Candidature for IFMSA-Iraq National Officer on Human Rights and Peace (2021/2022)

My plan of action was created based on the NORP Tasks that are detailed in IFMSA-Iraq Constitution and Bylaws, SCORP National and International Regulations as well as my experience gained through working with IFMSA as LORP and NORP General Assistant and it consists of the following pillars:

MEMBERS ENGAGEMENT SCORP Local Teams are built last term at most of our LCs that consist of the LORP and their LC’s motivated SCORPions. we need these SCORPions to keep shining in our LCs for this term and that’s why I will make sure to:

Link the new LORPs with their already existed Local Teams through the handover process; Conduct "the Road to Human Rights and Peace" Sessions in our LCs in order to improve the knowledge of the new members about SCORP and its focus areas,

Work closely with MMPSDD on promotion plan for SCORP in the beginning of the term and aligned with our national project “ The Road to Human Rights and Peace”; Develop the section of SCORP within IFMSA-Iraq Website In collaboration with the MMPSDD and HRSDD; Organize SCORP Newsletter at least twice per term to archive all of our achievements and activities also selected articles about Human Rights topics that are written by our SCORPions.

Ensure the promotion for all the activities on both National and Local Level.

Collaborate with Other NMOs in organizing social media campaigns regarding regional or global issues related to SCORP .

Ensure the transparency of the work of SCORP National Team through: Sharing The National Team Monthly Reports by the General Assistant on SCORP communication channels and uploading them on the SCORP Library; Calling for Inputs from SCORP Team and LCs SCORPions for the SC Sessions during the IFMSA-Iraq NGA and Break as well as for the National Camps.

MEMBERS ENGAGEMENT Ensure sharing all the National and International Opportunities related to SCORP with SCORP Team and SCORPions through our Communication Channel and encouraging them to apply for is one of my priorities which reflect on development of SCORP within our NMO.

One of the effective ways to engage our SCORPions is through giving them the opportunity to be part of SCORP Team OLMs in order to learn about SCORP Updates, workflow how brainstorming and sharing ideas happen during these meetings.

Also For LORPs, I’m planning to give them the opportunity to attend the SCORP National Team Meetings as observers in order to observe the workflow within the National Team and how discussion and decision making take place during these meetings.

Feedback Forms Since there is always a space for improvement and WE in SCORP always believe that “FEEDBACK is a GIFT” thus I’m planning to engage our LORPs and SCORPions through giving feedback about the work of National Team in specific and SCORP work within our NMO in general by sharing monthly feedback form for the National Team work with our LORPs and our SCORPions, also sharing Feedback form at least once a year on IFMSA-Iraq Server with all the TO Members and LCs’ Presidents about the work of the SCORP.

TEAM EMPOWERMENT At the beginning of the term and after the appointment of the National Team and Local Officers, I will ensure having 1:1 meetings with each one of them to talk about their expectations, future plans, fears and encourage them to carry out their potential and start implementing their plans.

Be available to have 1:1 Meetings with the SCORP Team upon request in order to help them with their work and also to solve any issues or problems that can happen between the SCORP team themselves or with other people outside of the team.

For the National Team: Organize educational meetings if requested by the National Team for the topics that they need to Learn more about and enhance their skills during their work.

For Local Officers: Ensure delivering orientation sessions (SCORP 101) to the Local Officers Ensure delivering Team Building training sessions in the beginning for the SCORP Team in order to provide them with all the knowledge, skills and tools that they need to lead their Local Teams make sure to share with them the relevant toolkits and resources.

Ensure a proper handover for all of the National Team members (Assistants) and for all of the Local Officers through the following:

Creating Handover Templates for both National Team and Local Officers.

Contacting the previous National Team and LORPs for the term 20202021 and collecting their contact information and providing them to the new SCORP Team.

Continuous follow up for the handover process to make sure that the good work flow then all of the SCORP Team can receive their work email and get their handover in the best possible way.

TEAM EMPOWERMENT Having Healthy Work Environment for SCORP Team (National Team and LORPs) is one of my priorities in which the mental health and well-being of everyone in the team is prioritized through: Distributing the tasks between the National team members and avoid the workload on them and the same for Local Officers especially during the exams periods; Supporting and giving SCORP Team a safe space to share their ideas and suggestions for our work; Try to solve any problem that they have during the work inside and outside of the team; Conduct Mental Health Watch in order to maintain and monitor the Mental Health of SCORP Team.

