The college selection process can be very overwhelming. Even if you have an idea of where you want to apply, the entire process itself is still quite stressful — whether it is the pressure of getting accepted or getting enough aid to help you pay for your education, etc. — there seem to be many issues to make you lose sleep.
will try to ease that burden by taking you on a trip across the United States to discover really amazing schools, most of which you may know very little about. We will come across large universities and some small colleges that have less students than your high school. You will find highly technical schools, liberal arts colleges, design schools, etc.— some tucked away in remote areas, and others that are located within a large city. As you engage in this adventure and come across unique programs, whether it's a fascinating new field such as Cognitive Science, foritstudybecauseschoolsextraordinaryfield,Design,VideoDroneEngineering,FinancialBioinformatics,Design,DataScience,Games,Packageetc.,oratraditionalyouwillfindangroupofthatstandouttheirprogramofistrulyoutstandingandpreparesyoutobereadytherealworld.
Prestige and brand recognition are important, but the selection process should go beyond that. It is always smart to look at options that you may have never even considered. So why aren’t the “ultra selective” schools included in this book? Our objective is to uncover schools and programs that may not be the obvious choices for most people — the schools or programs that are often overlooked. There is no point in “discovering” schools that are already so well known, unless there is a distinctive program that makes it really special and noteworthy. The schools in GEMS are included not just because of their superb education. Some of the colleges in GEMS have the lowest tuition rates in the country. In fact, there are several sections in this book dedicated to find unusual ways to save big money. Other schools are included because the career prospects, starting salaries and job placement rates are so incredibly high, they merit Weattention.would have loved to include all the great schools in our voyage — we know for a fact that there are many more gems out there— but that is an impossible task. Glad you came along. We know you will enjoy the trip!

Over the years, universities across the United States have created large investment funds that are managed by students. These students, from multi-disciplinary areas of study, enroll in a specific Finance course where they form a team to essentially function as real stock brokers within the school. The students have to analyze economic trends, track financial markets, etc. while making final decisions on what stocks to buy or sell. Most student investment funds are managed by a combination of graduate and undergraduate students, mentored by a few experts Finance. The University of Dayton houses the Davis Center for Portfolio Management, where undergrads “Since 2010, these undergraduates have generated approximately $24 million in capital gains for the benefit of the University.¨[10] have exclusive oversight and responsibility for The Flyer Investments Fund, which last year reached an astronomical value of $35.2 Million of Assets Under Management[11]. LIBERALCOLLEGESARTS
Liberal Arts Colleges offer some of the best education experiences for students. A liberal arts education is not just about learning humanities, as many people believe. A focus on liberal arts lets students explore their inner selves and discover the world around them, all while taking a rigorous course load in Math, Computer Science, and even Engineering. There are many examples of successful men and women who graduated from a small liberal arts college. One such case is Reed Hastings, the CEO & co-founder of Netflix. Of course there are plenty of others, some of whom have gone on to jobs in large entities such as Google, Microsoft, BlackRock, the International Monetary Fund, to name just a few. C
Beloit College recently announced the Midwest Flagship Match[47], a unique offer for students from Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota & Wisconsin to enroll at Beloit and pay the same in-state tuition that they would pay at the flagship university in their state, equating to thousand of dollars in savings.
Beloit College is perhaps the best little college that few people know about. The school of 1,300 students located in Beloit, Wisconsin, is taking gigantic steps in creating a curriculum that matches what companies need in today’s world. At Beloit, students can learn about Algorithmic Design & Analysis, (a course in Computer Science) or Cognitive Robotics, (a unique class in the Cognitive Science major) which integrates computer science, cognitive psychology and philosophy. Beloit recently created 2 new majors: Data Science, for students interested in developing skills in advanced math, machine learning and data mining and Data Analytics, for students more focused on learning to interpret insights and translating them to the workplace.

This course serves as an introduction to robotics and to the many philosophical questions raised when using machines to do traditionally human activities. The reconfigurable and programmable robots used in class -such as LEGO Mindstorms- will allow students to see how machines respond to performing human-like activities. The class simultaneously explores what we know about cognition and embodiment, while asking philosophical questions about whether a machine could replicate or emulate genuine intelligence. This class integrates approaches from computer science, cognitive psychology, and philosophy, but prior knowledge of these fields is not required or expected.
Students are welcome from all levels of programming experience, including those completely new to it.

Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas is a rising liberal arts college of about 2,500 students, located right in the middle of this everexpanding city. One of the best ways to determine the success of a college is by looking at the variation in the number of applicants. Trinity has been experiencing a tremendous increase, going from about 5,500 applicants to almost 10,000 in the last 5 years alone[2]. But what stands out is not just the number of applicants, but the academic level of its incoming class. In that same time span, the avg. SAT score of the students enrolling at Trinity has increased over 100 points[2] — all this while mostly maintaining the same enrollment figures. There are simply not many colleges in the U.S. who can boast such a large increase in demand from top students, which tells us they must be doing something right.

