MADISON – Current and charter Reserve Officers for Madison Police Department have volunteered for the last 11 years. The city recently recognized these individuals for their contributions to the department. The department organized the reserves 11 years ago, and 14 members have served

during that time. “We attended a 14-week reserve academy, as well as later attending required in-service training and qualifications with full-time sworn officers,” Cory Wright said. Wright teaches social sciences at Bob Jones High School and volunteered for five years as a Reserve Officer. “During the last 11 years, more than a dozen reserve officers have volunteered thousands of hours,” Wright said.

Polar Express Christmas Tree Trail lighting ceremony to be held Dec. 2 By STAFF REPORTS MADISON – In 2021, the Grinch won’t spoil the fun as he did in 2020 with COVID-19. Some special events are planned in downtown Madison to celebrate Christmas in December. On Dec. 2 at 6 p.m., the Polar Express Christmas Tree Trail will be illuminated on Main Street. Madison City Community Orchestra will perform. Madison Public Library staff will read “The Polar Express.”

Decorated Christmas trees will line the area between Main Street Café and Sullivan Street in the heart of downtown Madison. They will be part of the 2021 Christmas tree decorating contest. Businesses, groups, organizations and individuals enter the contest and decorate a tree. After tree lighting on Dec. 2, Madison’s downtown merchants will present the first annual Wassail Fest.