One of the best ways to strengthen the relationships and team spirit between the National Team and LORPs is going to be through creating monthly buddy groups, each group will consist from One member from the National Team and Three or Four LORPs in which they spend time together, keep in touch with the National Team, exchange their ideas and enhance the collaboration between LCs.

Needs Assessment for LORPs The ultimate goal of a needs assessment is to determine the current and the desired performance. So I’m planning to conduct a needs assessment for the LORPs to determine their strength and weakness points during organizing their activities or leading their teams then working on them through a competency model.

Competency Model In collaboration with CBD, organize the SCORP Competency model for SCORP Team in order to empower the LORPs and to provide them with the sufficient knowledge, skills and tools regarding Activity Management, Advocacy and other topics based on the needs assessment in order to ensure that all the Local Officers organize and manage their activities efficiently and with high quality.

TEAM EMPOWERMENT I’m planning to provide the new LORPs with the contact information of their LCs’ Facilitators who graduated from our Workshops (NTHRE and/or HRMP) then they can work together to facilitate their sessions and improve the work of our standing committee and have better impact in their LCs. For the Local Committees that don’t have NTHRE or HRMP Facilitators, in collaboration with the National Team we will work to provide them with facilitators from other LCs or be available to help them with facilitation of their sessions in case of the unavailability of the facilitators.

As a NORP, it is my duty to monitor and evaluate the work of the SCORP Team in collaboration with the Developmental Assistant through doing continuous follow up with both National and Local Officers to ensure the quality and effectiveness of our activities and make sure that they all relate to our focus areas and are aligned with national and local priorities, also I'm planning to:

Requesting Monthly Reports, In order to assess the work of National Team and LORPs, to identify their difficulties and issues during doing their tasks or organizing activities, and to have a clear idea about their future plans, this will be done in coordination with the General Assistant.

Giving Feedback, one of the most effective methods to improve the quality of our work is about giving continuous feedback for the SCORP Team through providing them with the most suitable suggestions and tips that they can use to enhance their outcomes and future work.

Ensure being approachable and available to contact and reaching out for the National Team and LORPs.

CAPACITY BUILDING After holding three successful workshops during the last two terms, now we will have at least 50 facilitators, therefore I will work on: Developing the current Trainers/Facilitators Database with the new HRMP graduates and their contact information; Creating a mail server for all of our SCORP trainers and facilitators them in order to ensure sharing all the opportunities with them.

Make sure to involve them in the process of facilitation sessions about human rights and peace topics on both National and Local Level which ensure delivering efficient, impactful and high quality sessions within our standing committee.

For this term I’m thinking about organizing a new national workshop that aims to promote new focus area related to SCORP and having new generation of facilitators equipped with knowledge, skills and tools to be advocate and be commitment for this focus area such as Vulnerable Groups or Medical Ethics or Disasters and Disasters Medicine and that would be determined later depending on the Needs Assessment results (may be held physical or online depending on Covid-19 situation and aligned with the babylonia Camp).

Lack of enough number of Human Rights Trainers in IFMSA-Iraq has been and still a big challenge for SCORP to have sustainable and high quality future for SCORP Capacity Building therefore I’m planning to work closely with the CBDD and SCORP Regional Assistant for the EMR to host the First TNHRT Workshop in IFMSA-Iraq History in the next SRT as one of my priorities in order to increase the number of Human Rights Trainers and ensure a better future for SCORP within our NMO.

CAPACITY BUILDING Needs Assessment for SCORPions At the beginning of the term, conducting a needs assessment to our LCs SCORPions in order to assess their knowledge and information regarding SCORP Focus Areas and priorities then and based on the results we can determine the priorities that we need to focus on during implementing our activities within LCs.

Manuals & Toolkits Finalize and collect inputs for the first draft for Domestic Violence in collaboration with the SCORA National Team and the SWG Members.

Ensure the Documentation and proper use of the current Discrimination and Human Rights Trainer Manuals in SCORP Database and Library.

Open a small working group for writing the first LORP Manual.

Open a small working group for drafting a manual for Human Rights related SDGs which will be so useful for the LORPs and SCORPions as a main resource to align their sessions or activities with the SDGs.

National Camps National Camps have always an incredible impact on both the motivation and the knowledge of our SCORPions, For this term I’m planning to organize at least two National Camps at our LCs including SCORP Gathering with specific theme and in collaboration with CBD in order to ensure providing the SCORPions with both of proper knowledge and the soft skills that they need to leave remarkable effects in their LCs.

SUSTAINABILITY Upholding SCORP National Regulations and keeping it respected is my responsibility as NORP therefore I’m planning to: Provide SCORP Team with the National SCORP Regulations and ensure being easily accessible for them and for the SCORPions.

