WHAT IS A SIGNET RING? “Signet ring” is a term that is used to describe a wide range of personalized rings, including monograms, family crests, fraternity and sorority symbols, and class rings.

Signet rings can be made entirely from metal, or be set with a carved stone. When the engraving or carving is deep enough, the ring can be used to leave an impression in melted wax. This carving technique is called intaglio, and has been practiced since the earliest Mesopotamian civilizations. Intaglio is sometimes confused with cameo because they both involve carving, however, they are technically opposites. Intaglio is carved into the medium, leaving an impression, while cameo is carved out of the medium, creating a raised design. Because intaglio is concave, it will leave an inverse raised design when stamped in wax.

Once you have selected your preference, the next decision to make is which precious metal you would like. We craft our signet rings from 925 sterling silver, platinum, 9k, 14k and 18k gold in yellow, white or rose gold.

PERSONALISATION

You can add a text of up to 4 characters on both shoulders of your ring. Date and initials are popular choices.

For a bespoke ring design, you can upload your artwork (Logo, crest, image or initials), in png, gif, jpeg or jpg format. We may contact you with a 3D proof image of your design of your ring for approval before we go into final production. We may need to adjust and tune it but we won’t finish until you are happy with it. Very intricate artwork may incur a further charge, but you will be notified before proceeding with your order.

PERSONALISATION We can offer you a choice of having the design engraved into the surface of the metal or having the design appear in relief, where the background is engraved. Not all designs allow this choice. if you have specific questions or requests, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.

INSIDE BAND ENGRAVING The inside of your ring band can be engraved with personalised message of up to 21 characters. You can select either a block or script font for your inside engraving.

RING FINISHES Our bespoke signet rings are available with either a natural finish of polished metal or with a black "antique" finish designed to enhance engraved details.

925 STERLING SILVER Silver can be seen as contemporary or traditional depending on the design.

It complements most skin tones, making it a safe and popular purchase.

Sterling silver is an alloy of silver that consists of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% of other metal, usually copper. Alloying with copper maintains the silvery colour of the metal, while increasing its strength. In order to be called sterling silver, the metal must have at least 92.5% pure silver, however, the other components can vary. Since silver can tarnish, gently cleaning it with a polish and cloth will keep it looking immaculate.

YELLOW GOLD Yellow gold is the most traditional of precious metal options. It’s a popular choice for jewellery. Gold is naturally yellow in color, but when silver or copper is added, its natural warmth is enhanced.

The amount of pure gold in the jewellery depends on its karat. The higher the karat, the greater the purity — but also the lower the durability. That's why most yellow gold jewellery is 9K, 14K or 18K gold.

Yellow gold is also the most hypoallergenic of all gold types.

ROSE GOLD Rose gold is a striking metal alloy of gold mixed with copper. The result of this creates a delightful rose tint in the finished material. Rose became fashionable around the turn of the 19th century. Since then, rose gold has been used as a stylish and elegant alternative to yellow and white gold.

WHITE GOLD White gold gets its color by mixing yellow gold with alloys like silver, nickel, zinc, and palladium. Due to the variety of the alloys used, white gold colors will vary. Sometimes, white gold is covered with rhodium plating to create a bright, pure white finish. However, it needs to be maintained (“rerhodiumed”) often in order for the white gold to retain its appearance.

PLATINUM Platinum is a rare precious metal, typically comprised of 95% platinum and 5% other metals, also known as alloys. Labeled as 950 platinum, it is a dense, malleable silver-white metal that makes it ideal for crafting jewellery.
