An Analytical Exploration of Beatles Discourse.

This artist book unveils a scholarly pursuit conducted by Sofia Amador, Jessica Gomes, and Karolina Kruszyńska, under the guidance of Professor João Mota within the domain of Contemporary Artistic Movements.

Methodologically grounded, our examination drew from an extensive corpus of 210 interviews with The Beatles members, meticulously curated from beatlesinterviews.org.

Employing a rigorous approach, we analyzed the lexical choices of the band members, researching the recurring themes that articulate the multifaceted layers of their narrative.

From the concepts of career, music, shows, life, and political discourse, eight predominant notions emerged: "people," "love," "war," "drugs," "show," "responsibility," "life," and "money."

This compendium interweaves captivating photographs with selected quotations, offering a lens into the soul of the Beatles' collective consciousness inviting readers to contemplate the intricate interaction between the Beatles' artistic expressions and the broader human experience.

george "Well, you get accustomed to it, and after a while you just take it for granted and you just do everything automatically..."

"The people like natural people better I think."

"We don't like to call it anything. The critics and the people who write about it have to call it something... and they didn't want to say it was rock & roll because rock was supposed to have gone out about five years ago."

paul "In America the people who are big stars are not our age."

"None of us think of ourselves as famous or anything. We just sort of think-- it's us, the same group who was playing in the Cavern-- but we're just getting a bit more money or there's more people coming to our concerts."

GEORGE: "I believe I love my guitar more than the others love theirs. Just call me a guitar fanatic instead, and I'll be satisfied."

GEORGE: "The hippies are a good idea. I love all these people... the ones who are honest and trying to find a bit of truth, and to straighten out the untruths. I'm with them one hundred percent.

RINGO: "I'd just like to say thanks to all the fans, because it's the fans that make you. Without them you're nothing, you know, and we love the fans as much as they love us. I saw one columnist saying that all the kids at Shea Stadium weren't having a good time. But if that's not having a healthy laugh... shouting and running 'round... what is, you know. I mean, what does he know about it, just because he's about ninety."

PAUL: "We had been told we'd be seen recording it by the whole world at the same time. So we had one message for the world-- Love. We need more love in the world."

PAUL: "I dont know, you know. If you can say that war is no good, and a few people believe you, then it may be good. I dont know."

JOHN: "We all just don't agree with war. There's no need to kill anyone for any reason."

JOHN: "People sit around pointing fingers at Nixon and the leaders of the countries, saying, 'He gave us peace,' or 'He gave us war,' when it's our responsibility what happens around the world. It's our responsibility for Vietnam, and all the other wars that we don't quite hear about. It's all our responsibility, and when we all want peace we'll get it.

People have said we're naive for trying to sell peace like a car, or bar of soap. But I ask ya, is the Ford company naive... or the soap powder company? Their selling the same old soap that's been around for two thousand years, but now it's 'New Blue Soap.' Well, we're selling 'New Blue Peace!' ...and we hope some of you buy it!"

PAUL: "We had been told we'd be seen recording it by the whole world at the same time. So we had one message for the world-- Love. We need more love in the world."

PAUL: "I don't think it'll make any difference. I don't think my fans are going to take drugs just because I did, you know. But the thing is-- that's not the point anyway. I was asked whether I had or not. And from then on, the whole bit about how far it's gonna go and how many people it's going to encourage is up to the newspapers, and up to you on television. I mean, YOU'RE spreading this now, at this moment. This is going into all the homes in Britain. And I'd rather it didn't. But you're asking me the question-- You want me to be honest-- I'll be honest."

GEORGE: "In the physical world we live in there is always duality... good and bad, black and white, yes and no.

There's always something equal and opposite to everything.

That is why you can't say LSD is good or bad, because it's both good AND bad. I don't mind telling people I've had it.

I'm not embarrassed about it. But we don't want to tell anyone else to have it. That's something that is up to the person himself."

JOHN: "We've had enough acid. It's done all it can do for us, you know. There's no going any further with it. It only does so much. Meditation is much healthier... I like it better actually. You just feel more energetic for doing work, or anything. You just come out of it and it's like... (snaps fingers) ...Let's Get Going!"

