Founded on the Christian principle of the dignity of the human person, Madonna’s mission is to serve students and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and autism, providing them with a foundation to achieve their full potential at school, work, home, and in the community.
Madonna consists of five programs serving students and adults with mild to moderate intellectual and developmental disabilities, and autism:
• Inclusive Elementary Education for grades PK-8
• Secondary Education for grades 7-12
• Transition for ages 18-21
• Project SEARCH for ages 18 and older
• Adult and Employment Services for ages 21 and older
Each program combines academic, career, and life skills training both in the classroom/agency and the community—where skills are practiced and mastered. We build students’ and clients’ confidence and celebrate their successes—preparing them for a lifetime of maximized independence.

Welcome to the Celebration Gala 2024!
Welcome to “Coming Home Celebration 2024!” As we considered this year’s theme, we decided to build on last year’s theme which focused on the construction of Madonna’s new campus. A year later, Madonna is now ready to “come home” to its new beautiful facility. It is so exciting that Madonna will be able to expand its education, transition, and adult programming in a larger physical space, while keeping alive the same goals and spirit Sister Evangeline established that have been carried on throughout the years.
However, this theme not only relates to the new building, but to the feeling you get from the Madonna community. When we think of home, we think of a place filled with love, encouragement, and acceptance. Madonna truly embodies these characteristics in so many ways for the students and adult clients.
Throughout this past year, we have realized even more what we already knew – that Madonna is so blessed to have wonderful and dedicated administration, staff, teachers, coaches, and parents. Madonna would not be the home it is without them.
As this year’s co-charis, we are honored to play a small part in helping the Madonna community continue to grow and thrive. Thank you to everyone who has helped make this event fun and successful. It was amazing to see how many people so generously volunteered their time or treasure to make Celebration a great event.
Thank you to each of you for attending tonight’s event and for your support of Madonna. We hope you enjoy the evening!

2024 Celebration Chairs
Madonna Honors Cindy & Scott Heider
Welcome to “Coming Home Celebration 2024”! We are honored to join you tonight for a celebration of everything Madonna School and CommunityBased Services stands for in our community.
Madonna holds a special place in our hearts, and always will. More than 30 years ago, we were introduced to Sister Mary Evangeline, foundress of Madonna School. For those who knew her, she was simply a force of nature. She had a vision for what she wanted to create for young people and their families in our community, and absolutely no one was going to tell Sister Evangeline something couldn’t be done. She was the very definition of a Sister of Mercy in action. Consequently, so many lives were changed, and that mission continues today.
Lately, we often think about how Sister would view today’s Madonna, as the new campus building nears completion this fall on the Aksarben campus, and with how its mission has grown so much, and evolved. We believe it’s certain she would be proud of the leadership of Madonna for their bold vision. Without a doubt, Sister would be fiercely proud of their unwillingness to accept that Madonna, in today’s environment, couldn’t serve even more children and adults than ever before and importantly, in ways she may never have imagined.
Tonight, we congratulate everyone involved, both past and present. Jon Burt’s leadership has been visionary these last few years and the board’s support of Jon and Madonna’s mission has been unwavering. Madonna School and Community-Based Services is thriving.
Sister Mary Evangeline’s life’s work continues today in our community stronger and with more purpose than ever before. This is something to truly appreciate and celebrate together tonight.
Cindy & Scott Heider 2024 Celebration Honorees
Letter from the President Jon Burt
Dear Friends of Madonna,
Welcome to our 2024 Celebration Gala. Through your faithful and generous support, Madonna School & CommunityBased Services is on the cusp of “Coming Home” to our new campus in Aksarben Village while we are in the midst of an organizational transformation that ensures the entire community of Omaha is “home” for Madonna’s students and adult clients.
No doubt, “home” is most often associated with place, but more accurately “home” is a term we use only when a place, and its people, make us feel welcomed and fully included. Home is where we explore the inner depths of our hearts and minds, it is where we learn how to build relationships, discover our abilities, and hone our skills. Home is where our imagination has the freedom to create the dreams that we strive to bring into reality. Home is where we feel the support and security to be our full self, our most authentic self, and our best self. Home is where we thrive!
So, where is “home” for Madonna students and clients in 2024?
• Home is in our local Catholic Schools learning side by side with their siblings, friends, neighbors and peers as fully included members of the school and parish community.
• Home is in organizations around the metro exploring, volunteering, and gaining life experiences that build autonomy and independence.
• Home is in nearly 100 Omaha area businesses working hard at jobs they earned through competitive application.
• Home is in churches, neighborhoods, parks, restaurants, movie theatres, farmers markets, festivals, zoos, stores, and places of all kinds.
Today, “home” for Madonna students and clients is the entire community...because Madonna believes every single individual we serve—through their God-given human dignity and their innate abilities—deserves the welcome and security of home, demands the inclusion of home, and is capable of being at home and thriving side-by-side with all of us in this wonderful “home” we call Omaha!
Thank you for all you do for Madonna and for helping us Celebrate tonight!
People Who Helped Us Celebrate
This evening would not be possible without the dedication of numerous volunteers and staff members. The following selflessly gave of their time, creativity and services to make Celebration a success.

Madonna has been serving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities since 1960. As a Catholic school without a parish and whose graduates do not become prosperous donors, Madonna’s mission is fulfilled only because of generous friends like you.
To ensure a thriving future, we are calling upon our closest friends to include Madonna School in their estate plans. We invite you to join The Evangeline Society, a legacy society honoring the work of our Foundress, Sr. Mary Evangeline Randolph, RSM. Membership comes from remembering Madonna School and CommunityBased Services in your estate.

29 Duncan McGuire Autographed Olympic Jersey
Omaha couldn’t be prouder of our home-grown soccer phenom, Duncan McGuire, and maybe the proudest of all is his little brother Holden, a long-time Madonna student! Duncan’s soccer journey led him from Creighton Prep to Creighton University, where he had a standout senior season and earned several accolades, including Big East Offensive Player of the Year and TopDrawerSoccer.com National Player of the Year. He was also awarded the Hermann Trophy which annually goes to the top men’s collegiate soccer player! Since graduation, McGuire continued his career with Orlando City SC and last month was selected for the U.S. Men’s Olympic Soccer Team and proudly represented the USA in Paris!
Duncan and Holden share a special bond, with Duncan commenting that Holden has taught him to appreciate the little things in life and not to get angry about insignificant things. The McGuire family has generously donated an authentic Olympic jersey, autographed by Duncan.
