ABOUT MAAIF

Hosted by the Hong Kong Catastrophic Risk Centre and the Department of Philosophy of Lingnan University, the Master of Arts in Artificial Intelligence and the Future (MAAIF) offers a humanities-based perspective on Artificial Intelligence (AI). Our students gain a fundamental understanding of AI and delve into the ethical and social issues arising from AI technologies through a rigorous interdisciplinary programme combining philosophy, computer science, logic, psychology, and literature. In our wide-ranging curriculum, students will consider the ramifications of AI in a variety of domains, including science, law, economics, public policy, healthcare, and business and finance.

Existing AI programmes with a strong technical focus do not prepare students to tackle the wider ethical and philosophical issues thrown up by this technology. As one of the leading anglophone philosophy departments in Asia, the Department of Philosophy and the Hong Kong Catastrophic Risk Centre at Lingnan University are ideally equipped to meet this challenge. Students will enjoy unprecedented access to an international network of research and business leaders in AI. Classes will be held at Lingnan’s state-of-the-art M+ Campus in the heart of the West Kowloon Cultural District (Subject to approval).

课程概述

人工智能与未来文学硕士课程(MAAIF)由香港灾难风险研究中心及 岭南大学哲学系合办。MAAIF为这一新兴领域提供了一种人文观点的 探讨。获得对人工智能的基本理解以外,学生将透过结合哲学、计算 机科学、逻辑学、心理学和文学的跨学科课程深入研究其引发的伦理 和社会问题。在课程中,学生将研究人工智能在科学、法律、经济学、 公共政策、医疗保健、商业和金融等领域的影响。

现有的人工智能课程以技术为重点,无法让学生作充足准备去解决这 项科技带来广泛的伦理和哲学问题。岭南大学哲学系作为亚洲其中一 家领先的英语哲学部门,将联同校内的香港灾难风险研究中心有信心 能应对这项挑战,我们的学生将获得在人工智能领域相关的国际研 究和商业领袖网络的各种就业机会。课程将在岭大位于西九龙文化区 中心最先进的 M+ 校园举行(待大学批准)。

LEARNING

OUTCOMES

Upon completion of the MAAIF, students will be able to:

• Explain basic theoretical and ethical principles underlying the growing field of AI.

• Communicate technical and ethical concepts related to AI to different audiences, including researchers, policymakers and non-experts.

• Generate strategies for creating more responsible, ethical, and human-centered AI systems and applications.

• Identify and critically assess the potential risks associated with AI development and implementation, including issues related to fairness, bias, job displacement and existential risks.

学习成果

完成 MAAIF 后,学生将能够

• 解释人工智能领域的基本理论和伦理原则。

• 向不同受众(包括研究人员、政策制定者和非专家)传达与 人工智能相关的技术和伦理概念。

• 创建更负责任、合乎伦理及以人为本的人工智能系统和 提出其应用策略。

• 识别并批判与人工智能开发和实施相关的潜在风险,包括与 公平、偏见、就业转移和生存风险相关的问题。

ADMISSION REQUIREMENT

For admission to the prorgamme, an applicant shall fulfill the minimum admission requirement as follows,

Academic Qualification(s)

• hold a relevant bachelor’s degree awarded by a tertiary education institution recognised for this purpose by the University; or

• have obtained an equivalent qualification; or

• have provided satisfactory evidence of academic and professional attainment.

English Proficiency

In addition to the above, applicants whose degree or, exceptionally, an alternative qualification deemed equivalent from a tertiary institution is not using English as the medium of instruction (MOI) for the programme should obtain:

• a minimum score of 550 (paper-based test) or 79 (internet-based test) in the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) 1 2 ; or

• a band score of 6.5 or above in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) 1 , or

• an equivalent score in a recognised test, or an equivalent qualification to prove his/her English language proficiency which will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

申请入读人工智能与未来文学硕士课程,必须满足以下条件: 学术资格:

• 持有岭南大学认可的荣誉学士学位或同等学历;或

• 具备相关的优秀学术及专业成就证明;或

• 提供令人满意的学业及专业成就证明。

英语程度:

如申请人若非持有本港大学颁授的学位或于非英语教学的 大学取得学位,必须符合以下英语水平要求:

• 托福(TOEFL)笔试达到至少550分或托福网考79分 1,2;或

• 雅思国际英语语言测试达到至少( IELTS )6.5 分 1;或

• 持有同等资格者(申请将根据具体情况予以考 虑 )。

1 For IELTS and TOEFL qualifications, the University only accepts results that are within the validity period, viz. 2 years, from the time of submission of an admission application for the specific intake cohort.

2 For an applicant using TOEFL “MyBest scores” to fulfill the minimum required score of 79, the programme should use interview or other means to assess the applicant’s proficiency in English.

Scholarships might be considered for outstanding students on the basis of academic merit. All students admitted to the programme will automatically be the candidates for the scholarships. No application is required.