JOHN: "Studying religion has made me try to improve relationships, not to be unpleasant. It's not a conscious move to change my personality. I'm just trying to be how I want to be, and how I'd like others to be. Drugs have probably helped my understanding of myself better, but not much.

Not pot. That's just a harmless giggle. LSD was the selfknowledge which pointed the way. I was suddenly struck by great visions when I first took acid. But you've got to be looking for it before you can possibly find it. Perhaps I was looking without realizing it. Perhaps I would have found it anyway. It would have just taken longer. The first time we took acid was really an accident. Me and George were at a dinner and someone gave it to us when we didn't know much about it... and we weren't supervised which you should be. We did think we were going barmy."

GEORGE: "The Beatles got all the material wealth we needed, and that was enough to show us that's not what it's all about. We are all living in the physical world, and yet what we are all striving for isn't physical. We get so hung up on things like cars and television and houses, yet what they can give you is only there for a little while, and then it's gone. LSD isn't a real answer either. It enables you to see alot of possibilities that you may not have noticed before, but it isn't the answer."

PAUL: "God is in everything. God is in the space between us. God is in the table in front of you. For me it just happens that I realized all this through acid, but it could have been through anything else."

PAUL: "Back home in Liverpool we'd only ever done hour-long shows, so we just did our best numbers over and over again. But in Hamburg we had to play for eight hours, so we really had to find a new way of playing. We played very loud in Hamburg... bang, bang all the time. The Germans loved it. The first time it was pretty rough. One night, we accidentally singed a bit of cord on an old stone wall in the corridor, and the owner of the place had the police on us. He'd told them that we tried to burn his place down, so they said, 'Leave please.' Funny really, because we couldn't have burnt the place if we had gallons of petrol... It was made of stone."

GEORGE: "We'd been to Hamburg. I think that's where we found our style... we developed our style because of this fella. He used to say, 'You've got to make a show for the people.' And he used to come up every night, shouting 'Mach schau! Mach schau!' So we used to mach schau, and John used to dance around like a gorilla, and we'd all, you know, knock our heads together and things like that.

Anyway, we got back to Liverpool and all the groups there were doing 'Shadows' type of stuff. And we came back with leather jackets and jeans and funny hair, maching schau... which went down quite well."

PAUL: "Lots of people have asked us what we enjoyed best... concerts, television, or recording. We like doing stage shows because it's great to hear an audience enjoying themselves. But the thing we like best is going into the recording studio to make new records... which is what we've been doing all day before we started on this special message. What we like to hear most is one of our songs taking shape in a recording studio, and then listening to the tapes afterwards to hear how it all worked out."

GEORGE: "Even though we've really enjoyed having five days off, we're all looking forward to this show like mad. New York is one of the most amazing cities in the world. You just don't see so many big buildings all packed into one little space anywhere else in the world. I like it."

GEORGE: "We'd been to Hamburg. I think that's where we found our style... we developed our style because of this fella. He used to say, 'You've got to make a show for the people.' PAUL: "Mmm, but the thing is... I was asked a question by a newspaper, and the decision was whether to tell a lie or tell him the truth. I decided to tell him the truth... but I really didn't want to say anything, you know, because if I had my way I wouldn't have told anyone. I'm not trying to spread the word about this. But the man from the newspaper... is the man from the mass medium. I'll keep it a personal thing if he does too you know... if he keeps it quiet. But he wanted to spread it so it's his responsibility, you know, for spreading it not mine."

JOHN: "It just built up over a number of years actually.

The thing that really struck it off was a letter we got from a guy called Peter Watkins who made a film called, 'The War Game.' It was a very long letter stating just what's happening... how the media is really controlled, how it's all run, and everything else that people really know deep down. He said, 'People in your position have a responsibility to use the media for world peace.' And we sat on the letter for about three weeks thinking, 'Well, we're doing our best. All you need is love, man.' That letter just sort of sparked it all off. It was like getting your induction papers for peace."

GEORGE: "I hope to have enough money to go into a business of my own by the time we do... ummm... flop. I mean, we don't know. It may be next week, it may be two or three years."
