Swimming provokes moments of nostalgia, memories of summertime and escapism. When we reminisce swimming in the open air we think of freedom, a place to float dive sink or swim through water. The lido evokes the felling of escapism from the everyday bustle of life within the busy city centre. A space to experience the weightlessness of water.

Custom House Quay Gardens is a meeting place, a space for reflection, and gathering in various social situations. The lido, cafe and exhibition space fill an otherwise disused area which rests beside the bandstand offering a breathing space from the city behind.

From above, the clear blue waters of the lido contrast against the grey water of the River Clyde beneath. Many people walk over the site and South Portland Street Suspension bridge, smelling chlorine in the air.

Changing Rooms are sensitive spaces, where one exposes their bare feet to tile, and where wet meets dry. Hidden beneath the surface of the lido, the changing rooms provide a safe space for those visiting the pool. Fast - Track changing suits those arriving on a regular basis, with less time to spare, whilst family changing offers a space to spend more time, adjusting before or after swimming in the lido.

The cafe is a gathering space for those visiting the lido, exhibition space or passing on the cycle path. The cafe provides a space to relax and to observe the surrounding movements, a space of reflection. Hiding from the city behind the cafe overlooks the waters of the Clyde River, yellow glass walls reflects sunlight into the space, imitating the feeling of summertime.
