THE MOODY MOON

My design intent was to create a modernized architecture that will standout but also act as a superb structure for the community. This design will enable the community to come together, live, work and play in harmony. Further this structure will minimize the impact upon the environment. My concept and design thinking were based around a brutalist design, to take the characteristics of raw materials and unusual shapes to create a modern twist.

The design will promote a sense of place and community by providing many opportunities to create and interact with the spaces from within and outside of the community .

This building encourages technological advancement, but aslo keeping in touch with historical backround and surroundings.

The building aims to symbolise a modern but also minimalist theme with its from and shape.

Connections between spaces and understanding how the building flowed was a very important factor in my design proccess. Once I figured out the building spaces, I focused on the size of my spaces, and how they flow with each other.

Here is where i began my journey to create a building that can bring the comminity toegther vissualy and spiritually. I aimed to do this by creating multipule diagrams and experimenting with the spaces.

this model SHOWcases the raw materials, unusual roof shape and the relation with the design spaces and how they interact with each other.

My design intent was to CREATE a building that will bring the community together with its remarkable architecture but to also be appropriate for the working people and permanent residence. this design will enable the public to connect with no discordance with one another and to create a safe haven for all.

the Tarazed building is the main recreational area of the site. i have carried through the organic shapes into the tarazed building and included a circular stage in the lecture spaces to create a less impactful construction design.

ALSHAIN HUTS FLOOR PLAN

I have carefully considered the layout so the view of swan bay is obtained and the environment is complimented by the HUTS. the wadawurrung symbol has been highlighted in the landscaping for the yarning circle. the shape of the HUTS HAVE been SPREADED around THE SITE. THE shapes OF THE HUTS SYMBOLIZES THE swans WINGS AND THE DIFFERENT SIZES ARE SMALLER SWANS TRAVELING IN A GROUP.

PASSIVE DESIGN STRATEGIES

the eaves are a minumem length of 1m as a passive design strategy for the north side of the building and huts both create a connection to the vfa building and shade the windows and allow the building to regulate its temperature effectively. Night purging is a method used in construction that allows a room within a building or a whole building itself to be pre-cooled during the night, allowing the area to remain cool during the following day. The second facade was made up of locally sourced logs and blocks out noise from the busy main roads near the site’s location Queenscliff is in an area that is affected by mainly South Easterly winds, so to combat the effects of these winds, trees were placed along the South of the building. Triple glazed windows and trees and façade were also used to block out noise

CONCLUSION

In MY journey, i decided to create a design that not just blends with the surroundings but also appears to be hidden in the environment. by having one main building and smaller huts i get to achieve the design i wanted. i also wanted to incorporate a contrast of color and explore different types of materials that are both sustainable and have an aging affect that changes over time. my biggest gaol was to touch the earth lightly using materials and construction methods that have a minimal impact on the environment. have also considered the railway and created a design that