UNION COLLEGE
The next time someone tells you that liberal arts colleges lack the technical curriculum, you need to talk to them about Union College. Union is not your typical LAC. It is the first liberal arts college in the United States to offer engineering, and has the top Engineering Program of all liberal arts colleges in the country. Yes, you will also find the standard programs in humanities, social sciences, etc. that are available in other liberal arts colleges, but Union College stands out because it offers 4 Engineering Programs accredited by ABET, the highest level of accreditation organization for engineering programs in the United States and in many countries around the world. You can major in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering…and combine them with a liberal arts curriculum — not something easy to find in a college.
Union is located in Schenectady, New York, a place with a rich tradition of engineering — the birthplace of General Electric.

ESports consists of 2 teams competing against each other on a specific video game, such as League of Legends, Overwatch, Fortnite, Rainbow Six or many others. Because it requires such a high level of specialization, each player hones his or her skills on a particular video game over the years.
Teams often consist of 3 to 6 players who face off in front of large crowds. There are even professional leagues that have expanded around the world and form teams in cities, much like traditional professional sports leagues. In recent years, colleges have created eSports programs, following the path of other sports. Spectators cheer for their team and follow the action on giant screens, listening closely to commentators narrating the game and analyzing each team’s moves. One of the biggest drivers contributing to the fast growth of eSports is that live competitions are streamed to massive audiences through online channels like YouTube and Twitch. Colleges award about $15 Million in scholarships per year — almost 5k per player [24]

ESports has turned into a billion dollar industry worldwide, with global revenues estimated to reach almost $2 Billion USD by 2022.[31] With the rapid-growing industry still in its infancy, a large percentage of the population is still trying to understand exactly how it functions.
Lesser known universities across the United States have also invested in state-of-the-art eSports facilities and coaches with links to the Pros to recruit talented players. Georgia St. Old

The League of Legend World Championship attracted over 100 million viewers around the world, more than most professional sports finals. Goldman[33] Sachs estimates the monthly audience of eSports to reach nearly 280 million by 2022. The audience on YouTube & Twitch is larger than HBO, Netflix & ESPN combined. [32]
Although eSports is relatively new at most schools, some well-known universities in the country already have varsity teams such as: Maryville University in St. Louis, MO launched its eSports program just 5 years ago, and has already conquered 3 National Championships in the League of Legends game. Maryville is one of the first universities to offer full ride scholarships to some of its players. This powerhouse program now attracts hundreds of students to its tryouts every year.
College eSports is about dedication and team interaction, etc. but also about representing a school — to proudly wear its colors. Players feel like they are part of a transformation, helping to pioneer a new concept into the mainstream.
Utah and UC-Irvine, 2 of the top programs, even offer partial scholarships to players. But scholarships are not limited to big colleges with deep pockets.

Granted, there are cities with a higher cost of living, such as Miami, but most of the state is on par with the average cost of living across the U.S. And the central region in Florida, from Tampa to Orlando and across to Daytona Beach is a booming region of high-tech growth and development, where new industries with well-paying jobs are attracting prospecting

“300k people move to Florida every year”
Residents of each one of the 50 states have access to a high-level education at public universities, some of which rank among the best in the world. From a sticker price perspective (ie: not including any scholarships, grants, etc.) paying in-state tuition rates allows students to save a significant amount of money in education, as compared to private universities. But there is a fundamental difference within the public university system across the country — in-state tuition rates can vary tremendously between states. For Pennsylvaniaexample, andFlorida have some of the best public colleges in the country, but some residents in Pennsylvania pay 4x what Florida residents pay, which equates to a difference of about $15K per year — an astronomical amount. If I were a high schooler looking at college options, I would seriously consider taking a “gap year”, moving to Florida after high school, getting a job at DisneyWorld or some other field related within the vast hospitality industry, establishing residency in the state and having access to lower tuition rates. The University of Florida in Gainesville is a world-renown university, ranked #34 country (USNews)[60]. Florida not only offers a top notch education in practically every field, it also represents the classic college experience for students: a vibrant college town, top-ranked sports teams, and plenty of action go. Over 50 years ago, the extreme dehydration of the Florida Gators football team was the origin behind the creation of the famous sports drink[61]. There in Gainesville, a team of doctors at UF labs developed a formula treat the players and ultimately altered the landscape of the sports beverage industry forever.

Cryptographic codes and ciphers play a key role in the protection of information and modern communications. This course examines the central topics in cryptography (the art of designing codes and ciphers) and cryptanalysis (the art of breaking codes and ciphers). Students first explore historical encryption schemes such as Caesar's cipher and substitution ciphers. They then investigate modern techniques including secret key schemes such as DES and AES and Public key methods such as RSA and Elliptic Curves. This course takes a hands-on approach to studying these techniques in that the student will write programs that make and break codes. The ethical and legal considerations that arise in code breaking are also discussed and illustrated through case studies. Sample Course:
