana. It gives me energy and oxygen, it purifies me.” With a degree in art history, she admits that the adaptation was made easier by the many similarities between the two cultures. “The people here are like they are back in Cuba, sociable and generous. Just like in Havana. What’s more, the climate is great and the pace of life is reaaalllly laid back.”
