Volunteer fire departments kept busy with weekend fires By JOHN FEW John@themadisonrecord.com HARVEST – It goes without saying that with frigid winter weather, the chances of house fires drastically increase. This has been very true lately. Volunteer firefighters were kept busy over the weekend in the Harvest and Monrovia area. Firefighters responded to three major house fires from Fri-

day through Sunday. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported. According to Kyler Albright with the Harvest Volunteer Fire and Rescue, the first fire occurred Friday around 3 p.m. in the 300 block of Early Harvest Court. Crews from Harvest VFD 23, Monrovia and Toney responded. Firefighters found a single-family residential struc-

ture with an attached garage on fire. Crews from Monrovia and Harvest were able to prevent further extension, Albright said. “Smoke damage was throughout the home, but fire damage contained to the garage and interior hallway.” They were assisted by firefighters from Toney. Later that night, firefighters again rolled out. This See FIRES Page 3A

Huntsville Police requested SBI take the lead because the shooting involved McCoy, an off-duty Huntsville Police officer. According to authorities, officers responded to a shooting Friday around 10 a.m. at Western Ranch Apartments, which sits just north of Hwy 72 behind Home Depot and Khols in Madison.
