Powering the Party at Cali Beach. This first-of-its-kind, open-air beach club benefits from MadisonAV’s specialised design services and JBL Professional’s wide range of weatherised loudspeakers with high levels of pattern control. The Project
The Solution
A high performance audio solution to power the party at ‘Cali Beach’, a $10m California inspired rooftop party and entertainment hub at Surfers Paradise. The first of its kind, it features pools, outdoor deck areas, and cabanas, all with ocean views. There are multi restaurant options, a beach volleyball court, an outdoor cinema and more. Operating from morning until deep into the night, the club offering is compelling with DJs and a superior audiovisual offering as well.
Tasked with mitigating dispersion, but maximising the quality of the sound within the venue, the specialist MadisonAV Technical Sales Support Team provided audio design, speaker selection and 3D EASE modelling support to Prestige Group, the AV integrator working with the venue. There are around 80 JBL Professional loudspeakers in the Cali Beach project, many operating in nearfield mode to restrict spill outside the venue. Crown CDI series amplifiers, along with BSS processing and BLU Link networking were chosen for processing and amplification duties.

The client wanted to provide customers with a memorable live entertainment and DJ experience by delivering the same audio experience and atmosphere that you would encounter in an indoor nightclub or bar. However, the venue presented a number of unique challenges. Being located on a rooftop with overlooking residential buildings and no walls or roof to contain noise meant that audio design, very tight pattern control, and speaker selection would play a critical role. Whilst environmentally, being open to the elements and near salt water would require a robust suite of products.
The Results The range of weatherised loudspeakers selected for the project are delivering the audio outcomes desired by the client, thanks to the 3D modelling process which enable accurate product selection. Cali Beach partner Matthew Keegan is quick to praise both the sound and the installation. “We’ve been very happy with JBL,” he said. “It’s been an extremely smooth experience dealing with both Prestige and MadisonAV. They were tasked with something that was pretty challenging, and we’re very happy with the results.”
