MAF Biblical Studies Requirements

MAF Biblical Studies Requirements MAF recognizes the necessity for Candidates to have a solid grasp on God’s Word in order that they may be equipped to integrate Scripture into their lives and ministry. 1. Bible courses from accredited Christian colleges or Bible institutes are accepted in meeting the Biblical studies requirements. Most Bible course codes (typically this is a BI, BIB prefix) will be accepted for credit. Please confirm with MAF to make sure that the credits will apply. Missions, counseling, or Christian education classes do NOT meet the requirement. Individuals should check the status of the institution prior to taking a course. 2. Continuing Education Units (CEU’s) in Biblical studies are accepted when taken from an approved provider. CEUs are not credited as a college level course, so MAF gives 1 college-level credit hour for every 2.5 CEUs attained in Biblical Studies. 3. To meet the requirements for Biblical studies, a course must be clearly focused on the content of Scriptures. Ancillary or anecdotal reference to Scripture verses or passages during a course does not qualify it as a Bible course. A representative list of acceptable courses follows: Old Testament Survey (highly recommended) Bible Book Studies New Testament Survey (highly recommended) Teachings of Christ Hermeneutics Major/Minor Prophets Wisdom Literature of the Scriptures Gospels 4. For Theology courses, one 3-hour course is allowed in the 12 hours total. 5. The Perspectives course from the U.S. Center for World Mission is highly recommended and we give 3 credit hours for it whether you take it for college credit or for the certificate. (www.perspectives.org) 6. The following Bible Study classes are also allowed in meeting the Bible Requirement: Beth Moore Book Studies, Kay Arthur (Precepts), and Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) (1.5 credit hours) (2 credit hours) (2 credit hours) Many courses that deal with ministry related topics are of great value, but are not seen as direct preparation for candidates to practice Biblical integration. We expect the candidates to have read through the entire Bible. Candidates are encouraged to verify that MAF will accept the credit/CEU prior to enrolling in the class.
