Pillars of Islam, Duaas and Tasbehaath (Section 1)

Islam is not only a religion but a way of life for Muslims. Muslims dedicate their lives to Islam by following its teachings and principles.

Islam teaches people to be good and humble. Islam teaches people to care for and look after each other. Islam teaches people to be kind, gentle and truthful.

Make Islam your way of life!

Islam is based on five pillars. This means in Islam there are five very important tenets or things which every Muslims must follow.

1. Shahadah - To believe in your heart and say with your tongue that there is no God but Allah and Muhammed (s.a.w) is his messenger.

2. Salah - To pray five times a day. The five daily prayers are:

Fajr - 4 Zuhr - 12 Asr - 8 Magrib - 7 Esha - 17

3. Zakah - To pay the purifying dues to purify our wealth.

This is given when a person reaches his wealth to the nisab i.e when he reaches to the eligible amount.

4. Sawm - To abstain from eating or drinking from dawn till the sunset. This is known as fasting. Fasting in the month of Ramadan is obligatory upon all matured Muslim male and female.

5. Hajj - To make pilgrimage to Makkah. We must perform the Hajj at least once in a life time if one is able to afford.

The meaning of Kalima Tayyib (1st testimony)

1st Testimony: There is no god but Allah and Muhammad (S.A.W.S) is the messenger of Allah.

Ash-hadu Allah ilaaha illal-lahu wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan Abduhu warasuluh

The meaning of Kalima Shahadah (2nd Testimony)

2nd Testimony: I give witness that there is no god but Allah and I give witness that Muhammad (S.A.W.S) is his slave and his prophet.

Whenever we begin anything, we should always remember Allah. We remember Allah and thank him for the many blessings that Allah has given us. Food is also a blessings from Allah and we should be grateful to Allah for it.