Make sure that all the SCORP Team follow and not violate the current Regulations.

Activating the SCORP Advisory Board which is an internal body within SCORP that aims to supervise and advise on the work of the SC according to the SCORP Regulations.

Throughout the term, work and discuss with the National Team and LORPs the possible Regulations Change Proposals to be voted upon in the next SCORP Plenary.

SCORP Strategy is hopefully going to be adopted for the upcoming terms during the 6th NGA thus I’m planning:

To align my annual working plan with it and to work on achieving its goals during this term; To create a Tracking Sheet for the progress of the Strategy; To submit an annual report for our strategy during the next NGA to be voted upon.

Ensure the sustainability of the current database and improve its content in collaboration with the National Team through uploading the new manuals and documents, also ensuring the uploading of all the documents related to the SCORP Team 2021-2022 which is so essential for the handover process for the next terms.

Activities Enrollment Ensure the enrollment of most of the National Projects into IFMSA Programs in order to maintain SCORP Active Status of IFMSA-Iraq and having a voting right during SCORP Plenaries.

SUSTAINABILITY SCORP Library represents the MAIN Resource Center for SCORP within IFMSA-Iraq that contains all the needs of the LORPs and SCORPions to prepare for their sessions and to have sufficient knowledge about SCORP thus I will work on development the content of SCORP Library with new materials, resources and documents for new topics and ensure the documentation of the follow up materials for National Camps, workshops and meetings.

Advocacy is a long life process that has effective role in facing the challenges and violations against Human Rights and leading the change in the society, therefore I’m planning to focus more about delivering more physical or online sessions about human rights topics and organizing social media campaigns that aim to advocate for Human Rights and building a new generation of Human Rights Advocate in most of our LCs.

Violence against HealthCare Professionals Policy Document has been adopted during the 5th NGA but the implementing has faced difficulties during last term, thus I’m planning to: Review the current VAH Policy Document with the National Team.

Review the current stakeholders mapping and look for other stakeholders.

Hold an educational meeting with the SCORP Team about our VAH Policy Document.

Work closely with the VPE for setting the timelines and contacting the stakeholders to start the implementing of our policy.

Keep the National Team and LORPs updated with the progress of the process.

Ensure providing the next national team with proper handover regarding the implementation of the policy.

Each Term, on both National and International Level SCORP celebrates the international days that are related to SCORP, for this term I’m planning to have social media campaigns for at least three days (Human Rights Day, World Refugee Day and International Day of Peace)

WORK AS TO Attend all the TO Meetings and have an active role in the discussion and decision making process to ensure that our association is running efficiently and smoothly.

To have a better impact and find the best solutions for the human rights violations in our community, we need to increase collaboration with other Standing Committees to work together on the related focus areas through organizing joint sessions, activities and campaigns.

Make sure to attend both of our National Meetings (Spring Break and NGA), Coordinate the Standing Committee Sessions in the best possible way that ensure high quality and informative sessions and best experience for our members as well as have an active role during the presidents’ sessions and decision making process during them including the plenaries.

Regarding external representation, I’m planning to ensure having an active role and the best possible representation for our NMO during the General Assemblies including SCORP Sessions and SCORP Plenaries and EMR Meeting as well as the international opportunities that I will apply for during this term.

GOSCORP GoSCORP is a SCORP initiative that combines the unilateral exchange and volunteering experience. For this term I’m thinking about start the initiative through working closely with the CBDD and SCORP IT to check the possibility of hosting the first GoSCORP within our NMO, also planning to: Contact the EMR NORPs of the NMOs who have previous experiences with hosting GoSCORP Before.

Prepare the proposal and the desired agenda.

Make sure that we have at the end of this term new Human Rights Trainers within our NMO which are essential for GoSCORP program through hosting TNHRT workshop during the next SRT and/or through encouraging our SCORPions to attend this workshop in other NMOs then we will have all the requirements for hosting this exchange program in the next terms.

EXTERNAL WORK Review and evaluate the work done in The previous term and the information gained from the handover process of the previous NORP to identify the current stakeholders that are approachable for SCORP events and seek new potential stakeholders.

For this term and after the pandemic, It becomes so essential to give a priority for seeking new sponsorships and partnerships for SCORP big activities such as Majeena and SCORP Winter therefore I’m planning to work with the VPE for sustaining the current sponsorship (MISWAG) and looking for new sponsorships.

Working in collaboration with the VPE and the national team on planning for new activities and campaigns in collaboration with other NGOs that are interested in the Human Rights and Peace issues.
