The
COLLABORATIONS
Firmwide Material Health Group has a monthly call and there tend to be a few questions regarding library situations. Hence, in Dec 2019 we formed a Firmwide group for library managers and helpers. Currently on a bi-monthly community call status. Goal: consistency across all offices with material health protocol, organization, sample returns, shared practices, etc. Tackle: managing a Mindful Materials format library and material vetting.

The Firmwide Librarians Managers (FWLM) CORONAVIRUS 2020 • March - Cancelation notice to sales representatives • Convert to virtual presentations • Samples - utilize Material Bank • Share notices of manufacturers delays/closures • Share webinar postings • Return To Studio library protocols • Looking forward 2021

Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) 1976 The nation’s primary chemicals management law • Mandatory requirement for EPA to evaluate existing chemicals with clear and enforceable deadlines. • Risk-based chemical assessments. • Increased public transparency for chemical information. • Consistent source of funding for EPA to carry out the responsibilities under the new law
Provides EPA with authority to require reporting, record-keeping and testing requirements, and restrictions relating to chemical substances and/or mixtures. Certain substances are generally excluded from TSCA, including, among others, food, drugs, cosmetics and pesticides.

“We believe that is our responsibility to apply the precautionary principle when selecting and specifying products and materials. We need to make our selection choices based upon the best scientific advice and knowledge available with the understanding that we live in a world without scientific uncertainty.”
The Wingspread Conference on the Precautionary Principle Concerned by the Science and Environmental Health Network, 1998

Perkins and Will believes that products that are harmful to humans, animals, and the environment should not be used in our projects The substances listed on our Transparency website all have been classified by multiple regulatory entities as being detrimental to the health of humans and the environment.

GreenWashing "Eco-friendly," "organic," "natural" and "green" are just some examples of the widely used labels that can be misleading to consumers. If you're ready to slap some grass on your logo, be transparent with customers about your company's practices and have information readily available to back it up.

Greenwashing is the practice of making an unsubstantiated or misleading claim about the environmental benefits of a product, service, technology or company practice. Greenwashing can make a company appear to be more environmentally friendly than it really is.

Greenwashing has changed over the last 20 years, but it's certainly still around. As the world increasingly embraces the pursuit of greener practices, corporate actors face an influx of litigation surrounding misleading environmental claims.
