The history of speed People have always wanted to travel faster. First, they went faster by riding a camel or a horse. Then they used horses to pull carriages with wheels. People also used the power of the wind to travel across the sea.

People can reach speeds of nearly 70 kilometres per hour (km/h) on horseback.

Ships sailed across the seas powered by wind.
