Choose your location and time, keep your profits! Lemonade stands set up in Arcata will be granted a one-day City-sponsored business license. Pre-register to receive a workbook to use with a mentor in creating a unique, fun & profitable stand.

Lemonade Day is a handson way to teach kids about business and to create the next generation workforce for the North Coast. Lemonade Day is targeted to kids ages 8-13, but is open to all kids under the age of 18. Lantern Ceremony

Float a lantern in remembrance of a loved one.

Rededicate yourself to peace.

The floating ceremony was brought to Arcata over 30 years ago.

The Lantern Ceremony will be in the evening Saturday, August 15.

Gather at Klopp Lake in the Arcata Marsh at the very end of South I Street, Arcata.

Make your own lantern that morning with volunteers and lantern-making supplies at the Arcata Farmers’ Market.

Explore & Adore Arcata

This guidebook offers destinations to explore, challenges to take, and opportunities to see all the beautiful areas of Arcata - all within our backyard! Once you complete at least 7 of the 9 challenges in this book, enter your name into the Explore and Adore Raffle for a chance to win some awesome outdoor prizes from local businesses!

D ownstream D esigns We are seeking local artists to design and paint Stormwater Drain Murals at 3 selected sites in the City of Arcata.

The purpose of Downstream Designs is to draw attention to the usually discreet concrete and iron infrastructure with the hope that observers stop and think about where the water flows after it enters a storm drain. Stormwater flows untreated directly into our urban creeks, streams, and bay. Downstream Designs hopes to increase community awareness of local stormwater pollution, watershed ecology and conservation and encourage all community members to play a role in pollution prevention.

Artist submissions are due May 1, 2015.

All submissions will be included in a gallery show at City Hall for Arts! Arcata on May 8.

Three submissions will be selected, with finished murals to be unveiled in early June. Selected designs will be a part of our Downstream Designs walking tour brochure, promotional stickers and video. $500 stipend included.

Your child will become a Watershed Warrior as they learn about our local watershed through hands-on science experiments, field trips, reflective art and exploration. Participants will have the opportunity to help design and paint a stormwater drain mural on Arcata City sidewalks, helping spread the word on watershed pollution prevention to the community at large.

Location: Arcata Community Center Teen Room, 321 MLK Pkwy.

Ages: 8 to 12 years Days/Times: Thursdays, April 23, May 14, May 28 from 3:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.

Field Trips: Saturdays, April 25, May 2, May 9, May 16 (dates subject to change) Fee: FREE • Limited to the first 20 participants, so register today!

This popular camp teaches real life skills in socialization, leadership and teamwork while exploring the world of nature, art, and cooperative learning in the beautiful setting of Redwood Park. Campers have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of games, art, cooking, fieldtrips, swimming (for Full Day campers) and more!

Groups of 10 campers are assigned to one Leader, based on their age range.

• Half Day campers are placed with other Half Day campers.

• Full Day campers are placed with other Full Day campers.

Free lunches are available for those in need through the Children’s Summer Lunch Program, sponsored

by Food For People.

Full Day: Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Start the summer off with fun in the sun!

Join us as we celebrate the North Coast with aquatic-themed adventures, oceanic crafts and nautical games.

Week 2: June 22 - 26 • Around the World in 5 Days!

Create art projects from around the world, play games from different cultures and experience food from different countries!

Week 3: June 29 - July 3 • Superheroes!

Who’s your favorite superhero? During this action-packed week, campers get to explore their own super powers and create superhero costumes. Wham!! Pow!! Zam!!

Week 4: July 6 - 10 • Making Music in the Park!

Music comes alive in the park this week. Campers craft their own instruments, have a karaoke dance party and compose their own music to perform at “Redwood Round-Up.” Friday, July 10 features our first camp overnighter of the summer!

Week 5: July 13 - 17 • Pirates of the Redwoods!

Ahoy matey! This popular week includes making pirate crafts, going on a huge scavenger hunt throughout Arcata and the always popular “dress like a pirate day!” Arrrrr!

Campers explore the wild kingdom and bring out the wild in themselves by roaming the temperate rainforest of the Arcata Community Forest and creating lovable animal crafts.

Week 7: July 27 - 31 • Out of this World!

Send your space cadet to a week filled with games and crafts not of this world. Campers will master Jedi training and search for U.F.O.s! It’s sure to be a blast! Friday, July 31 features our second and final camp overnighter of the summer!

Week 8: August 3 - 7 • Carnival!

Fun is in the air as campers celebrate summer with carnival-themed crafts and games, all leading up to the ever-popular Annual Camp Carnival!

Week 9: August 10 - 14 • Folklore & Fairytales!

Explore a realm of fantasy and wonder.

Campers use their imaginations to discover new worlds of fun through visionary games and creative crafts.

Week 10: August 17 - 21 • Blast from the Past!

Have a blast telling stories, playing theater games and learning all the fun things to do with stagecraft, all out in the fresh air under the Redwoods!

