• HISTORICAL BRIEF

Everyone who has ever visited, or lived in Port Said, is familiar with the Simon Arzt store on the waterfont. The store was, in its day, one of the world’s great department stores. Here the traveller could stock up on all his (or her) needs on the way to Africa, India and the Far East. The shop assistants, clad in white suits and red tabooshes, were on hand as soon as a ship docked, ready to sell the tourist everything he or she needed: solar topees, cosmetics, tropical clothing. There was also a hairdresser’s, photograph studio, pharmacy and florist. It even had its own post office. The store never closed its doors, as long as a liner lay at anchor in the harbour at Port Said.

The current Simon Arzt building on the waterfront opened in 1924. It was planned as a rectangular hall, with interior balconies in two floors. The ceiling was made of glass and provided natural light. Its street façade measures about 40 metres with a total area of 1984m2. This building is a typical example of the European styles that were common in the larger cities along the Mediterranean at this time and is one of the most impressive structures in Port Said, demonstrating its international contacts and architects who contributed to the unique blend of architectural styles in the city. It had a sister building in Naples

Documentation conclusions were made after inspecting the output data and building a BIM model. The total ground floor area is approximately 1,880 m2. The building was constructed with its main axis slanted at a 33 Degree to the north direction.

• Reviving the religious, educational and societal function of places of worship By establishing a community unit that targets the contemporary interests of society with different age groups

• The unit must be present in every large urban space as one of the determinants of urban planning. As a kind of distribution of services to the community, one of the foundations of urban justice

• And control of the human psychological feeling from the gradation of squares, pathes , the difference in scale, proportions , enclouser and visual Point to make a great user experience

DESIGN

Mosque Concept

• The design of the mosque is based on the two ideas of spatial and optical gradient.

• Where the spaces begin with a relatively small scale and the intensity of high light, and by passing through the transitional spaces, the scale of the void increases and the intensity of lighting gradually decreases until we reach the main prayer square, which is the largest in the scale

• And the consequence of the low temperature and lighting rates. This achieves the principles of designing sacred spaces that depend on creating an appropriate environment for individuals to reach a degree of psychological clarity and reverence.

• The design concept depends on preserving the architectural heritage in Port Said and on the urban morphology and directing the spaces and squares inside as it was in the old architecture in Port Said

• Due to the smallness of the area, the land was used with a building area of %100 and to preserve the old architectural identity in Port Said

• And converting the existing street between the two areas of the land into a pedestrian street separating the cultural center from the entertainment center and serving it with the spaces overlooking it, whether it is from the commercial or cultural center

DESIGN

• Mivida Boulevard Residence’s 6 parcels modelling with (Emaar Misr / 5DVR) Project requirements

• Remodeling 6 Parcels of the compound in a light way for use in the virtual reality file of the compound at Emaar Misr’s main headquarters for presentation to customers and clarifying the idea

• The model was prepared using the 2d Excutive drawings
