Hommage aux savants & inventeurs Noirs afronews /
Graham Bell, Thomas Edison, Gütenberg. Il est des inventeurs dont les noms sont restés gravés dans les mémoires et ont traversé générations et frontières. Ceci ne fut jamais le cas de savants Noirs, « de couleur », « Kamit », « Afro-descendants ». Peu importe le nom qu’on leur donne, les savants, pères d’inventions majeures mais dont la peau contenait un surplus de mélanine ont inexorablement, et sans exception, été condamnés à l’oubli. La dernière Kamit Night du premier semestre 2012 entendait ainsi faire justice à ces tenants du « génie Kamit » que sont, entre autres, Georges Nicolo, Lewis Latimer ou encore Garrett Morgan. En effet, sans eux point de feux de signalisation, ni masque à gaz, ni ampoule électrique, ni internet … Cette soirée de réflexion organisée par l’Association K-Neter, à Genève, a ainsi permis aux participants de re-découvrir ce pan de leur histoire et échanger sur les moyens de mieux s’approprier cet héritage et surtout, mieux le transmettre. Témoignages personnels et arguments idéologiques ont pu nourrir ce moment d’échange auquel sont conviés, deux fois par mois, toutes celles et ceux qui sont intéressés par les questions touchant au monde Noir africain.

Graham Bell, Thomas Edison, Gütenberg … are names that have crossed borders and centuries and left a lasting mark on our memories. This was definitely not the case for any Black, “colored”, “Kamit”, “Afro” scientist ever. Whatever they are labeled, the scientists and inventors at the origin of major breakthrough but whose skin was apparently a bit too “dark” have all, without exception, fallen into eternal oblivion. The Kamit Night organized on July 20th intended to do justice to some leading voices of the “Kamit genius” such as George Nicolo, Lewis Latimer and Garret Morgan, without whom the world might have never known traffic lights, gas masks, light bulbs or even the Internet … During this discussion night organized by the K-Neter Centre in Geneva, the participants had the privilege to discover this side of their history and, through personal testimonies and ideological arguments, debated on ways to better own it and pass it on to the next generations. Le premier dictionnaire des noms propres africains Après dix-sept longues années de travail, le Dictionnaire Biographique des Africains a vu le jour sous la plume de l’historien Jean Kanyarwunga. Ce Who’s who colossal propose une présentation détaillée de plus de 2600 personnalités africaines d’hier et d’aujourd’hui. L’auteur, qui dispose encore de près de 2000 biographies dans ses tiroirs, affirme que « Les africains ne sont pas le produit de l’Histoire, ils sont l’histoire de l’Afrique ». The first dictionary of African names After 17 long years of hard work, the Biographic Dictionary of Africans finally saw the light of day under the name of the historian Jean Kanyarwunga. This work gives us a detailed presentation of more than 2600 famous past and present Africans. The author, who still has almost 2000 other biographies in his possession says that “Africans are not a product of history, they are the history of Africa”. We met the actor Patsha Bay at the African Cinema Festival in Lausanne – he played in a Congolese thriller called “Viva Riva”. He was accompanied by his manager Olivier Kasay.
