ADDITION TO EXISTING HOME
RESIDENTIAL PROJECT
Location - Lawrence, KS
This project was a renovation and addition to an already existing home in Lawrence, Kansas. The target group designed for was college students in the area looking to rent a home. The idea behind the design was to create a relaxing space inside and outside so that when students returned from work or class they could enjoy leisure time on the loft, in the transition space, or outside.
In doing renovations we also had to make sure to leave the exterior of the existing building as untouched as possible as the limestone construction is a historic part of this town.

Sunflower State Salvage is a building deisgned around sustainability through the processes inside and the through use of renewable energy and materials. The construction of the 1st and 3rd floor are wood formed concrete and the 2nd floor uses reclaimed barn wood for the fascade. On the roof there are wind turbines and solar panels to help reduce energy costs.
The purpose of this building is to repurpose reclaimed barn wood from surrounding torn down farms. This is done through a process of collecting the wood, cutting it down, sanding or refining it, then seeling it as is for reuse or using it for furniture and decorative designs. In having renewable energy and sustainable work inside the building, this building not only has the potential for net-zero carbon emissions but it also produces more useable material than it does waste.

SINGLE PARENT HOUSING
MIXED USE RESIDENTIAL AND COMMERCIAL PROJECT
Location - Kansas City, MO
Lifestyle Lofts was a project for single parents in need of childcare, work, and residency. The construction includes a daycare, gym, cafe, market, and bookstore. The residential portion has 32 units with 8 being three bedroom and 24 being two bedroom. The outdoor spaces include a hallway balcony, a ground floor playground and a ground floor picnic space.
The goal of this project was to promote saftey, socialization, and comfort to single parents. In living here they can easily find work, find child care, and find other single parents to converse with to help against depression and loneliness. With this construction being on main street it also gives parents access to other work environments as well as schools K-12 to help get their children education.

In our Design Build studio we were tasked with designing and constructing a memorial bench in rememberance of Mr. and Mrs. Penny’s son who had died a few years prior. The goal was to create a bench that would make the roof seem more welcoming and enjoyable to sit out on when it is warm or sunny. The bench takes insirpation from artist Louis Kopt’s work in the hospital memorial mural.
The bench was meant to complement and highlight the mural and its relation to the rolling hills of kansas. Each member of this team helped each other in all aspects of deisgn, presentation and construction.