Anyone with an interest in theater can join and all skill levels are welcome. Campers train their voices and Send your bodies for performance, experiment with improv camper with and learn the basics of set building, costuming, lunch and a makeup for the stage and so much more! Each healthy snack Friday features a camp performance for family every day! and friends! Theater Camp also involves hands-on work with the shows presented by Plays in the Park.

Gain valuable experience in the Leaders-In-Training (L.I.T.) Program!

Leaders-In-Training can choose between 11 different summer camps where they work with youth ages 4 to 14, helping to plan and lead activities, games, field trips, and more! Choose the weeks and camps that work best for you. Half-day and full-day options are available.

What you will gain as an L.I.T.: • Make new friends and have a blast this summer participating in camp activities such as ropes course, field trips, swimming and arts & crafts.

• Gain job experience and references to build a résumé for future jobs.

Gymini Crickets Gymnastics At the Judo Hut, for ages 15 months to 6 years Introduce your children to fitness fun early in life with our trained instructors. Gymini Cricket classes use gymnastics related skills, games and exercises to encourage both physical and social development.

These fun-filled classes include exploration and play with beams, bars, parachutes and more. Each class is age-appropriate with a small class size, ranging from 6 to 8 students, providing each child with attention and detail.

Available classes, based on age: Me & My Helper: 15- 35 months, with an adult Junior Jumpers: age 3 Jumpers: ages 3 - 4 Hoppers: ages 4 - 5 Springers: ages 5 - 6 All classes meet for 45 minutes, once a week.

Gymnasts build strength and flexibility in a noncompetitive, safe environment. The focus is on fun and fitness! Build skills to progress to the next level.

New Student Assessment: With the many levels of gymnastic classes offered, we’re here to help determine the best fit. We take care to make sure your child is enrolled in the most appropriate class with other students of similar age and ability, allowing your child to succeed more easily and safely. Wae Yu Nae Gong Wae Yu Nae Gong (outside soft, inside strong) is a practical and effective martial art that blends Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Kickboxing, Judo, Kung Fu, Kenpo, Hwa Rang Do, Tae Kwon Do, Hapkido, Aikido, and weaponry into a martial arts system that is easy and fun to learn! This six-week puppy class is designed to help puppy owners deal with and understand normal puppy behaviors that can sometimes be overwhelming. You receive tools for solving problems such as digging, chewing, mouthing, and more.

Lessons include: teaching your dog to come, sit, stand, walk on loose lead, interact with people without jumping and “go to your bed.�

R opes C ourse The Arcata Ropes Course, located in the beautiful Arcata Community Forest, is a fun-filled outdoor adventure focusing on team building, skill development and environmental education. Groups work together in challenge-by-choice physical activities to master the arts of strategy, leadership, communication, teamwork, goal setting and time pressures.

Be a Volunteer Trail Steward!

Volunteer Trail Stewards (VTS) is a grassroots program of the Humboldt Trails Council (www.humtrails.org). Stewards serve as community eyes and ears whenever they are out walking, running or riding the trail.

Stewards also call in safety hazards, pick up litter and report camping or inappropriate use but are not the police.

In addition, about once a month Stewards host a Saturday morning work session where volunteers work with City staff on a trail project. This may be brushing back a section of trail, rebuilding a wash-out, removing exotic plants or improving signage. No prior experience or tools are required; the only qualification is willingness.

Additional Information Arcata Plaza Vending Program

To increase public use and enjoyment of the Arcata Plaza, the sale of food and wares on the Plaza was approved by the City Council. This program was created to promote start-up businesses and is designed to offer short-term exposure for new businesses to potentially relocate within Arcata.

Anyone wishing to sell food or goods on the Arcata Plaza must have a current business license, insurance and a valid Plaza Vending Permit.

Permits are valid for 90 days. For more information, consult the Plaza Vending Program Guidelines handout, available at the Arcata Recreation Division office and online at www.cityofarcata.org/rec. Please allow up to 30 days for the application process.

Additional Information Cancellation and Refund / Credit Policy 1. Full refunds will be issued for any activity cancelled by Arcata Recreation.

2. All cancellation requests must be submitted in writing to the Arcata Recreation Office at City Hall. These requests may be handdelivered or mailed (736 F Street Arcata, CA 95521), emailed (rec@ cityofarcata.org) or faxed (825-2118). Refunds will be granted after any “Household Balance Due” has been paid in full. Refunds and credits will be computed from the day the request was received. Refunds will be issued by mail within 10-14 business days.

3. For all Camp Programs, full refunds will only be granted when your written cancellation/transfer request has been received in the Recreation Office at least one week prior to your registered week of camp. This gives us the opportunity to fill the vacant spot. For our Summer Camp Programs we offer a non-refundable $25 deposit per week option. In order to maintain your child’s enrollment, payments must be received in full one week prior to each registered week of camp. If payment is not received by the required time, the spot will be made available to the next child on the waiting list. Please be aware that you are holding a valuable spot. Only register for weeks you plan to attend.

4. Exceptions to our refund / credit policy may be granted by completing a Request For Refund Form. A $10 service fee per enrollment may be assessed.

5. Refunds/ Credits are not given for individual days missed.

“Make-Up Days” are not offered.
