Vue du ciel, sa forme circulaire de 160 mètres de diamètre, couverte de panneaux en verre, évoque la forme d’une puce informatique, instrument de diffusion de l’information des temps modernes. Ses grandes ouvertures lumineuses sont réglables afin de doser la luminosité des salles de lecture situées en dessous. A l’intérieur de ces salles, l’espace est divisé and symbols known of all times: from the mathematic language, to Braille to musical notes, genetic codes or even barcodes! From a bird’s eye view, its circular shape of 160 m diameter, covered with glass panels, calls to mind the shape of a microchip, modern time instrument of information broadcasting. These big light sources openings are adjustable to get the proper luminosity of the reading rooms located underneath. Inside these rooms, the space is divided in 14 semi levels opening up the place similar to a gigantic amphitheatre. Thin concrete columns that finish off in a lotus shape support this structure and give it a lightness although it is the world’s most spacious reading room with 3,000 seats and 8 million books to check… Library above all, this building hosts two museums and a congress centre as well.
